I doubt that even if one did understand what she's saying, that they're giving any secrets away, such as the recipe for the sizing used on the silk or the starch he has on his workbench. Just my thoughts.
Starch will make it crisp and easier to fold. I know nothing about the art but was fascinated and read somewhere why they often use starch. you spray the fabric before cutting and folding.
" dousing it with rice wine or starch " How does rice wine help? What does it do? So, it is silk and not paper! I watched these out of order and thought he was using tiny paper folded pieces! How well does this glue hold up? What if the finished piece got wet by accident, would the glue hold up? Would the dye run?
Did the person who offered to traslate ever do it? Thanks:)
Okay TY do u recall a grainy salt texture? Now I am not gonna try it with salt gonna make wheat paste instead. If that don't give me the finished dry result I want then I may have to move on to glue and water mixture or the stuff you can get at the hardware store.
I googled how to make rice paste and the site that came up had this video. I would like to know if there was an error and the recipe is supposed to have 1/4 cup SUGAR, not salt, I ask because I made it 2x and destroyed my blender, (my fault) the blender was old anyway. And each time I can feel what can only be, rice or salt. Looks like salt and the rice was blended well. I am gonna make it one or time at least and when I do I am gonna put sugar, not salt, and see what happens.
I can't translate, but I Can tell you what he's doing; First, he is dyeing his silk, next he dries it after dousing it with rice wine or starch ...next he cutes it into 5 by 5 (centimeter) squares
@LeefDamariel i would to see this in english as well..becasue i am enjoying the visuals and hearing the native tongue..but i do not understand it unfortunately :(
@notasoutherngirl i can translate it for you but it would take days for the whole five parts if there are some parts in particular you dowant to understand let me know and i will translate it
@lukkha1 - I would love the whole thing translated (like everyone else). I am a cultural anthropologist by study so i get all geeked out about other cultures and how they do things. I have watched these videos over and over again because of content, the implications of cultural inflections, the cinamatic beauty of it, ect. My japanese is just too rusty to keep up with it. It is kind of you to offer and if your bored please feel free to translate. But this would take a while as you said. : )

@willow6969696969 I doublt it's sugar. It's surely salt - the glue is salty in taste (I once tad to hold a glued petal in my mouth).
