In response to the question, "Why don't more people like Harry?", I honestly have never heard any DW fan say they disliked Harry. I think that when most people view Season 12, the great team of Sarah, Harry & Dr#4 really stands out as the best TARDIS trio ever. Harry just naturally gets overlooked because the Dr#4/Sarah relationship is primary. In Season 12, the concerned Dr asks Harry several times "Where's Sarah?".
In many post-Season 12 stories, Sarah/Dr works much better than a trio.
As Season 12 closed, Philip Hinchcliffe wanted Harry written out in Terror of the Zygons. Robert Holmes objected, thinking Harry was a very good companion to Sarah and foil to the Dr. In later years, Hinchcliffe has admitted that Robert Holmes was probably right.
TOTZ remains one of my all-time top DW stories. But it is my saddest favorite, as it is the final full appearance of the Pertwee-era UNIT family of the Brig, Benton & Company.
Sarah, Harry and Dr#4 remain the best TARDIS trio ever in DW, as Sladen/Marter/Baker clicked remarkably well.
That being said, from ROBOT on, it is clear the Baker/Sladen click is primary. Imagine Harry in place of Sarah with D#4 in PYRAMIDS OF MARS. The story would lose much of its charm minus the complementary male/female nature of the Dr/Sarah relationship. Harry in danger would concern Dr#4; Sarah in danger would threaten Dr#4, as she is an integral part of his life.
@johnandhisdog I think people aren't as fond of Harry because he was teamed up with a very popular Doctor. Another reason is some think he was miscast in regard to the fourth, even though he was cast before Tom was.
I love Harry and think that he, Sarah Jane and the Fourth really worked well together. I wish that they'd done more stories than they did.
@jadewarlock I realise what your point, is but we cannot rewrite history and also I cannot see Harry in stories like Pyramids of Mars, Planet of evil, Brain of Morbius or even Masque of Mandragora either.
@rojblake82 There are some episodes I can see the same thing - though Pyramids might've had aspects that'd worked, or in Masque he could've been the one hypnotized to kill the Doctor (poor Sarah had that happen a couple of times). I think if he couldn't have been there longer, he made a couple of more guest appearances than he did. Especially now since Ian Marter has sadly passed away. Would've loved to have seen one story with both Harry and Sarah one more time before either passed. :(

TOTZ is a very good story for UNIT though.
