Absolutely beautiful. They certainly could write, and perform, superb music during the 17th and 18th centuries. Purcell died quite young, too. I wonder what else he would have written had he lived longer.
@Coker17 Devalue the Black Metal without knowing is a much bigger. I listened to Bach before my one year, and I can assure you that Black Metal is the only kind now able to compete with the classic, just find the right band.
@Coker17 I like black metal, but classical pieces borrowed for the likes of it can often be a disappoinment. I prefer the two as separate genres or with influence, not direct plagiarism or hybridization.
Why do you people invariably associate this great music with Alex DeLarge and his droogs? Do you do the same when you hear Beethoven's or Rossini's music? Why only Purcell? I mean no disrespect, I'm just trying to understand...
There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie and Dim. and we sat in the Kororva milk bar trying to make up our resudox what to do with the evening. The Korova Milk bar sold milk plus, milk plus villicet, or synthemesc drencrumb, wich was what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultraviolence.
This was not from Conker or Clockwork Orange. It is a funeral march for a dead queen. Those modern day intellectual properties were not the reason for this brilliant song's composition. Now that that is out of the way, please enjoy Henry Purcell's 350+ year old masterpiece.
@jamestheepicfan111 Itz Derived From An Old English Expression "Queer As A Clockwork Orange", My Oppinion After Reading The Book And Seeing The Film Is It Is An Expression Of Robotosized Humanity!!
@jamestheepicfan111 What is a clockwork orange?☺Well, quite obviously it's an orange you can use as a clockwork. Personally for work I always wear an ordinary clockwork tomato, which I change for my nice little clockwork grapefruit in the weekends, I have it since childhood. Some of my more trendy friends though prefer a clockwork melon, and, you won't believe this, but I even know some guy who wants nothing else but his clockwork bananas. Ridiculous! Nobody wears those anymore!
EVERYONE STOP BEING PRETENTIOUS ABOUT YOUR LIKE OR DISLIKE OF A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. WHETHER YOU LIKE THE MOVIE OR NOT IS UP TO YOU BUT DON'T BE AN ELITIST ABOUT IT PLEASE.
I want to thank you again, "protestant7", for this excellent video. I have recommended it to others, particularly to people responding to "A Clockwork Orange" video. Keep up the good work.
The Baroque Brass of London do a magnificent job of presenting this superb work of Purcell. Fine video. This would be the best march for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth (although, love may she live!), since it is music fit for a queen. Sadly, it became his own funeral march the very same year at 35 years of age.
@andrewMLhero my first introduction to this piece was scanning MID files looking for a good funeral dirge... came across this and LOVED it... saw A Clockwork Orange many years later. This is, IMHO one of the most beautiful and sad pieces ever created. I love it... and will probably have it used at my funeral... followed by Elton John - I'm Still Standing (yes, I am twisted that way) :D
I wonder when people will finally realize that by the time some fact or meme becomes the highest rated comment, it's shit. That comment about "if you don't know of a Clockwork Orange you've been living under a rock" is a pretentious statement by some fuck who'd just discovered Stanley Kubrick a day before posting that comment.
There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. thanks for filming mainly the drum as we could better see scarcely played instrument walking in an obsucre alley. Great music, great instruments, total scenaristic and camera failure.
@N45HcH the only thing I can guess is, England (obviously) and by the looks of if it's a 16th century cloister so therefore an old monastery that has been turned into a house. As for where in England I don't have a clue. Somewhere nice by the looks of it and I would mind living there.
I find this rendition overly dramatic. And A Clockwork Orange overrated.
/metahipster mode
No seriously, great piece of music but way too dramatic as performed in this video. Too much dynamics ruin the temperate atmosphere it's supposed to portray.
@matthewjamal I see you got the gist of my comment, but the message I was trying to convey kind of eluded you. Most likely it's a matter of taste, but this rendition comes across as too theatrical. I enjoy the piece a lot more when it's played with more austerity. Calm and balanced. Not all over the place.
@llczk really?? hmm, yea i was just joking with ya. you are right it is a matter of opinion. i however just took it as normal...i mean... it's just a couple guys walking with instruments...like they did a sacrificial ritual. lol but yea cheers to each his/her own...

Re: the discussion about Queen Mary: Queen Mary I was called "Bloody Mary" because she killed Protestants, but Henry VIII who killed Catholics and Protestants was not called Bloody. Queen Elizabeth who killed more Catholics than Mary Protestants was not "Bloody". When Catholic James II was dethroned, his daughter became sovereign as Queen Mary II with her husband William (III) of Orange as co-sovereign, as they were Protestants. There was "bloody" killing for 150 years unfortunately.

There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie Boy and Dim. And we sat in the Korova Milk Bar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova Milk Bar sold milk plus - milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old Ultra-Violence.

Very powerfully played, and fewer flourishes than I've heard in some other performances; it sounds all the more sober for it. Excellent.

What a tremendous recording. Sounds phenomenal in my Etymotics. The drum builds to terrifying intensity.

@Lukecash12 Byrd and Farnaby are great as a Vivaldi, Haendel, Corelli?
ThySword777 11 months ago
@ThySword777 Yes, yes they are. What argument can you make against that?

Great work! I love baroque brass, they sound a lot "softer" than there contemporary counterparts.
(I tried to do my own version, but with much more limited means)

Re: the discussion about Queen Mary: Queen Mary I was called "Bloody Mary" because she killed Protestants, but Henry VIII who killed Catholics and Protestants was not called Bloody. Queen Elizabeth who killed more Catholics than Mary Protestants was not "Bloody". When Catholic James II was dethroned, his daughter became sovereign as Queen Mary II with her husband William (III) of Orange as co-sovereign, as they were Protestants. There was "bloody" killing for 150 years unfortunately.
