Wait until you find out that Sullivan recorded a 10" album of Sitar instrumentals for the DeWolfe Production Library in 1968, under a positively absurd Indian-sounding pseudonym. But! It's good stuff.
I have no clue what's going on, but it's fascinating to see that from a 1975 perspective, in 1999 we would live on the moon, but still use sheets of paper and the monitors would be black and white!
Big Jim is my favorite. Space:1999 is the #1 sci-fi program ever. it was filmed from january 1974 to about march of 1977 with a 10 month break between february 1975 till december 1975. i met the actors and directors in NYC and it was the scariest show. i was 11 when it first aired in the USA. I thought Barry Morse was so cool and a cool guy when i met him. They all are. i like year 1 especiall "Testament of Arkadia".
I can't think of a cooler, more haunting opening sequence to any show. The Sitar track was called "Atonement",@georgeman2468 says it perfectly, to all those modern sci-fi lovin' Space:1999 detractors. Check out Victor relaxing in the middle aisle. He's stretched out, head titled back, eyes closed, just soaking it all in. Love it!
They just dont make them like this anymore. People of today are idiots, cos if a sci fi show isnt full of action and CGI then they arent interested. This is understated stuff, with real presence and atmosphere. You find a lot of series 1 episodes were quite slow paced, and had a real sense of dark loneliness and isolation with the way they were produced. As a kid in the 70's this was the best thing ever.
Considering how music progressed up to that period (mid-70s), from Sgt. Pepper to Dark Side of the Moon, I can see how the creators of this show envisioned music would continue to evolve into an experience not meant to merely entertain, but to expand consciousness.
This is a brilliant piece of music, and the mood set by the actors and cinematography could not compliment it better. Thank you for posting.
wow amazing sound. Ive only played this instument once and it has such a unique sound....too bad it isnt plugged into anything in this scene!! Great sound regardless.
That's it! No more sitar music. Tomorrow night's show will be Hannah Montana.

This is my FAVORITE teaser from this series (which is among my favorites); it's amazingly well-directed.
The sitar performance might be my favorite 1999 soundtrack, as well.

@p9i7 This episode felt like a Japanese horror film. Not one of my favorites of Space:1999, but certainly on the the creepiest.
