When "Why" came out in the early 60's, Tony Sheridan was a well-known singer and a recognized headliner in Hamburg, Germany. The Fab-Four were still paying their dues, so to speak, when record exec Bert Kaempfert paired Tony with the Beatles. But by 1964 times changed when the Beatles fame surpassed Tony Sheridan's. A great song from the early days, nevertheless.
Beatles’ Hot 15 Chart #s on Billboard April 11, 1964 1. Can’t Buy Me Love 2. Twist & Shout 4. She Loves You 7. I Want To Hold Your Hand 9. Please Please Me 14. …Want to Know a Secret 38. …Saw Her Standing There 48. You Can’t Do That 50. All My Loving 52. From Me To You 61. Thank You Girl 74. There’s A Place 78. Roll Over Beethoven 81. Love Me Do 131. Why ___________________ Billboard Hot 100, 1964.
The reason why I put that other post there, is to point out that, "Why" was, "Bubbling Under The Hot 100," in Billboard Magazine on April 11 1964. But all those other Beatle songs were on the same chart.
Sheridan had a very Roy Orbison-esque voice. Really nice, though dated, unlike those Beatle voices which will last across the universe for all of time.
Tony Sheridan, this was made when they met him in Hamburg in 1960 and (ringo was not drummmer, pete best was) after having a 2 day session with him, I wonder what else is out there?? hehe
Is it sad that I can tell it's Joj's guitar??

If you listen closely you will hear the fab four honing out their back-up vocals and musicianship. This how it's done.

Sounds a whole lot like Elvis, who had a strong influence on the early Beatles.

What's funny, when this song first came out, it was Tony Sheridan with the Beatles, but now it's The Beatles with Tony Sheridan. :)
