@justinefiona94 During sleep paralysis you are awake and unable to move any part of your body but you can see and think in your prison, the same exact situation. You are assuming the complete opposite of what sleep paralysis is because you are confused by the word sleep. Its the same situation, not a weird comparison but instead its the obvious exact same symptom. Her condition was potentially permanent whereas sleep paralysis you eventually fall back asleep, later wake up and can move again.
@lovemyjaybear that's just sleep paralysis, once you realsise what it is its just annoying as you want to wake up but have to wait, and if you sleep on your back its hard to breathe, so don't struggle or panic as you can use too much oxygen as your breathing rate is not controlable.
@lovemyjaybear That's because you're brain had sent melatonin throughout your body, which paralyzes you so you don't act out your dreams. I've had this happened to me before too, but I did it on purpose (look up WILD lucid dreaming). I was stuck there, and I had hallucinations, I heard my mom screaming for help like as if she was dying, and I just had to lay there and do nothing. It was truly fucked up.
@SteezySkater72 OH MY GOD! That's horrible! It's the worst! That has happened to me often. I'm asleep, but its as if I'm awake and I'm desperately trying to move, but I'm totally paralyzed. It's like a small taste of Locked-in-syndrome, so I can really empathize with these poor tragic people.
My husband had locked-in-sydrome and I was extremly lucky and blessed that he came out of it after 4 days and the doctors knew what it was right away. For those family members who have loved one with this issue keep faith in God and hope.
For those who have never walked this journey, the scary part is the medical profession whose sole way of DX whther a person should live or die is to pinch their fingers and toes, then yell in their face. If the patient does not respond or can't, the doctors recommend "end of life". I keep waiting on the pro-lifers to take on the cause of patients with brain injuries. So far, I do not see them or hear their voices shouting at the injustice that happens every day in our hospitals.
There's more to declaring a patient dead than pinching fingers and toes and yelling at unconcious patients. I don't know the particulars on this case and they weren't stated in the video, but to declare a patient "brain dead" 2 neurologists have to agree before the declaration can be officially made. Unfortunately, human beings make mistakes, doctors included, but your post is villianizing people who do their best to save lives.
God bless you. I am so glad to have found this wonderful inspirational video. You give me hope as I walk this journey with my daughter. I believe she is in a locked-in condition and always has been since her injury last May. Doctors told me to "let" her go. I believe her case has been misdiagnosed here in Idaho. My daughter knew me and responded to me from the very beginning. I gave her to God and God gave her back to me. You give me hope. Thank you.
The mormons are disgusting pigs, they run utah like a 3rd world country and with the years of inbreeding the mormons do in utah, no wonder the mormons there are slow as hell, thats why further advanced schools always had to be asked to come to utah to teach utah the latest in technology
@runmadkate Never mind my first comment, Kate. I see from your other videos that you are indeed one of the lucky ones. (Lucky, that is, within the context of having been a locked-in syndrome patient in the first place.)
I just read, by the way, that only about 10% of LIS victims survive past 4 months of onset. And I'm sure that the percent who actually make a reasonably good recovery is even smaller. So, if it's not too inappropriate, may I just say to you, "Congratulations!".
Damn... If there was a way i could comunicate i would spell '' KILL ME''... seriously... You dont wanna live if your like that... I guess i would get claustrophobia. Its just a horror and thank god there are ways for people 2 comunicate when they have the Locked-in syndrome.
Just think of it... Being able to hear everyone else and just wanting to say something to let them know you are alive. But not being able to do so. Slowly dying, trapped into the ashes of your own body and the weakness of your mind...

There's a movie that I saw--based on a true story of a Frenchman with
locked-in-syndrome---called "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." It was very disturbing. I can't think of a fate worst than locked-in-syndrome.
