I guess the girl that used to be his friend doesn't want to have anything to do with him. The close translation to this song: This where our story ends. Never lovers, ever friends. Let our hearts call it a day. But before you walk away. I sincerely want to say. I wish you bluebirds in the spring. To give your heart a song to sing. And then a kiss but more than this. I wish you love....and so on
Or the other way around perhaps? There is no such a thing as tealing in music. People re-interpret other people's work. Musicians are a sharing bunch.
@king5ley "Bien chanté" could you say. "Bon" is more for food or when you have some pleasure. And you would say "c'est bon" et not just "bon". Anyway this is great that you try to speak some french (and excuse my english if he's not good ^^ )

Thank you so much for the translation of this song! I had a general idea of what the words meant, but since I'm just beginning to learn French, this really helped me to understand just how beautiful the song really is =)

My breaking heart and I agree That you and I could never be So with my best, my very best I set you free I wish you shelter from the storm A cozy fire to keep you warm But most of all When snowflakes fall I wish you love I wish you shelter from the storm A cozy fire to keep you warm But most of all When snowflakes fall I wish you love

There is a very famous English version that was very popular by Gloria Lynne, and it's called I WISH YOU LOVE. It is a beautiful son, the same in English as in French. My favorite is by Gloria Lynne.
Dear Politeama....Oh, THANK YOU for that great tidbit of information (and oh, how I love tidbits!). Off to Amazon with me! And, I love to learn of yet another wonderful singer.
You are very welcome! I am pretty young, but like you I am always learning about new singers, performers, movies, etc. In my house my parents always played all kind of music and this is a song that I love very much. And you hear Miss Lynne, oh! she is one of a kind singer. My very favorite singer.
Oh, good! Learning new things will KEEP you young! Thank you for this....my new fave, too! What a big, glorious woman! Robust voice combined with sparkle and charm. What's not to like. Thank you, Politeama!
This evening, the wind knocks on my door and speaks about gone loves In front of the ceasing fire This evening it's a song of the autumn In the freezing house And I think about gone days What is left of our loves What is left of those beautiful days a picture an old picture of my youth What is left from those sweet love letters Months of April and dates a memory haunting me Continuously
Withered luck, hair in the wind Stolen kisses, moving dreams What is left of all these Say it to me A small village an old belfry A well hidden landscape And in a cloud the beloved face Of My Past Words, tender words one whispers The purest caresses The vows in the deepest forrest The flowers you find in a book Of which the perfume makes you high Are gone, why?
Oh, thank you so much for that translation. Due to four years of Latin in school (back when dinosaurs ruled the earth), I could listen to the song, and read your translation, and understand the corresponding words in French. Merci! Merci!
Sorry for bothering you again! I might be wrong, but doesn't "baisers voles, reves mouvants" translate to "flown kisses, moving dreams"? At least literally. I haven't heard these expressions before so maybe they're idioms for stolen kisses and touching dreams, I don't know.
no problem-the verb voler means to steal OR to fly-possibly because stolen things just fly away! In Catalan voler as a noun means willingness or desire and as a verb means to want or merit. mouvant here means, i think, emotionally moving or "touching" but could mean unsettled/changing/restless or drifting as Brassens66 chooses to translate it. translation is complicated and fun and somewhat open to interpretation.
Assignations isn't a good word for rendez-vous... It's not a word used a lot in English. English-speaking people have adopted the word rendez-vous and usually will understand it if you use it. =)
an interesting idea-however i think the word assignation conveys the secret shared spicy excitement of an anticipated love meeting and in english rendezvous is closer to just turning up ! Maybe "tryst" would be a happy compromiseThank you for consideration
I think he might have made the original recording that he is playing now. I used to hear this played in some little bistros in New Orleans in the 1950s but never knew before who sang it before.Nice video and music.

tonight the wind that knocks at my door speaks to me of old loves in front of the dying fire,
tonight is an autumn song in the quivering house and i think of far off days:
what remains of our loves?
what remains of its sunny days?
-a photo, and old photo of my youth
what remains of the love letters, the april months, the assignations?
-a memory that haunts me still
- faded happiness, stolen kisses, touching dreams,
what remains of all that -tell me
a tiny village, an old steeple-contd.

faded happiness,wind blown hair,stolen kisses,touching dreams,
what remains of all that -tell me
a tiny village,an old steeple, a well hidden landscape, and in a cloud the beloved face of my yesterday.

What a handsome guy!
I think he might have made the original recording that he is playing now. I used to hear this played in some little bistros in New Orleans in the 1950s but never knew before who sang it before.Nice video and music.
