What's left when you don't take into account all the core stuff? You have the Thrash groups "who copy old school thrash" The Doom groups "who copy old school doom" etc

So, when taking into account new metal, the only thing you can consider listening to is either shitty core bands or bands who play a certain oldschool genre. There's not much reinventing of the wheel, and I think Ghost has came pretty close to reinventing it.

I remember three years ago when I went to see Metallica in KS Down was an opener. Down introduced themselves as a band that likes to play "slow and heavy". Well, after three years of not listening to Down (or giving them a single thought) - and now "rediscovering" them. I can say they are doing it wrong. Slow and heavy is Electric Wizard, Sleep, Dopefight, etc. Real Sludge and Doom bands.

The reason there is so much hype is because of the publicity and endorsement they've gotten from Phil, Fenriz & James Hetfield. Those 3 men have a major influence on a lot of people in the Metal community. They hype Ghost because Ghost sounds like Black Sabbath, Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult & Pentagram in a blender. Those are 4 bands that all 3 of those guys grew up listening to. btw check out their lyrics. good stuff.
