Where did you download this from...I'm curious because my dad wrote the music for this series..Tony Russell is his name. I am currrently trying to get him featured on Wikipedia and uploading his music on utube my own channel
@hippyshirl Because you're like me in that respect. I can't go back to those peaceful sunny afternoons in the early 70s, and this was on TV, along with Fingerbobs, Andy Pandy and the Trumpton stuff.
Look how gentle & claming the television for children was in our day. It was wonderful & served a purpose. Today's offerings are all aggressive, fast & loud. I dread to think what today's kids are going to turn out like.
Even now when I hear this tune I feel so spellbound! I loved Parsley The Lion and The Herb Garden. But when Sage the Owl came on I would get a bit freaked, 1, by his appearance and 2, by the song and tune that would be played when he turned up!
I know he's a 'friendly lion' - but when I saw this in the late 60's/early 70's it scared me. Not sure why. I think it was the way he moved, and the voiceover - it all looked strange and scary.... I thought if I watched it now - all these years later - I would see how silly I was and that he really is a 'friendly lion'. No. He still scares me. :(
Can't add much more to comments already left; yes, that warm feeling and longing for days gone by, happy and carefree childhood etc. and to hell with the "Rose-Tinted Hindsight" crap - even my son (now 18 but remembers watching re-runs when he was about 3 or 4) agrees and envies what he's heard of our (forty-somethings') childhood!
Brings back a lovely warm feeling of my early childhood. Makes me wish I could turn back the clock - just for a while. My son is just 4 and he loves the herbs as much as I did. Funny to see it in colour though! This is from a time when our country really was 'Great Britain'!
I'm a very friendly lion called Parsley... I am always very glad to see you wave. But please don't shout or speak to me too harshly, because I'm not particularly brave... :)
Has this actually been on tv recently?? Because I haven't seen it since. Why are they stopping the classic shows?? Classics should NEVER and I repeat NEVER stop being shown!
Thnx so v v much 4 the upload. I've prob spent way 2 long watchin some of these clips but its the most contented I've felt in ages. Nostalgic, comforting and like a big hug from your Mam when u're ickle and feelin down. Can't thank u enough

Im Bay Leaf, Im the gardner, I work from early morn, sweeping up the garden and tidying the lawn. ... LOL .. I never even knew the herbs were actually herbs until years later. Just thought it freaky how most the spice rack was named after a kids programme.
I knew most of the herbs were actually herbs - Dil, Rosemary, Basil, Parsely etc, but what was that Indian one - Pushanar Bedhi (sp?) - to this day I've never heard of that!
I used to love this as a kid- and I'm 28 now. I had no idea this was around so long ago! its cool to see people of all different ages loving this. Thanks so much for posting :)
