The very unique way of Kuschnerova to play Bach. Her style can be reconized immediatly ! I spent a very good time listening to her ! Sometimes i wonder wether it is Bach or not but it's amazing by the way ! :-)
@kristallon100 Bach left a great freedom of interpretation to performers by minimising score markings. Scholars can argue which interpretations are authentic Bach according to historical practices (what about Gould?) but I think Kuschnerova's Bach goes along the central line. These are definitely not ideocyncratic performances.
I have to say i like the style "Kuschnerova", but i can undertand it could be irritating for others. It seems to me that Kuschnerova gives her best in fuges rather than in preludes.
A really exciting performance. Tremendous sense of controlled forward momentum throughout. I just went to Ms. Kuschnerova's website and ordered her all-Bach CD. I urge her to consider recording a complete Bach cycle -- perhaps the 6 Partitas, or the English Suites? The current catalogue is excellent, of course, but in my opinion EK's temperament offers a breed of Bach not often heard.
This live CD received a Rosette in the Penguin Guide. What Elena could record from Bach is, before all, the WTC. She had it in her repertoire at the time of graduating from the Moscow Central Music School and she offered to play and P&F from WTC-1 at the jury's choice at the final exam. So now she could record WTC-1 within a short time, and also WTC-2 after some preparation. But such a big project requires a sponsor. Just now she recorded Chopin's piano concerti, this will be her next CD.
I really love her performance. When I listened to it first time, I didn't really liked it, but when I listened to It again I really loved it, especially the fugue. Now I really want to hear it again - really :)
quadrolexus, if you listen to different performances of this toccata on youtube several times, you will be able to judge, at least tentatively. But if you say you liked the piece, this means that the performance was persuasive enough.
An excellent performance, indeed. Very "Russsian" I mean - vital, vigorous and full of "endless power" - to be found in Russia only, heard in Stravinsky', Korsakov and Othres compositions. Notice, though it's e-moll - it sounds "major" . Fantastic "mix" - of Bach's "joy with scales" and Elena's Russian Vitality.
RUSSIAN POWER.

I mean "any P&F".

Best performance, with noblesse, some clever legatos, polyphonic, just brillant and mouving.

I'm a total ignorant in classical music so I can't judge about the performance.
All I can say is that this piece (I'm not sure it's the right word) is beautiful.
It is the center of the entire french movie "De battre mon coeur s'est arreté".
