Please no more roundabouts! People don't know how to use their turn signal here. It's very hard to tell when people are leaving the roundabout. Maybe put up some signs that say "Activate blinker when leaving roundabout, it's the law!"
roundabouts are a waste of time and function, most ppl dont yield anyways they just drive out..
I think DDI's are the best inventions and id like to see more of them being designed..I just watched the Provo Center Street animation and quite frankly its ok but could have been designed more commuter friendly
Novel traffic designs require driver familiarity conditioning. Lots of Utahns don't know how to use Roundabouts, so they stop in the middle to let people in, or shoot right into them without checking if anyone is there. Unfamiliar traffic designs need to give extra visual warnings, and they still present safety concerns when non-local drivers enter them
When I stumbled upon the "Diverging Diamond" as presently implemented at Pioneer crossing, I was pretty shocked. Fortunately the roads turn
@gllr02 we would certainly consider using roundabouts in the right circumstances depending on the geometry, traffic patterns, traffic volumes, right of way, etc. We would consider a roundabout on a lower speed roadway that had a lot of left turns, at a T intersection, or one that has several roads coming in at odd angles. A couple of problems with a roundabout are they generally require more right of way and we can not coordinate the operation with surrounding signals.
@UtahDOT I see what you want to say. The roundabout idea was my first thought when watching the video. I couldn't help noticing how many traffic lights are required in such a big structure. The idea of making the traffic stop repeatedly can provide traffic jams and a more stressful driving. Using alternative not so crowded access lanes and roundabouts may prevent this, making the traffic much more continuous and fluent. But of course this is only my point of view :)
Actually HDR Engineering created the Animation for UDOT, and over 1 gigabyte of X,Y, Z, + time data from VISSIM was imported into 3D Studio Max programmatically to bring the traffic model in.
Forgot to mention that this bridge looks like a way cool idea.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your questions. Our consultant PPBH created the animation for us.
