I have the d5100 and it sucks cause you can't adjust shutter and ISO while doing video, and I am getting a ton of grain even with my 50 F1.8 set at like F4. With the stock 18-55 lens, does this camera handle dark areas of the video well without a lot of grain?

I am getting a lot of noise when filming in low light on my 600D using a 18-55mm lens. What can I do to get rid of it. I have adjusted the shutter speed, ISO, and other settings. What is the best way to get a clear picture with low light. Please help!
hi. i have many questions to ask! what is the AEB settings for in Manual mode?? how do i record full hd in 50fps? mine is only at 25fps and i heard that u can make it higher by changing some settings. Whats the difference between class 6,7,8,9 and 10 sd card? is t3i a good dslr to make films/short films? my full hd vid is quite noisy. u can hear sounds like wind, echo etc. how to reduce it? how to change iso for video? what does ISO do for video recording? please reply asap! thanks =)
Does your Canon 600d really perform so well at low light with ISO1600 or is the video also processed with a noise reduction? It hard for me to believe that this is unprocessed since I shot video clips at about similar lighting conditions, had my ISO at 1600, used Nikon 50mm lens at 1.8f and still got quite noisy video quality.
@xoxowoahhennnyyy If you want it for video recording I would suggest Normal Full HD camcorder for two reasons On you need to focus manually or hold button each you want to focus again (which make sound in the video not to loud but can cover small sounds). If your into film making and you want it look filmy then this camera is pretty good atleast in day light, not so great in low light.
Hi, I have a question, I just recently got the t3i and any time I go to an iso as high as 1600 it gets terribly grainy. Why isn't yours? What was your exposure?
please.... what the format of video exported in your sotfware (premiere cs4, right ?), for so good quality, even in 360 mode ????? I use vegas, and im not getting so good quality in my videos... please, help ! estudioamapa@hotmail.com
Hey, LOVE the video, could you do me a favor, and private message me the settings for this? i also have the canon t3i and right now, i cant do anything to save my life with low light, i just need help doing it, i love your settings and i was wondering if you could be nice and send me the settings. thanks!
hi guys, i know nothing about photography. only some. but what setting do you set when you want like the cars to look like strips of light or have lights look like dots? thank you
I recently played around with mine during the day with an ISO of 100 and it still looked extremely grainy.. the shutter speed was at about 50 then i played around with it to around 150 and it still looked grainy could it be the exposure? I think it was at f2.8.. Just bothers me that i get grain on my 600D
@FenchelJanisch Thanks. I'm looking for a good DSLR to film action sports with. I'll end up buying the Canon 7D if I can't find anything cheaper. How is the 600D with motion?
@FenchelJanisch Can you show me how to change this frame rate to be 60? Becouse i realy can't find this option. I've got only 50fps and is no word in instruction how to do this.
@CMajster I'm not sure where you're getting 50 fps. You can switch to the lower resolution 60 fps by selecting video mode on the dial (the video camera icon), then clicking the menu button above and to the left of the LCD Display, moving to the right with the D-Pad selector, and then selecting "Movie rec Size" with the Set button. Once you're here, use the dial on the top of the camera, just behind the shutter button, to cycle through the options.
@CMajster The first number is the horizontal resolution, and the second number is the fps. So there's 1920/30, 1920/24, 1280/60, and 640/30 as the default options. Once your desired option is highlighted, use Set to select it.
Ok thank you for help but I just found a solution. Maybe it's not place for those kind of tips but i'll write this anyway (Maybe it will be helpfull for somebody). In many Canon's cameras you've got in default settings your video system set as PAL but if you'll change this in too NTSC you can record in 60fps. It's problem in many users from Europe, where PAL is as a normal video system. Enjoy :)
@angedailesnoires my current lens has only f/2.8 maximum. paired up with ISO 1600 it is impressive! the footage I got was quite close to this video! I am planning to get a f/1.8 for better low light performance. btw this pro got another trick, he's good at post editing. I'm still learning my way...
I may be missing out on some quality because I didnt choose a higher res, but how did you remove the ISO noise? I also have a T3i and idk how to combat that problem. How did you?
@sayrith U need to reduce your f stop. he is using f/1.8. That is a lens that is capable of that f stop ratio. Noise gets eliminated by more solid signal (that is light)
how can he get to f/1.8, i looked up all those lenses and they only go down to f/3.5. Does he just use super lenses or is there a way to go down further? I have low light / grain issues all the time and i use a cannon 70-300 f/4 and 28-135 f/3.5 answer much appreciated!
I have T3i. but there is a lot of color noise and color grain in my night video shots. how could you did shot noiseless. iso1600, what are the other settings for ideal low light video.
I get many tiny red horizontal lines during low lite video shooting. Even in room lightning conditions I get them ... Camera body 550D, lens EF 50 mm f/1.8. Is it body problem or lens ? or i something other ? pls help.
@meem0o0o eos 550d. the same but cheaper. 600 d is better in video shooting (just a little bit). Image sensors, processors and etc are the same. then why pay more ? and don't buy kit lens. they suck. Or if you wanna buy, make sure to get other lens. My advice: canon eos kiss x4 (japanese version of 550d, cheaper 50$) + EF 50mm f/1.8 + Kit lense. Will cost you nearly 810$ on ebay. (kit lense isn't important)
I have a camera, which i use to record rappers from the UK, but when i record HD videos it picks up a lot of static and background noise... i was just wondering if this camera did the same?
quick question need a reply asap... ok, i've got the 600d, i can record half hour videos in ow quality but only 8-10 in high quality i want to record longer in the high quality, is it the memory card? i have a 42g one if so, do i need a higher memory?
how do you make it so the dark area don't look so grainy. I just bought the camera and only have the 18-55mm lens. Is it the lens that makes the darks not ugly? or is it adjusted in the cameras settings.
@dodgesxt 600D will NOT show that well in a nightclub scene without some decent lighting, and even then the shadow's won't come up so well. Don't get me wrong I have a 600D and it's a great bit of kit but there are limitations. It's all about how much detail you want and also what lens you use. A 5D mkii will obviously work a bit better in low light but you pay for that.
This will always be my favourite Canon video on youtube, such inspiration can come from watching this, it made me buy the camera straight away after watching it
Just after a little advice guys, do you think it is worth me selling my Sony A1E camcorder to replace it with a DSLR? Also as a videographer would the Canon 600d be a good choice or somthing more expensive like a Canon 500dmk2?
@raduz123 Did you mean the 5D mkii? If so then yes the 5D is a better camera but bargain for bucks the 600D is not far behind, just have to accept it's limitations
I can't wait for cell phones to get to this quality in the future. : ) Anything is possible. (Next year they'll have phones with 10 to 12 megapixel cameras that record at 1080p at 60 fps. That's so insane and awesome. It's all about the lenses though.
@koonsnoonpair He is referring to the lens' sensitivity to light. If he is using a "fast" lens then in lower light situations a lot more information is going to hit the image sensor. Also the glass that is used in the lens can greatly affect the quality of the image if it is high quality glass. Low quality glass makes a lower quality image.
how did you get it to be so bright for what it is? because i have used the kit lens and also the 50mm f/1.8 and still the same...editing software to enhance it or?
@BasickMusic So the Canon T3i is good? I'm searching around for what I hope will be my first-ever DSLR camera. I'm excited, but I'm also very, very hesitant and cautious. I have no idea what to do. :-( People say it's all about personal taste and how it feels in your hands, but I don't really have any stores nearby to hold cameras or mess with them....
@fencheijanisch could you approve my video response? its a video i made with some of my latest light-painting and low light photography shots. i hope you'll like it, cheers!
I know it's not ideal, but you should really just save up for the 600D. The 1100D isn't as good of a deal for the money, and most lenses of any quality you'd buy for it would push you into the 600D's price range anyway.
As an alternative, you could consider getting a 550D, since they're extremely similar in features to the 600D, but are a lot less money since they're an old model. The image quality should be the same, at least.
Love the video!

Don't get me wrong I have a 600D and it's a great bit of kit but there are limitations. It's all about how much detail you want and also what lens you use. A 5D mkii will obviously work a bit better in low light but you pay for that.

Just after a little advice guys, do you think it is worth me selling my Sony A1E camcorder to replace it with a DSLR? Also as a videographer would the Canon 600d be a good choice or somthing more expensive like a Canon 500dmk2?
raduz123 4 months ago
@raduz123 Did you mean the 5D mkii? If so then yes the 5D is a better camera but bargain for bucks the 600D is not far behind, just have to accept it's limitations

I can't wait for cell phones to get to this quality in the future. : ) Anything is possible. (Next year they'll have phones with 10 to 12 megapixel cameras that record at 1080p at 60 fps. That's so insane and awesome. It's all about the lenses though.

@DBOWSHIER I rather spend those extra $100 toward lenses!
Shushu2109 5 months ago
This all depends on what lenses are you using though..
ImagineNowEntertnmnt 5 months ago 28
@ImagineNowEntertnmnt does the lens u use effect the video quality and if so why does it do that.
koonsnoonpair 4 months ago
@koonsnoonpair He is referring to the lens' sensitivity to light. If he is using a "fast" lens then in lower light situations a lot more information is going to hit the image sensor. Also the glass that is used in the lens can greatly affect the quality of the image if it is high quality glass. Low quality glass makes a lower quality image.

@mrbobdog707 I held to my word from a week ago, and sure enough, I did buy the camera!
I'm LOVING it so far; I've taken a handful of photos, and did a few videos for a local band's live show.
The quality is outstanding!
Throw me a message, and we can discuss! =)

wojtas2524 3 months ago
@wojtas2524 I've been a proud owner of a Canon T3i for a month now =)
BasickMusic 3 months ago
@BasickMusic So the Canon T3i is good? I'm searching around for what I hope will be my first-ever DSLR camera. I'm excited, but I'm also very, very hesitant and cautious. I have no idea what to do. :-( People say it's all about personal taste and how it feels in your hands, but I don't really have any stores nearby to hold cameras or mess with them....

The timelapse stuff is done with stills. There is less noise at higher isos with stills

i want a 600D but my budget is only for 1100D *sniff*
if i buy 1100D with better lense, would it help?
i wanna use DSLR for cinematography
petpetrara 5 months ago
@petpetrara
MishtahPoog 5 months ago
@petpetrara save up for the 600D, its worth it
