  • what makes a car raddle and vibrate in idle. but when i press on the gas it smooths out agian. even if im moving 2 miles per hour, it still doesnt vibrate. only when im stoped the car shakes hard.

  • @princejaa I believe a engine balances itself better at higher rpm that why it vibrates at idle speed, just my theory.

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Both my 96 SL2 and my 96 SC2 vibrate at highway speeds. Once I am going 60+mph it vibrates...you can see the vibrations down both arms while holding the wheel...could this be a motor mount? Replaced upper motor mount on the SC2 about 1 yr or so ago, but didn't know to do that last bit at the end of your vid, and also didn't know there were brands I should avoid. That replacement cured the ROARING vibes I was getting, esp. during right turns. The SL2 I have had 6 mos...still getting acquainted :)

  • @lyricia1996 Sounds to me like your tires could be out of balance.

  • I mean she is a nice 68 stang but man she is costing me loads...... long after I've already restored almost the entire thing. Im normally one to ask about cars in my family but this one has me stumped!

  • Yeah man I wish it was either one of those. Ive had my wheels with the old tires balanced and with new tires. Rims aren't bent. Ive had the drive shaft balanced,I replaced the ball joints, upper control arm and lower control arms , trans rebuilt with new mount, harmonic balancer is rather new and ok, new shocks up front and rear. Man Im at a loss. The only things I can come up with is either the brakes (drum) are unbalanced (not out of round) or that engine mount resting against my headers

  • Could a broken mount make your car vibrate at speeds 50 and above? Ive exhausted all I can on the suspension and drive train.

  • @geebobwiz More likely a bent rim ,worn cupped tires or out of balanced tires.

  • What "generation" would a 2002 SC2 be?

  • @mrriden That would be the 3rd generation

  • Isn't there another engine mount? I think it's referred to as a 'dog-bone'. What about that?

  • @samuelbrainsample There are a total of four on the s-series two are of the dog bone type. One is under the crankshaft pulley the other is under the battery box.

  • My car vibrates pretty violently when in drive but only when stopped. It does it in reverse too, but not nearly as bad. Is this because of the motor mounts?

  • @Jaiexx Motor mounts or the engine is misfiring.

  • @Jaiexx top motor mount is bad on your car if it vibrates to much on idle in drive.

  • isn't your Saturn a 2nd gen?

  • @mgza2007 yes

  • the guy who sold me the car said I would need to replace a motor mount, as it vibrated while in reverse. Now, when I am at a stop light, my car moves around like crazy!!! Still sound like a motor mount???

  • Yup,sure does

  • Hi. There IS a space in my 1999 Saturn SW2, about the thickness of a pen, but I don't feel like anything is wrong really. But my dealer said it should be replaced. I shook it and the engine a little and it seemed sturdy. The dealer wants like 350.00 to fix it. Is it worth it if I am not having any noticeable symptoms? Also he said I need to replace the auto trans. motor mount , also for another 350 dollars. Help!

  • If you are not experiencing any abnormal vibration inside the car you have some time left on your mounts.

  • Thank you Rich!

  • Is there ANY disadvantage (knocking something loose in an older car's transmission, for example) of replacing the 1999's Trans Mount? does 350 sound high in price?

  • also, does this test work on a 1999 SW Saturn Wagon 1.9L?

  • thank you so much!!

  • Thanks My saturn is very quit and no more vibrations after new motor mount.. Thanks again!!

  • will this work on a single over head cam? And what happens if i can fi the whole pen in it?

  • yes,replace the mount

  • is that red stuff on the bolts loctite?

  • Thanks for the info. Good vids

  • thanks for all your saturn vids can you tell me what you think about mine ? I have a 98 sw2 with a vibration that loosens my crank pulley and after I tighten it it starts coming loose agin? any ideas?

  • One thought comes to mind.A pulley bent or running out of line would vibrate and possible loose the bolt.

  • Yeee Haaa! Saturn repairs made easy!

  • Why won't this test work for a 2nd generation mount?

  • The second generation style mount is totally different than the 1st and 2nt mount which are the same.
