hello sir , very much useful tips for canon 1000d i came through by you though i am a canon 1000d user for over a year , my photography is on dark places (night) and on moving objects and i am finding hard to keep on with high exposure , is there any problem i use the canon 18-55mm which came with the kit , any suggestions ?
i need your help, it was my bday not long ago n ive been checking on some cameras, and yeah i was wondering if this is a camera for taking pics of sports for example, i do parkour/free running and i wanted a gd camera that would take gd pics cos atm im just taking the pics out of the movies we film. do you think this can do just fine or should i go for the 550d ?
I was just about to buy a compact before going through your DSLR reviews in curiosity. This video pretty much had me sold and I found a 1000D on ebay, loving it. :D
@ThomasShortley NO i havent because of money all i have is 200 so im wait i heard nikon is better but the d3100 is way better then the d3000 so i dont know yet..
im a professional photographer working at a portrait studio, we use a nikon there. But at home, i am saving for my own dslr. i currently have a canon powershot, but it doesnt do what i need it to do. i have never worked with a dslr outside of my studio. i was wondering how well this camera would do at concerts or weddings etc. please get back to me! thank you!
I like your videos you go into great details with everything..
I need some help I want to buy a SLR camera under $1000 AUD for a first time owner but something that's not to armature. I want HD video and at least 3FPS I want clear high detail images. most of my photography will be Weddings Outdoor landscapes and night time shooting with my astronomy hobby
Cheers mate Hope you can help me! I want to use it in my new zealand holiday u have awesome landscapes over there!
@tubehubing Thanks! I don't know about Ozzie prices, but the cheapest DSLR with HD video would probably be the Canon 500D / T1i (720p) or 550D / T2i (1080p). Feel free to discuss further on the cameralabs . com forums!
Thanks for the review. Very thorough. Of course I also checked out the written reviews, not all sections but I really really really enjoy the way you role.

I'm looking for a nice, new camera but not sure whether to pick the Canon 1000 or the Samsung NX10???
Samsung is stylish, thin and 14.6mp compared to the 10.1mp of the Canon.
Would be mostly doing sports photos and action photos. Still in middle school and dont have a job i can't pend the big dollars on the Canon lenses. Heard the 50-200mm lens with the Samsung is brilliant for sports photos. Please answer and thanks for the review helped
@97fordo If you can, go check them out in person and compare the shots (if the staff aren't ass holes and let you try before you buy). i'd go with the Canon though personally. MP is nothing but a marketing thing unless you have a good sensor and lens to go with it, otherwise you just get big noisy images that are nice and blurry.
isnt it impossible to shoot 1.5 frames/pictures per second? you either make 0, 1 or 2 frames/pictures per second. Would be weird if you made 1 picture and a half a picture
@kaas94 It's just the way the maths works out. It takes 1 full image within that one second and then gets half way through taking/processing the next one, then it finishes the processing in the next second and then manages to get another full image processed.
Hi Gordon, first of all I would like to congratulate about these Canon EOS XS reviews... but I got a question ... how can I turn on the canons light that is on the left of ISO I guess you know what I mean ... can u help me :)
@MrPlaystationboy Its an easy to use DSLR camera for beginner photographers,I got this camera as well and found it really easy to use in my opinion, you should get it!
Hey, you can get this camera for about £350 with a lens nowadays. Since it's been a while since you made this video, are there any cameras for that price that are better? I've seen the 1100D but that price jumps to about £499 with a lens.
@dylalvanhoogenboogen JPEG is a compressed format, and because of this the images usually use less memory (you can store more photos on your flash card), but this may affect the quality of the image. RAW is the uncompressed, pixel-by-pixel duplication, of the actual photo and usually require (a lot) more memory. Try opening MS Paint and save some photo as a JPEG file. Then save the same image as a 24-bit BMP file -- that's pretty much the memory consumption ratio between JPEG and RAW.
Great review. I've been thinking about buying this camera for my first DSLR. I've seen it with the IS lens for less than £400. This looks like a really good price to me but are there other good DSLR cameras for this sort of price that I should also look at?
Hi Gordon! Thanks for the review. Question: I am a beginner photographer and I am going to buy my first DSLR. I really like this camera a lot and I was planning on buying it. But I saw Canon eos 500d and I liked that one as well. Telling the truth I don't care much about the video function. The only thing which annoys me is that on 500d you've got 15megapixels and on 1000d only 10. So I don't know what to do.Is the image quality of 500d much better, should I overpay because of the megapixels?
hey gordon, im deciding on buying on buying my first dslr but im torn between the nikon d3000 and the cannon rebel xs. are the 1000d and rebel xs the same or not?
Manual, Aperture Priority, and Shutter Priority settings? How are they? Would you recommend this camera to a photo major who is starting his digital photo class this semester?
@Seicopath12 In my opinion, those are the only modes to use. Every other setting IMO is rubbish.
As for the XS, it's a great camera to start off with. It's cheap, it works, and it takes great photos. Many beginners will stick with the XS/1000D for a long time before they "outgrow" the body. I'd get the Rebel XS with the 18-55mm kit lens and stow the rest of your cash. Only upgrade when you feel you truly need to :)
Gordon... You made me realize my camera had LIVEVIEW. You also made me realize that it does not work on auto (green square setting) what the heck? Please tell me am doing something wrong? Or does LIVEVIEW does not work on Auto mode... Love your video. The best!

Hi Gordon, do you suggest for me to wait for Canon to market another entry-level DSLR, instead of buying this one? and if so, how long will I have to wait?
hi gordon thank you for this excellent review. ive got this camera for christmas and mainly wanted it for taking photos at motorsport events was looking at getting the canon ef-s 55/250 mm lens or the tamron 70-300mm lens would this setup be good for the job and if so which of the two lenses would you recommend? thanks again
Another great review. I've learned quiet a bit from watching your videos. Hows the grip on this camera? I know it doesn't have that nice rubber piece on the front and back like some of the others, but does it still feel solid? or is does the lack of the grip make it feel really pasticky and toyish? Thanks
Hi Gordon. thanks for posting this review its got tons of info about this camera and we can all follow it easily. I got a quick question, I'm deciding between this camera (Canon EOS 1000D) or the Nikon D60. I'm also a beginner in the DSLR part of photography so what do you think and recommend?
Hey Gordon. Thanks heaps for making this review, its got tons of info we can all follow easily. I got a question, I'm trying to decide between this camera or the Nikon D60. What do you recommend or think is better?
I played with my Gf's moms rebel xs. And it was too light for me, felt cheap. I like the D3000 better. Looks better too. Features and display are better. But thats my opinion and taste. I bought the D3000 last tuesday and love it
@facedown069 Yeah, right now I'm leaning more towards the Nikon D3000 as well. This is my first DSLR so I want to make the right choice. Thanks for your opinion.
Im very stressed about what DSLR i want for christmas. I'm between the Nikon D3000 and this camera. My friend has the new XS and i think its to light for my taste. I like a heavier feel when im taking pictures. My photography 2 teacher has a canon 20d and im in love with it, just cant find it online for what im looking for. If you have a suggestion let me know!
@commanderjet1 Nope, the cheapest Canon DSLR with video recording is the 500D / T1i, BUT I would be surprised if they don't replace the 1000D / XS in 2011 with a model which DOES offer video. Pure speculation though, and no timescales other than sometime in 2011.
Hi Gordon. Wonderful review once again! I am stuck between the Nikon D3000 and the Canon 1000D. It would be my first DSLR and i want mostly manual features. I also like night photography. On my details and 'criteria' which would you recommend?
I'm looking for my first DSLR, to take pictures of wedding at night. The 1000D / XS is good for the job? Because, one friend have the D3100 and the sensibility is very good for night shots. Of course the lens have a big influence in the final result, but with the standard kit (18-55mm) is a good choice for night shots?
@lunapark1090 I don't have any experience with the 450D but my 1000D hasn't let me down one bit specially when you combine it with the Nifty Fifty Lens It's awesome! :)
simple question nikon d3000 or canon 1000d? im a student doing a national diploma in photography so i just need a camera that gets the job done and is easy to use :)
@MoonsaulTV - how ungrateful of you to tell that! You really is a parasite.!! You are not even forced to visit his website you moron! Just say thank you!
@MoonsaultTV Hang on, I provide these videos and my website totally free of charge and you think it's unfair for me to encourage people to visit my pages for more free information and analysis? This is my full time job you know. It's people like you which discourage me from producing any more free content and moving to a pay-per-view model instead.
@cameralabs Look. The Page is great. But It's okya to mention it in the Video, maybe at the beginning or in the discribtion. But then again, you mention it in every comment. Like, you give a great and usefull answer.. And then: Make sure you visit Cameralabs. com.. It's more annoying then it makes me wan't to visit it. Im a subscriber, and i have huge respect for you. But it's annoying me.
hi what are the suitable lenses with this dslr, for common uses..how strong do u recommend efs18-250mm IS and ef50mm f/1.8 II for this dslr?i really need your advice and FYI i've already visited dslrtips.Tq.
I am an architect student and I need a DSLR camera. I watched most of your videos, however I can't decide between the Canon EOS 1000 or the Nikon D5000. I know the Nikon doesn't have the AF lenses. But which one is going to give better quality pictures( with and without zooming). Can u help me out ? thanks.

Just a quick word of thanks. You have found your calling. The information here is outstanding. I'm in the market for an entry level DSLR and of all the various reviews on them, yours have been the best. Cheers.
Im wondering if the PC software that comes with the XS or XSI lets you see live changes in the image as your making changes to the picture settings (ie Shutter speed, sensitivity, exposure compensation etc) BEFORE taking the picture ? Please help.
Im wondering if the Live View PC program for the XS or XSI lets you see the changes in the image on the screen upon changing the settings BEFORE taking the picture? Please help.
Its not the camera that makes great photos the the Person behind the Camera.
Both are very nice Cameras. But I also want to state that if your choosing between the 2, Both nikon and Canon are on the Top of the Market but if you have People who are willing to share lens with you, take the camera with the same brand as the lens. Its better when you have a more variety of lens for different certain type of pictures. My Parents use Canon. I Do to.
should i get this or the 500d? the 1000d is nearly half the price of the 500d and besides, i relaised i can get a cheaper body but a very impressive lens. if im correct, its the lens that brings the real quality anyway. cant wait to get this soon!
hi, Im comparing the powershot sx20is against this one...and I cannot any zoom data about this camera (rebelxs). I was wondering if it had any zoom at all! Is it worth to pay the extra money for the rebel xs over the powershot?
Hi cameralabs.. great help with the review. I'm trying to decide between the 1000D and 550D. Its clear that 550D is the better choice. But being an amateur, i'm hesitant to spend a lot just yet. Could i go wrong with the 1000D instead? I am getting an offer with an extra zoom lens along and the regular 18-55mm. Please advice.
Hey Gordon!! i was just wondering about lenses, i have a choice of getting a deal with a 55-200 lense or a 55-250 lense now im not very sure what the difference is or what it means could you please explain??
which has better quality of photos, rebel xs or rebel t3

@CrappyVlog it can't be used as a webcam unless you use eos movrec with it (go google it)
but it's not very flexible, you need to attach it to your laptop
good thing is, it's just like watching the camera's live preview =D

Would you recommend this, or the Nikon D3000?

@Justsomeperson660
I played with my Gf's moms rebel xs. And it was too light for me, felt cheap. I like the D3000 better. Looks better too. Features and display are better. But thats my opinion and taste. I bought the D3000 last tuesday and love it
facedown069 1 year ago
@facedown069 Yeah, right now I'm leaning more towards the Nikon D3000 as well. This is my first DSLR so I want to make the right choice. Thanks for your opinion.
Justsomeperson660 1 year ago
@Justsomeperson660 No problem, D3000 had no live preview but i dont really care, i might switch to the D3100 for video feature

Thank you for the review! But I have 1 question : How much pictures can you take with a memorycard of 8GB?

dylalvanhoogenboogen 1 year ago
Im very stressed about what DSLR i want for christmas. I'm between the Nikon D3000 and this camera. My friend has the new XS and i think its to light for my taste. I like a heavier feel when im taking pictures. My photography 2 teacher has a canon 20d and im in love with it, just cant find it online for what im looking for. If you have a suggestion let me know!
Thank you,
Justin

@IVplayerfin the canon 1000d only takes pictures and doesn't take videos sadly.

Hi Gordon. This is one of the best reviews I've seen about this camera. I have a question, is this camera able to use video?

@jaykkob97 Nope! If it did I'd have mentioned it!

@cameralabs You didn't mention the built-in flash, and it has one.

So I cannot video with this camera at all?
commanderjet1 1 year ago
@commanderjet1 Nope, the cheapest Canon DSLR with video recording is the 500D / T1i, BUT I would be surprised if they don't replace the 1000D / XS in 2011 with a model which DOES offer video. Pure speculation though, and no timescales other than sometime in 2011.

Hi Gordon. Wonderful review once again! I am stuck between the Nikon D3000 and the Canon 1000D. It would be my first DSLR and i want mostly manual features. I also like night photography. On my details and 'criteria' which would you recommend?
acdc301 1 year ago
Hello Gordon,
I'm looking for my first DSLR, to take pictures of wedding at night. The 1000D / XS is good for the job? Because, one friend have the D3100 and the sensibility is very good for night shots. Of course the lens have a big influence in the final result, but with the standard kit (18-55mm) is a good choice for night shots?
See ya and best regards from Brazil.

HeyYou711 1 year ago
People who debate over d3000 and Rebel XS.
