@Racecarlock yeah, it is kinda real, depending on the guitar you use. Even the MC Mustang Midi-guitar is much more raal than the old toy guitars, even though it uses buttons instead of frets and only 6 shortened strings. Point is, you play real licks and real chords...
Nice, I'm not the only one who plays without chord fingering. I like being able to interpret it visually. Having the fret numbers on every note is too much info to process.
Wow that was good and I am saying that in truth not a lot of ppl can't play at all. I am going to try and get a pro guitar soon so if you could subscribe and give me some advice.
@joeperryfan95 yeah that's a very valid point you stated
But in my opinion I think it was more probably for the people that would love to play guitar but might not have enough room or money, plus it's like getting guitar lessons for free
Still I think your right about the " just buy a real guitar " bit
What the hell, man?? The Pro Guitar feature in thiis game is a $60 version of Guitar Pro. I use Tuxguitar for free, and I could just download any song I want, and I could just tab out my own, too. =P
I'm not trying to diss RB (or GH), but its a game, and it should have just stayed seperate from actually incorporating learning real instruments. IMO, I think its a bit cheesy, and if the buyer actually wanted to learn, they could have bought their own guitar.
It's noot hard. Look on the left hand side at the chord names. It's just the chords E5, A5 and B5 + the lick & solo. In some of my other videos you can see my hand movement.
There is one special guitar by fender that you can use. Its a solid beginners e guitar with special sensors called "Squier Stratocaster Guitar and Controller". Depending on where you live its between 250 and 330 bucks plus you need a mad catz midi pro adapter fitting your console - another 30 to 40 bucks. The other 2 alternatives are MIDI-Guitars and "not so real" though they follow the same mechanics.
That is about how it werks. The numbers tell you the frets and the bard the numbers lay on show which string ist used- It is a lot like tabs with a different perspective.
Only one certain electric guitar will work. A special edition of the Squier Stratocaster. Look up "Squier Stratocaster Guitar and Controller" at some online stores fpr musical instruments (like thomann in europe) or look at Best Buy if you are in the US. The game needs sensors in the neck of the guitar to read and analyse your finger positions.
Psst: if you are going to respond to my comment, leave it there please. :)
Were I a rock band charter, and wanted to make an easy Expert, i would have had the low octave lick the way it is there for the HARD chart, and properly charted it for expert. (with the first two notes on the a and the other 3 on the e string)
I know the real reason the high version was left out is because you can't BEND on the controller, but that's no reason to chart the low version wrong on pro expert. :)
Sorry, you're wrong. The studio recording has 2 guitars playing, one in a higher octave and one in a lower. Since this is a song for beginners, they chose to chart the lower octave, since it is easier to do. And you can play it all on a real guitar and it will still sound right. So stop assuming things, dude.
It is very close. Not 100% but close enough to learn a whole lot of stuff and take it to another guitar. You can learn how to play a lot of songs with this game.
i think chord numbering should be turned off once you remember the chord name, because there's a chord name next to it, and the index only number actually really helps u locate where the chord should be played, this simplifies the chord systems like crazy! i love it!
hey also, how do you get your vids to show up on the search?? i hardly get any views and I've got 20+ expert pro guitar GOLD star runs, even full PRO band gold star runs and its like i dont exist and then i see vids posted by kids getting 2 stars on easy songs and they get 10,000 views, I have a FULL PRO BAND 5 gold star run of this song up and its only got like 80 views and i get gold on pro guitar, my buddies get gold on pro drums and pro key and vox all at once....wtf? how come no one sees us
Chop Suey hasn't got a pro update yet, but it is a very popular song, so it might happen one day. Lots of other songs are being updated these days, like and justice for all by metallica, some stuff by nirvana, Mötley Crue, Iron Maiden and so on...
@karaokefreak1 actually justice is the only one of those you mentioned that have recieved a pro upgrade, the other ones you named were in a "rumor" thread on the forums, now i see where they came from!! lolz Just posted a 5 star run of beast and the harlot on expert pro guitar on my page checkit out, got PRO FULL BAND 4 way gold star runs as well as a grip of solo pro guitar gold star runs!! check em out man, and keep up the good work!
No, absolutely wrong, don't tell people bullshit if you don't know. E5 is a short version of the chord E, consisting of the rootnote E and its fifth. Same with B5, its the rootnote B combined with its fifth only , to form a powerchord. All regular Powerchords have a 5 as appendix.
So E5 is E + B , strumming an open E string along with a B on the A string (which is 2nd Fret).
You play a B5 powerchord by holding 2nd Fret on the A-String (B) + 4th fret on the D String (Fis)
@xxmightysanxx It's the root, fifth, and octave of a chord. So E5 would be E-B-octave E, and B5 would be B-F#-octave B. It is what's commonly referred to as a Power Chord!
EA has nothing to do with that. EA just publishes. ANd no,m your old songs have no pro charts, but some of them might get an optional update. Most Queen Songs and some bon Jovi songs got a pro guitar update already
@emnaq3 but yes all songs on disk the game comes with do have pro modes for everything. DLC is getting good but only some DLC have pro guitar/bass upgrades....
The Mustang Guitar is a tiny little bit shrinked compared to the original Mustang, however, it's the same size as my ovation guitar, so it has "guitar size" -it is definetely bigger than all 5 button guitars. The Squier Stratocaster though - that is a real size Strat.
If you already play guitar, then this will make no problems. At start you'll struggle with the Tab notation, but very soon you will have learned to read it ad-hoc.
@mario1136 Hey is it possible to connect my personal guitars to the game with a special cable that is usb to instrument cable?It's cause I really do NOT want to buy a toy/pro guitar for this game hahaha you know?
Yes it is possible, but you have to spend some ching. A GK-3 attached to your guitar, plumbed into a VG-99 (or similar, the VG-99 is a bit expensive just for this), plumbed into a MIDI soundcard for you PC, that's running the game2midi app that one of the RB3 fans has written, will do the trick.
Using your own guitar is very complicated and about unaffordable - it's a lot of mumbo jumbo plaing around with Midi-Devices and your PC. BUT there is a real guitar (Stratocaster) coming soon, which has sensors in the neck to read out your finger position, just like the MIDI-Guitar (MC Mustang) does. I had the chance to test the Strat at gamescom and thiugh its a "cheap" guitar for 280 bucks, it really sounds and plays nicely. As of now I play the Mustang, which is acceptable :)
I do play guitar. I am no guitar master, that's for sure ;) which means that ROck band 3 has already tought me some useful things. When picking it up at first, you should start on "Easy" difficulty and progress slowly. Those ingame tutorials are really neat and can teach you a lot. So its a great learning assistance. BUT, though you can learn a lot of things with this game, a real gutar teacher will always be the better solution. Use RB3 as reahearsal tool and songbook instead.
No you cannot connect your own guitar. The MIDI Adapter allows only Keyboards and E-Drums. Normal guitars are missing an important part: Sensors in the neck + an additional MIDI-Protocoll. MIDI only works AFTER you played. but the game has to know your fingerset BEFORE you play, or else its too late to judge and to enable / disable the playback. There is a real Sratocaster with sensors coming soon, though.
as much as I would like to buy this game and use the pro guitar I dont think Ill be able to handle it....especially with no kind of experience on the guitar
Absolutely. When you turn on the modifier "Chord Numbering", you will see the full tab view. Just watch some of my newer Pro Guitar Videos, I use chord numbering there.
No sweat, dude. Still, the button thingy isn't as bad as youmight think. It's not perfect, but a pretty good mid-way for people who advance from the toy guitars... ;) It still teaches you a freaking lot. Still, I am saving up for the Squier. You can't get more real than real :D.
play pro guitar and you won't even have th time for caring about that. Who gives a sh.. about graphics in music games as long as they are quite ok. I think guitar hero has the better engine for BG graphics, but I couldn't care less about something like that in a music game. Rock Bands graphics aren't THAT bad either....
No you don't save money with a normal guitar at all, because proper music lessons cost you like 300 Euro a month. Rock Band 3 costs you not even 300 Euro once in a lifetime. You won't learn guitar and new songs just from buying a guitar, and you don't learn technique tab by looking at it. So, sorry to destroy your illusions, but you're absolutely wrong. Sure, having a "real gutar" is the best thing you can do anyway. But only if you have one who teaches you how to play.
My illusions? Ok let me try this again... I AM SELF TAUGHT. Go on the internet look at a few videos. You don't need a teacher it's just for lazy people. You can buy a guitar for roughly £70-£90 acoustic or electric. And learn like that. Ive seena few guitar+amp bundles for £110.
Great, super brain,. I am selftought too, And where did it get me? To a lot of wrong stuff that learned and to a point where I couldn't go on by myself. Congrats (really) if you are a successful autodidact, but heck, don't expect everyone to be able to do so. It is a hell of work and less fun than learning with rock band 3... that is my experience after years of learning myself guitar. And YES , sure you should practice that all on a REAL Guitar to make it worthwhile.
Sorry dude, seem like you have no idea what you are talking about. E5 does not mean E on 5th string. E5 is the chord E5, which is a shortend version of the E-Chord (consosting of the root note and its fifth). Please stop telling people BS if you don't really know.
BTW my wife has no musical knowledge and plays Pro Bass on easy, so EVERYONE can play Pro as long as you take your time to learn how to read the charts. The game has great tutorials that easily get you into the system.
YES!! i can now beat my friends cause they play rockband all the time with those 5 button controllers. let see them try with the new rockband guitar controllers. too bad i cant pickup my American Standard Strat and plug it into their ps3 :(
no you can't. Even if your guitar has midi , the pickup can only analyze what you played after you hit the strings. For the game as well as the tutorial part it is however very important that the game can analyze your fingering before you strum. There will be a real Statocaster coming in spring 2011 that has special sensors in the neck for that purpose. Anyway, you can use casual E-Drums or Keyboards with the game via a MadCatz Midi adapter, but not your "normal" guitar.
The powerchord E5 is a normal E powerchord :)

2) Real Squier Statocaster Guitar (with full strings and Sensors for the game) $279 + $39 for the needed Mad Catz MIDI Pro Adapter.

@mario1136 Hey is it possible to connect my personal guitars to the game with a special cable that is usb to instrument cable?It's cause I really do NOT want to buy a toy/pro guitar for this game hahaha you know?
DeadBloom10000 1 year ago
@DeadBloom10000

Just a shame that this one controller you need comes about 600- 700 Bucks...
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
@karaokefreak1 no it's $150.00 and u learn how to play guitar so it is worth it
zie959586 1 year ago
@karaokefreak1 Does it use an actual string guitar cause i play guitar 2 and want to get this
Killzone742 1 year ago
@Killzone742
As of now I play the Mustang, which is acceptable :)
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
@Killzone742 i would recommend you get this guitar especially if u play real guitar
zie959586 1 year ago
Do you play real guitar as well? If not, how hard is the game to pick up?
fatNstealthy 1 year ago
@fatNstealthy
Use RB3 as reahearsal tool and songbook instead.
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
do u use a pick or something?

looks hard bra i feel you
djspice201 1 year ago
@SPRTNGamingTV
There is a real Sratocaster with sensors coming soon, though.

as much as I would like to buy this game and use the pro guitar I dont think Ill be able to handle it....especially with no kind of experience on the guitar
bobbleheadfuckboy 1 year ago
I play a real guitar for about 4~5 years and I would still buy this if I had the money. What funnier way to learn new songs than playing video game!

which pro guitar do you use?
Musicalman519 1 year ago
So the numbers are the frets and then there are the strings. So it's kind of like reading tabs?
RIPmichaeljackson61 1 year ago
@RIPmichaeljackson61
Absolutely. When you turn on the modifier "Chord Numbering", you will see the full tab view. Just watch some of my newer Pro Guitar Videos, I use chord numbering there.
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
i have to say man you play awesome ;) and rock band 3 is the best music game of the year :)

@pyschosquid
No sweat, dude. Still, the button thingy isn't as bad as youmight think. It's not perfect, but a pretty good mid-way for people who advance from the toy guitars... ;) It still teaches you a freaking lot. Still, I am saving up for the Squier. You can't get more real than real :D.
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
@pyschosquid Just thought id throw this at you, this is real guitar, playing the song. should look up the RB3 pro Squire strat.......

Rock band's graphics looks fake and gay...
xD I'm not trolling, just givin my oppinion!
gcanel 1 year ago
@gcanel
play pro guitar and you won't even have th time for caring about that. Who gives a sh.. about graphics in music games as long as they are quite ok. I think guitar hero has the better engine for BG graphics, but I couldn't care less about something like that in a music game. Rock Bands graphics aren't THAT bad either....

@karaokefreak1 yeah, thats what I wanted to read!

does anyone know if you'll ever have to replace the strings on the Pro guitars like u would a normal guitar?

looks complicated
IronXXXMaiden1 1 year ago
@Andrejispanickin
But only if you have one who teaches you how to play.
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
@karaokefreak1
Andrejispanickin 1 year ago
@Andrejispanickin
And YES , sure you should practice that all on a REAL Guitar to make it worthwhile.

i kno this song on real guitar a nd 4 piece kit watching this gives guitarist a bad name lol
VampiresBiteHard666 1 year ago
@BSFSupaShot6
The game has great tutorials that easily get you into the system.
karaokefreak1 1 year ago
how can you play it? O.o E5 means on the fifth string?
AdiiiiiSGH 1 year ago
@AdiiiiiSGH
No, it doesn't. it indicates the chord E5, which will be explained to you in the tutorials.

how the hell do you do that :0 i want to get the game i just dont know if i coul do this

@pyschosquid
as i understand you can connect your real guitar to rock band 3 and this a way to learn it :P.
but its possible that i miss understood
ShooterCinema 1 year ago
@ShooterCinema
no you can't.
