  • So much respect for this artist. Amazing music!

  • Found this randomly &..... I. am. now. a fan.

  • That was A M A Z I N G :)

  • 69 dislikes because Kesha was watching this video...

  • Wow.. last time a watched this video, it only had 480'000 views! Masterpiece!

  • Just mind blowing

  • When I was very small, I had an irrational fear of electronic instruments. I was afraid they would turn themselves on and start creepily playing themselves.

This video kind of brought that fear back. ._.

  • So glad this kind of music has got into the mainstream finally! Now everyone can sit around and listen to Nightmares on wax and 45 dip (:

  • Was anybody else at 4:43 expecting the song to have a bass drop?

  • @NoahMusic96 its begging for somebody to make a remix.

  • Just... Downright master F***ing piece...

  • I like this video more every time I watch

  • I want a Collitron D575 ;)

  • bouncing boobies at :22

  • That girl looks like shes humping something! :P

  • I THINK THE ALIENS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. THEY ARE HERE. I'M SURE. STATE OF THE ART BRAH !

  • Our extraterrestrial overlords visited me and shared with me the ability to spot their humanoid spies. Gotye is one of them. He is infiltrating our minds with 100% pure awesomeness. Listening to his music is an advanced form of healing.

  • Ok this can seem like a really stupid question, but I saw Gotye live and he did the exact same voice than on his CD. I was sondering if he had a "special effect" on his micro to do that or if it is just a voice he can do? x

  • @cath2204 The mic connects to a synth, which alters his voice.

It's the same thing people like T-Pain to when they play live shows.

  • @PowBiffFtang Thanks a lot for answering so quickly !

I really do like a lot this kind of special effects. (:

  • @cath2204

Have a look at the 'Making Making Mirrors' doco on Gotye's channel. He explains there how he creates the voice in this song.

  • @Pulsar89 Thanks a lot (: the documentary is very helpful, I saw it once but it seems that I missed the part when he tells about this song. ^^

  • I don't know what I just watched, but it was amazing.

  • @MisterPoofDaddy you just watched your mother playing with your friends...

  • BRILLIANT :)

  • this is seriously the best song ever i love this song this song shows off how talented he really is deep low voice loud and soft where ever i'm going i hope you understand "GOTYE FOREVER"

  • pretty cool!

  • This song reminds me of any of the "Symphony of Science" videos :D

  • Groovy. Totally love it. Listened it once & i loved it.

  • this will keep growing i'm sure

  • Strangely addictive!! Love it.

  • Damon Albarn called

  • Lowrey Cotillion D575 electric organ.

  • This song is the jam

  • cooooooooooo...oooooooool

  • My Lutins (elves) like GOTYE !

  • This song could have been so much better without this robotic voice...

  • @AlexetCatherineShow While you're entitled to your opinion, it's wrong.

  • @KFAintheUSA I'm sorry I don't have such a great taste of music like yours

  • @AlexetCatherineShow I think it adds to the atmosphere of the song. It seems off at first, almost annoying. But after a few listens it adds to the groove factor

  • Taking a lesson right out the daft punk book, lovely stuff!

  • Gotye you're a genius!

  • i order my new Cotillion today....

  • @Nithralas It's literal but it's so whimsical and AWESOME.

The video captures that space age fascination with technology, which is also present in the lyrics. It's a bit nonsense along the lines of the "turbo encapulator"

Music these days is all about "state of the art" auto-tuning and over-production. Every generation thinks it's tricks are the hot thing. I love the way the song plays with retro elements while sounding modern.

  • This is one of my favorite songs off the Making Mirrors album. This song is so chill. I am definitely sensing an Art of Noise vibe/influence to it (listen to AON Moments in Love). Gotye is putting a modern spin on the 80s and 90s music that influenced him. I haven't been this excited about an artist since I don't know when. Keep it coming, Gotye!

  • The cartoon people remind me of the old Nickelodeon show "My Life With Loopy" from "Kablam!"

  • This song is so odd. But i REALLY like it :)

  • Comment removed

  • Personally I don't like the video. The story is much too literal and doesn't leave your imagination with things to do once you listen again. Song is great though

  • I can't handle the vocals...

  • It has a sinister feel to it..

  • Thumbs up if your listening to this on 2.29. and it is very hot today!

  • live isses noch dazu der wahnsinn :D das video is so flashig, hach das konzert war göttlich oO

  • the little kids boobs arew soo weird

  • Holy crap, this is so freaking creepy. BUT SO FREAKING AWESOME!!

  • This video was definitely inspired by Empty Spaces from the Wall. Awesome!!!!!

  • If Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' (the flower animation) and then Im old greg's 'The Funk' animation and then old school cartoon network's animation had a baby... Gotye's 'State Of The Art' (literally) would be that baby lol

  • @todayudye watching this music video blazed is amazing. The way that the music is perfectly in tune with the video makes it mindblowing

  • AWESOME!!!

  • The red head is adopted.

You can tell because neither parent has red hair.

Regardless, this song is the bee's knees.

    That is all.

  • @jacksobrooks Being a redhead is a recessive gene, which means if both parents have it (even if their hair isn't red), then their child can have it. For example, I have red hair but neither of my parents do, and I am 100% sure that I am not adopted.

This song is certainly the bee's knees, though.

  • @KimKilledPacho Actually even if the grand parnts have the redhead gene ANY descendand will have the gene and could occasionally become a redhead. Only one parent needs to have that gene. I for example have dark blond hair but the last person with blond hair in my family was the grandmother of my mother.

  • I think I may have just pissed my pants.

  • they didnt end up throwing out the television......

    THE LYRICS LIED!!!!

  • bravo bravo mustard..

  • ITS A TRAP!!!

  • this is really fucked up xD

  • what a beautiful electronic mix

  • absolute beauty

  • seems to me like this song is about drug abuse lmao

  • I smell Radiohead

  • this is a slap to the f*cking face of all the mainstream pop stars today

  • @kingandrewapolo1 totally agree with you ,this is what real music should be about

  • @kingandrewapolo1 I agree and on my vinyl copy at the end of the song it goes somelike... No instruments were used making this song... only buttons were pushed

  • Poltergeist comes to mind. "They're here." Fuck. Throwing all my pianos out now.

  • Daily Gotye time.

  • This is a damn well interesting song :3

  • I find this scary that i am watching this on a computer. The message is quite scary... Brilliant job!

  • Wowww... This is how you use auto tune T-pain!

  • At 5:14 the baby looks like a Roomba.

  • What the hell......

  • state

    state

    state

    state of the art!!

  • now this is real music

  • DROP THE BASS

    DROP THE BASS

    AAAAAAAAAW YISSSS

  • Comment removed

  • pianophobia

  • Dat bass...

  • gotye must have yakked a few cones before writing this song

  • i listen to this track everyday while im driving

  • The whole atmosphere of this video reminds me of the old cartoon network..like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory haha.

  • @showy0urteeeth oh yeah. lol old school

  • @showy0urteeeth spot on mate :)

  • @showy0urteeeth ya!! it also reminds me of the Brave Little Toaster.

  • @showy0urteeeth Not sure if you were around when Ren and Stimpy where around but I'll teach your grandma to suck eggs!

  • @showy0urteeeth more like fosters home 4 imaginary friends style. but still cartoon network, yeah

  • I keep thinking Del the Funky Homosapien is going to have a verse somewhere

  • I put the Genie Bass on

So my left hand can play the choir... That just makes my soul vibrate! I wish I had a fat subwoofer for that Genie bass part damn it's soooo goood!

  • so simple yet so beautiful!

  • I like how they used auto tune for this track. GENIUS musicians I tell ya

  • Finally some new music that isn't boring

  • how is trippin' on this song ?? :))) thumbs up !

  • @todayudye about to find out in.... how long does it take for shrooms to kick in again? hahahah :D

  • @todayudye LOL guy youre mad high

  • @todayudye Groovy haha you really dig the music. jk

  • so addictive the sounds make your mind relax...

  • I don't think this video is about how technology has taken over our lives (maybe a little). Rather I think it's about how music consumed Gotye's life from the second he touched an instrument

  • Such a good song.

  • I wanna be top comment in this top video!

  • Amazing animation, the lyrics are actually so complex and symbolic if you listen to them properly.

  • I may never touch an organ again....

  • @MissteryGirl01 What about your boyfriends penis, will you touch that organ again?

  • ok... im really freaked out now. like, REALLY freaked out

  • 5:00-5:03 with good headphones on = Best three seconds of my life.

  • Rise of the Cybermen's alternative plot.

  • I've listened to this so much that the words 'state of the art' now sound weird to me :P

  • 1:19 Zoinkees! It's a ghost!!

  • @ICreepsItReal you noticed too!

  • "Mom? Never mind about getting me an electric keyboard"

  • Is it just me or are modern music videos getting crazier and creepier by the minute? Cool song though.

  • This is my type of music.

  • I think it's crazy the family turns into the tooters...

  • Chuck Norris would have just pressed the off switch... Well, actually, he probably would have beat the thing to a pulp...

  • freaky shit

  • Grooovy baby. Yeah!

  • I can't believe he got that organ for only $100! Bargin! jamster! :) <3 Gotye!!

  • Really weird, but I love it!!

  • another great video !

  • But they DIDN'T "Throw out the Television!"...

  • I'm addicted.

  • Chillest fucking song ever.

  • This is what's happening to the music industry.

  • The underlying message in this video. I'm going to have nightmares tonight about that synthesizer... and possibly my microwave, maybe my TV too....

  • That was one incredible acid trip.

  • i would love to hear this with dubstep remix would be so dope

  • @1980brownsfan i don't know, bro, but it's dope enough for me already.. :D

  • I am never getting a synthesizer now

  • OMG. my fikng favourite sung ever! THX THx heard about30 times

  • 100 likes for song and 100 for clip ++++++

  • Is he using animation bits from Disney's Fantasia?

  • this video could start a new phobia that is called "fear of the piano".

  • this really makes you think about mankinds greed for knowledge and 'new and exclusive thing'. definately gonna put this on my new iphone 6. lol

  • I am a very close minded pissed off individual when it comes to music. I've hated most of everything that has come out in the past 10 years and I must say, Gotye is great. Maybe music isn't dead after all.

  • @Idkfawin32 - I agree with you 100%. I have been pissed at music in general for about the last 10 years and Gotye is a breath of freash air. Since Preface- I have a prediliction for groups that actually make music at the same time, in the same room and (for the most part) on a single take....or super creative people (such as Gotye) who simply take the time to let their creativity out rather than usurp someone else's creativity.

  • pink panther??

  • Triipy

  • garth hudson

  • this song reminds me of something that weebls stuff would do i mean this it in a good way i love weebls stuff but even more i love GOTYE

  • not getting one of those anytime soon...it sounded cool though!

  • it's a fantastic video - a perfect blend of visual and audio - which echoes the sentiment behind Kate Bush's Deeper Understanding, especially the 'Director's Cut' version.

  • hows this dude not on every station?

  • There's a HUGE problem. When the cotillion arrive, they didn't get rid of the television. Sup with that??

  • Sitcom version of 2001: Space Odyssey.

  • This song sounds like Zapp and Kraftwerk had a baby.

  • anyone else see the pig at 3:10

  • All because he put the Genie Bass on, what was he thinking

  • it might be that he is trying to convey that technology is taking over that's how it interpret it

  • My mate had one of those, his whole family turned into vocoders.

  • His videos are awesome!!

  • It's a home organ, more epic than a synthesizer. Sheesh haha.

  • What just happened?

  • Ha this sounds like Dub Reggae.

  • O dear, this has been played in 280p, 1080p is amazingly different!! Never realised how much difference it made..

  • Lovely music.

  • I need a club night that plays this in my life!!! (Newcastle UK if anyone has any answers!)

  • Oh my.. this was the creepiest thing I've ever heard. Awesome song !

  • I don't have much to say other than my mind has been blown.

That was fucking amazing (and slightly creepy/scary lol)

  • listening to how he came up with this, is the only thing more amazing than this song itself. Wally I so love you.

  • My lord, that was amazing.

  • The Jetsons on crack?

  • what am I watching?

  • i love music again!

  • THIS IS MY NEW SHIT RIGHT HERE!!!!! Naw i really love this joint!!!!
