• This bring's back so many memory's haha. Wor Parsley!! Legend

  • Little tune I feel quite tearful

  • It's so good to watch these old snows from childhood again but it's only when Parsley sings his

  • one of my fondest memories this :)

  • I've Just Remenbered This Song.

  • I miss herbs. They're good for playing the guitar with.

  • im naming my cat parsley.

  • i love parsley the lion :)

  • @Wilko96cp So Do I And That's Why I Always Remenber The Song He Sings.

  • Where did you download this from...I'm curious because my dad wrote the music for this series..Tony Russell is his name. I am currrently trying to get him featured on Wikipedia and uploading his music on utube my own channel

  • @TracyRussell100

Tell him he's a fuckin' genius!

If the purpose of being an artist is to touch, albeit briefly, another human being, he won and won big.

  • i remember i used to love this when i was ickle

  • why is this making me cry?

  • @hippyshirl Because you're like me in that respect. I can't go back to those peaceful sunny afternoons in the early 70s, and this was on TV, along with Fingerbobs, Andy Pandy and the Trumpton stuff.

  • this makes me want to cry,

this bring back my whole childhood,

i miss good childrens shows like this,

im a teen now, but i still i wish they would play old childrens shows again,

    i love them !

  • Look how gentle & claming the television for children was in our day. It was wonderful & served a purpose. Today's offerings are all aggressive, fast & loud. I dread to think what today's kids are going to turn out like.

  • Even now when I hear this tune I feel so spellbound! I loved Parsley The Lion and The Herb Garden. But when Sage the Owl came on I would get a bit freaked, 1, by his appearance and 2, by the song and tune that would be played when he turned up!

  • I know he's a 'friendly lion' - but when I saw this in the late 60's/early 70's it scared me. Not sure why. I think it was the way he moved, and the voiceover - it all looked strange and scary.... I thought if I watched it now - all these years later - I would see how silly I was and that he really is a 'friendly lion'. No. He still scares me. :(

  • Can't add much more to comments already left; yes, that warm feeling and longing for days gone by, happy and carefree childhood etc. and to hell with the "Rose-Tinted Hindsight" crap - even my son (now 18 but remembers watching re-runs when he was about 3 or 4) agrees and envies what he's heard of our (forty-somethings') childhood!

  • reminds me of debussy's 'sonata for flute and harp'

  • I love the old innocent cartoons nowdays it all just lazytown acid harsh shit

  • Brings back a lovely warm feeling of my early childhood. Makes me wish I could turn back the clock - just for a while. My son is just 4 and he loves the herbs as much as I did. Funny to see it in colour though! This is from a time when our country really was 'Great Britain'!

  • The way he nodded was very cute!

  • i <3 heart the very friendly lion called Parsley. the herbs was my fave tv show as a kid. as well a rosie and jim!

  • 1 of the best childrens programms made

  • I remember seeing a soft toy of Parsley when I was a child, but unfortunately it was only a display.

  • @Floobegusted You see the thing is me, my grandma and my mother went to a dollshouse emporium which also had a display of toys

  • i love him x x x

  • i luv parsley, also a dog called dill x

  • Totally brilliant.

  • Aww... sigh! good times...

  • I'm a very friendly lion called Parsley... I am always very glad to see you wave. But please don't shout or speak to me too harshly, because I'm not particularly brave... :)

  • cheers for typing that out for us there!

  • Has this actually been on tv recently?? Because I haven't seen it since. Why are they stopping the classic shows?? Classics should NEVER and I repeat NEVER stop being shown!

  • I'm from the 90s and my mum brought me up on this cartoon. I think it defined me. <3

  • @ohgeorgieee same only it was my grandma introduced me to the herbs

  • I've suddenly become 6 again.

  • Thnx so v v much 4 the upload. I've prob spent way 2 long watchin some of these clips but its the most contented I've felt in ages. Nostalgic, comforting and like a big hug from your Mam when u're ickle and feelin down. Can't thank u enough

  • my parents showed me this when i was little and i loved it. unfortunately it was on video so i cant watch it anymore. but it shows that even though im 16 now, and this was made in the late 60s, this sort of thing appealed to everyone :) parsley's such a sweetie

  • @retrodelicious Precisely the same thing for me, I just remembered this being showed to me on VHS as a small child. Nostalgia at its finest.

  • dont know if its because im stoned. but the theme song is a beautiful piece of music

  • brings it all back..oh happy days..Brian Cant is a legend!!!!

  • @gazzaphil ... I love The Herbs but Brian Cant didn't to the voice over, it was a fella with a big nose who was in an advert about 'Arkwright and his dancing dog'... I think it was a John Smiths ad...lol... :0)x

  • @wenglishsal The voice was Gordon Rollings. ...the dog's name was Tonto.

  • @mush1955 ... thanks for the imformation, I knew his face but had no idea what the actors name was... But it was a brilliant advert though... hee hee :0)x

  • oh shit this takes me back to when i was a baby lmao bless

  • maces me cry every time! thnx for the upload

  • @robbieC971 me 2, never wld think this'd get me like that but... brings childhood back

  • this brings back memories !

  • My kitten is named after him ^ ^

  • I adore Parsley....he was my favourite "herb" in the Herb Garden.

  • worlds cutest lion! xx

  • This reminds me of a guy at school who always sang this song. The whole school knew him as Parsley. Crazy kid....

  • if i ever get a lion im calling it Parsley.

  • No matter what the age, everyone loves the Herbs, they're timeless! PARSLEY FOR PRIME MINISTER!

  • Im Bay Leaf, Im the gardner, I work from early morn, sweeping up the garden and tidying the lawn. ... LOL .. I never even knew the herbs were actually herbs until years later. Just thought it freaky how most the spice rack was named after a kids programme.

  • that's funny.

  • I knew most of the herbs were actually herbs - Dil, Rosemary, Basil, Parsely etc, but what was that Indian one - Pushanar Bedhi (sp?) - to this day I've never heard of that!

  • @Marty1fatbstard Ive got to confess, Parsley used to scare the willies out of me: I used to hide behind the sofa, whenever The Herb Garden was on!

  • Aww, I used to love this show (:

  • this is the best .... my favourite ........thankyou so much for posting , ive not smiled so much in ages

  • God bless you! I'm 3 again. Wooohoooo!

  • this is brilliant thanks

  • That made me smile!! Thankyou

  • Aw man, I never thought I could tear up at something only 23 seconds long

  • I showed this to my mum and she started going all blurry eyed

  • Oh man such a short clip , but it still nearly brought me to tears. I love this.... Dill the dog is my favorite

  • thanks again , cool, for turning me onto something I CAN SHARE WITH MY KIDS!

    This is super sweet!

  • Oh, Man!! This is Super Cute!! Glad

I stumbled upon it!! Take Care!!

  • This is so sweet and poignant. I was born in 1990 and my mum in '58 so this is really her childhood but I always felt a great affection for it.

Would it kill them to repeat this old gold on Cbeebies? Not before they CGI'd it to death first, presumably.

btw, is that Jonathan Miller narrating?

  • It's actually Gordon Rollings.

  • Life was far better then......today's money grabbing , celebrity obsessed society is a poorer place .

  • i LOVE Parsley

He is the most friendly lion EVER!

*dreams of being best friends with parsley*

  • I used to love this as a kid- and I'm 28 now. I had no idea this was around so long ago! its cool to see people of all different ages loving this. Thanks so much for posting :)

  • OMG! I loved this show when I was a kid but never knew that it's wayyyyyy older than me :) Amazing show for kids.

  • Im almost 46 and remember this well when i was a young kid. why do I punish myself with all these old tv shows on here. makes me want to go back in time

  • Oh yes, Inagrump...I agree with you. If only there was a time machine. to go back to this time...when mum and dad were still alive and hearty, when a hot cup of tea and a biscuit was a treat, when global warming was something your gas heater did. Oh cherished times...come back, I miss you.

  • Same here.

  • Which of the above posters are you agreeing with?

  • inagrump

  • Makes me smile... Being 19, we used to have a video the Herbs. I used to love it

  • I used to watch this when I was far too old for it and I'd be watching it to this day if it was on. What a gem. I once won a student quiz tie-breaker with the answer "I'm a rather fat feathery owl called Sage". So it really was educational.

  • this is one of my best programs as a kid then and still is it brings back the good days. wen you come home form school the good days then as a kid.

  • Oh my!

Thnks so much for putting this up!

I used to watch this when i was a kid (1990's)

I didnt realise it was that old.

I used to love it! Parsley was my favorite character.

    Thanks again!

  • Well I never - Parsley had a green mane!

  • Blimy this brings back some memorys

Thankyou i enjoyed listening to that again it put a smile on my face

  • It's seems to be "old hat" to mention tears in ones eyes - but I have. Thank you.

  • You're not the only one mate. Takes me right back to our old living room, sitting in front of the fire with some jam toast, a mug of sweet tea and not a care in the world!

  • EPIC

  • this is my all time favourite kids tv show. i watched this religiously when i was a kid. Couldn't get better. tarragon the dragon ruled!

  • Soooo CUTE!

  • A wonderful sweet innocent children's show.

Watching this has brought out the childhood in me.I have some Herb's stories on dvd and video somewhere.

Now where did I put them?

  • For me too...that's why I put it here.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • I'm not someone given to outbursts of emotion, but seeing this again actually brought tears of joy to my eyes. Thank you so much for posting the clip.

  • <3

I remember this! Oh, it takes me back to those crazy days (when I was 4 and nothing else happened in my world)

  • Oh god, I'm 8 years old again!!

  • Yes...it's a time tripper, isn't it?

  • My mum used to really like watching this. I've only ever seen clips of it on YouTube and I'm really interested in watching a whole episode (because I'm sad). Why aren't children's TV shows like this anymore? Why not make a remake of this? I'm sure it could be great education about what can grow in your garden but in a fun way!

  • I know! Same with my mum, she brought it up on Youtube a few weeks ago and it's so cute :)

Even the little facial expressions and everything, awhh (:

    xx

  • because if they did do a remake it, they'd ruin it... have you seen what they did to 'bill and ben' or 'andy pandy'?

  • I used to watch that too

  • I remember seeing this when we got out first colour television. It was awesome and cannot be described to kids today. Everything used to be in black and white.

  • I used to watch this as a child in the early nineties. I preferred this, Bagpuss and Clangers to any of the crap tellytubby stuff. And I'm going to show this to my kids too :D

  • Just wonderful

  • why arent kids shows like this anymore? =(

  • because we'd get soooooooo bored. lol

  • I sing this frequently, haha...it makes me instantly happy. "I'm a very friendly lion called Parsley". I wish children's televsion today was of the same calibre.

  • cant stop listening to this song.

    amazing.

  • i'd like to give parsley a big hug :-)

  • This is beautiful. It brings back wonderful memories of the late 60's early 70's when I was growing up. Life & the world seemed so warm gentle & carefree then. These childrens programs are like a happy place to retreat to occasionally, from a harsh & uncaring modern world. Great to see you again Parsley!

  • @hiyadroogs could'nt agree with you more.. seeing parsley again after hunting him out her on youtube gave me a tear for the past when I was a little boy. :-) Yeah,if I ever get a friendly lion,I'm calling him parsley too

  • British cartoons at their best.

  • I have a Parsley the Lion on my dashboard in my car. I LOVE this show

    ♥

  • My children are going to grow up on these cartoons (when im much older of course, I'm only 13)I'm going to order the dvd things.

  • ooooooooooooo.... i missed it....the memories it bring back....

  • I want to give parsley a big hug cos he's so cute.

  • Brings back the memories,

  • Too cute for words. Take good care of that tail, Parsley. Nite, nite.

  • The tune of this makes me cry, and ditto my dad. He always cries when he hears this. I think its the essense of memory it has, if you know what I mean.

Aww, I wish all these like parsley, hecotrs house, pogles wood e.t.c were still on television. It's such a shame cebeebies wont show anything halfway decent.

  • Look at Parsley's eyes at the start of his song....they make me laugh everytime!

Thanks for such a great post! x

  • He's so cute!

  • Ahhhh so good to see this again

  • Oh yes, hello old friend Parsley. Yes, I'm 42 too!!

  • I'm 42 too :) Youtube is superb for all the kids shows. I have been watching The Pogles, Tales of the River Bank, Mary Mungo and Midge, Roobarb, and even the Test Card Transmission with the girl and the clown. LOL!!!

  • Parsley the lion is my hero =)

  • You're very welcome.

    Parsley loves you too.

  • Go Parsley! I luv him! I usd to watch this all the time! Thank you SO SO SO SO SO MUCH!!! THANK YOU!!!

  • I love Parsley.

  • When I was young I watch this !!! thank you

SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MMMUUUCCCHHH !!!

  • Oh boy, Playschool, Hector's House, and the fabulous Herb Garden! Hector's arms used to scare me to death! But I used to love them all. At least they spoke real words ... not like Teletubbies! Also 42 and proud of living in the best years for kids TV! (well, if we discount Rainbow LOL) ... Now where's Grange Hill?!)

  • me and the wife are loving all these clips , we are 42. thanks for showing

  • god that was amazing. that has taken me back 15 years. thank you so much for posting this.

blast from the past or what?

    ~X~

  • Thank you so much!

  • Ooohh thank you very much - that does ring a bell!!

I've realised now that there wasn't a circus thing; it was actually Mary, Mungo and Midge :P lol

  • I also grew up in the '90s and loved Parsley. I saw him because they showed episodes of "The Herbs" before the news in the evenings. Parsley was probably my favourite.

  • I remember watching this as a kid- it was really great, so thank you to coolitababy for posting it. Does anyone have any full epsiodes of "The Herbs"?

  • LOVE IT!

  • The Herbs was the one!

I grew up in the 90s and its all I can really remember.. Theres a Herbs episode on the 1991 childrens favourites video.. aybe thats where everyone knows it from?

    XxX

  • You just made me a very very happy girl. NO ONE remembers The Herbs apart from my friend Megan. I really really really want it on video, or even better DVD. Unlikely though.

  • Look in charity shops!! xx

  • I have no idea where you found this but I am in debt to you...This, along with Jeremy and Will'O the Wisp, was one of my favourite cartoons as a child.

  • You can buy full episodes from places like amazon & ebay.

  • *LEGEND*

  • lol...he has charisma, doesn't he?

  • Goodness me how I loved Parsley. But I also liked the rather fat feathery owl called Sage... and Bayleaf the gardener.
