  • GBA? Looks like DS...

  • I wish pokemon couldve looked like this.

  • Regardless of the argument, this is still impressive for the Gameboy Advance. However, we do sometimes forget that the GBA was in fact a 32bit handheld system.

  • I played the finalized game. The graphics have been heavily downgraded and easily recognizable as Mode 7 programming.

  • I was so excited for this when I was little.

  • this was more a tech demo than a game

  • Whoa! Beautiful graphics for gameboy advance!

  • best intro ever! :D butt it could use sum sounds

  • I have this game, it's pretty fun and challenging. Good thing the original intro was scrapped though, the GBA would have crashed. This looks mor elike DS graphics.

  • god..... rare must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas.....

  • Damn, Rare really knew how to make good looking games on limited systems back then.

  • If it was possible to do this, why did they made it with that mode 7 bullcrap?

  • damn I was a retard back then.

  • They should have made a whole Banjo Kazooie game like this so that way it would be "real" 3D instead of an top scroller.

  • I would have SO preferred this, instead of average Mode7 graphics

  • GBA:Maximum Graphics

    Playstation*laughs*

  • @waddlerobloxxxx The GBA was the size of a Plastation's controller. I'm pretty sure the N64 did a good job laughing right back.

  • @waddlerobloxxxx The GBA is a handheld that was meant for 2d games. Not the Playstation. You can't compare those consoles together >_>

  • @ChampionRevilo Thesse what you are watching in the video are called sprites, not POLYGONS, if it was 3D then it would have polygons, these are just sprites!

  • @eddypikachu

To be more specific, they're called voxels. The level is just one big image map, with a height values assigned to every pixel. Voxels = volumetric pixels.

There were a few games released on the GBA that did use voxel engines, but it seems Rare ultmately decided against it, because of the performance loss. :-/

  • @Podings Huh, you learn something new everyday ^_^

  • THQ made a Banjo game for the GBA!? How comes I've never heard of it before? I would've bought it right away even if it's a racing game and that Rare didn't make it. It can't be worse than B-K Nuts and Bolts!

  • @ChampionRevilo They made an actual platformer as well Grunty's Revenge.

  • @StephenAlexWalker Yea, I know now. I even beat it xD

  • This is what Banjo Kazooie would look like on PS1. All pixely and have a poor draw distance.

  • banjo pilot was an average game, but in this beta it looks really much better than the real game.

  • mmm bad graphics---

  • how did this engine actually work?

or is that a company secret?

  • let me guess, all of this was cut because it put too much stress on the GBA's processor and it kept lagging, yes?

  • @MizoxNG

It's pretty obvious they couldn't do this with the GBA, it would turn into goop after an hour of this. Of course, they did eventually manage to do this on the DS, minus Banjo and Conker.

  • obviously filmed with an emulator. any particular reason youre keeping this rom to yourself?

  • i find it very hard to believe they could push those kinds of graphics out of the gba..

  • well actually some gba games look like this.

  • @brapp3470

What Games? The GBA has nearly the same power as the snes, so it can do only flat 3d grounds like in super mario kart or proparbly some cube-shaped levels like in doom, what I doubt.

I dont think the GBA was able to render this.

  • @JFGermann The GBA was a 32 bit machine and the SNES was 16 bit. Do the research,

  • @sonikku956

oh you'r right, you'r never old enough to learn sth new

  • @JFGermann The GBA has more power than the SNES, not music wise, but graphic wise is way better then the Snes

  • @Spanky5758

    This is better than original

  • @walecs2 You're so damn right.

  • looks like diddy kong racing

  • @randomdude768 Ironically, this game was another Diddy Kong racing game called "Diddy Kong Pilot", but Banjo-Kazooie characters came in.

  • hey how do you record this video what program do you use?

  • wat do you mean unrelised

  • in the unreleased version you can fly up and down as well in a full 3d environment in the final one there's just left and right

  • Is there a ROM out there of this game in any form?

  • For Vba? Just look for GBA roms and search it

  • Press start >.>

  • no they dont

  • looks like voxels. pretty impressive

  • yes it is voxels

  • Wow, this is better than the final game gameplay...

  • did u say this game was unrealeased???? well this game is real!!!!

  • He said unrealesed beta fag

  • c the date "25 / 11 / 06 .

  • THQ SUX

  • too bad they didn't stick with "diddy kong pilot"

  • Great! Is best of the really version!

  • shame the banjo pilot tracks werent like this...

  • Whoa, badass opening. Looks like it would have stressed the GBA's limits.

  • the point of the video is that its a beta INTRO not beta game

compare this to the old intro and they are way different

  • BANJO-PILOT DS PLEEEEASE!!!

  • Too bad the game probably would have cost like $80 if they made it in full 3D...

  • No gameplay footage? :P

Also, to the rest of the commentors: voxels was nothing new for the GBA. A number of pseudo-3D games used voxels. The GBA port of Smuggler's Run, ATV Fury or whatever... a couple of other games that slip my mind.

  • I can't remember if it used voxels for its 3d or something else, but the GBA port of Asterix and Obelix XXL played like an early PS1 platformer

  • No, Banjo Pilot used Voxels. I remember earlier previews mentioning it was indeed that specific effect. Asterix used something else, I believe.

  • No I was talking about Asterix, I know BP used voxels.

  • Ah. Well, you can tell Asterix doesn't use voxels because it has Z-buffering issues, and you only get those if you're using real polygons.

  • Ok. :( I'm sorry that I'm so late on that commission you requested!

  • oh my the asshole already came

  • You know it's only 90% of the Sonic fanbase does that shit, so not ALL Sonic fans like to draw/watch Sonic porn.

  • All sonic fans are furries!

  • Woah... That could be done in a Gameboy Advance?

    WOW..

  • This could of taken a lot of data!

  • zomg sns

  • Shows what the GBA is capable of doing. It was most likely changed because it would have been too laggy.

  • Wow, for the GBA, this looks pretty damn good, better than Mode 7 IMO. They should've elaborated on this engine more, before the DS came out.

  • i allway,s was hoping that nintendo would change their mind to admid that 3d is possible on the gba,and i finaly tout that atleast 1 nintendo/rare will have a 3d engine.

but again no nintendo/rare game have ever reached a 3d engine to justifie the 3d engine, dammed wtf!!!!!!!!

  • THIS GAME WAS RELEASED IN UK

  • Oh really?

  • suck mode 7 engine, i love the 3d foxel engine, and i want the beta version richtnow!!!

vrally3 on the gba proved that 3d is awesome, and the gba dit,nt deserved a fast dead,it deserved more 3d games relying on this beloved foxel engine offcourse!!!

  • Why couldn't this have been in the final game? WHY?!?!?

  • first this game has to be could diddykong pilot with mode 7 tracks.

but dou the take over of rare from microsoft, diddy has to be removed and a new name was given, called banjo pilot.

this game should had been supposedly improved with 3d levels using the foxel engine, but it may had been concidered as unriliable such 3d on a gba,so they,ve suicided to put back those mode 7 tracks and they even scrapped the sensor,no wonder so much delaying.

  • wow 3d effects

  • Fantastic Video, but... in my Banjo Pilot game there is a different intro!

    ???

  • it is different, walec, because this is the bete version of the intro, beta meaning the version before the game was released to the public.

  • Hard to believe that this is GBA quality. Oh, why didn't Rare release this instead?

  • Banjo-Pilot DS FTW!!

  • So let me get this straight. They scrapped this amazing looking, N64-quality game, for the pre-rendered mehness that was the released Banjo-Pilot?

  • zmfg

  • Woo. Great tech demo, at least... high-quality voxel rendering with LOD and palette animation on the GBA. It's enough to make a geek drool.

  • I doubt you'd be willing to say where this came from, right? ;)

  • That would've been cool on the DS with the 3D graphics. Banjo-Pilot was ok it just didn't have that cool track look.

  • Even you know I thought klungo's head in this game looked like a dinosaur I want more banjo pilot videos.

I like it better than GR.

My siter wonders about if they could make banjo-kart.

And I'm thinking about banjo hovercraft.

  • Wow, this looks a lot better than the final product. The final product looks boring.

  • Uh... Banjo Pilot IS a game already..

  • the reason the 3-D look was dropped was because having more than 2 racers on the track would make the game lag like mad. Sad, the final product felt uninspired.

  • It's a shame they didn't make this on DS, would have probably had a lot more potential, depth and beauty to it. Oh and don't forget the music!

  • It would've been nice if the races did have a 3D feel, but then the framerate would've been too slow for my tastes.

  • Sweet first comment first view,, nice job finding this
