  • I see Chiana in your screen!! what is that from?

  • @kisushiyouka It was a DVD box set setting on the counter I took a picture of for no reason (lol) I think I posted a video up of the box set on this channel just search farscape on my channel

  • I love the video! I'm going to save this as a favorite so I can fix my nex-3 later on.

One thing though, I've always heard from people that you should never use paper products on lens, screens, etc. A clean cotton cloth is much nicer for that...

  • Good video and should be helpful for many. I think the better option than the extended warranty would be to use a screen protector from the get go. I used one of my iPhone 4 screen protectors bought off eBay (usually about $3 for 10) and cut it to size for my NEX-5N. You could also just buy the dedicated NEX-5N screen protector on eBay if your not neat with scissors/guillotine but I'm making the assumption most people have a smart phone thus also have a few spare SP's laying around.

  • @psychcisco Not a bad Idea. If I get the nex5n or nex7 I will probably do that

  • Sony wants to charge you $200 to do what you just did in 3 minutes?

  • @NINJAX2X2X Well I think they were going to replace the whole screen or yeah maybe replace the layer with the original style material they use which would be a 3 minute job and just bubble up again in a year (lol)

  • Nice one, mate!!! I came to this video from a link you left on the photoclubalpha site. This has given me the courage to go for it and make the fix on my nex-3 as well. Thank you so much!

  • @kevspivey Cool Im glad the link worked, I tried to go back to all the sites I was getting when I was searching for a solution since some of them helped I just wanted to help back.

  • Does this glass affect the touch functionality at all?

  • @jlouwes It would effect the toch screen if it was a touch screen. the nex5 isnt touch, I think the nex5n may be touch and yes I believe the glass would make it not function, I put the glass over my Iphone just to be sure and the iphone touch wont work. the glass is too thick I think. The may7 sell a alternative but make sure you ask the seller if it will work with touch screens

  • THANK YOU!!! REALLY!!!

  • @GiAngelos Hey no problem, thanks for posting :-)

  • Hey thanks for uploading this helpful video! I have the nex 5. But I don't have this problem! Not yet thanks god!! Lol I have less than a year with the nex 5! I really love this camera!!! I recommend you to get the Minolta MD lens!! Is really good in quality and it cost me 40 dollar on eBay! If you want you can see the video that I record with my nex 5 with the Minolta 50mm lens! Thanks!!

  • Nice one for uploading this mate, i've had the protector glass I bought off ebay for a while now but haven't had the balls to lash it on in fear of damaging my screen! This has finally gave me the confidence to get it on.

  • @BraddersBranning Cool. Im glad it helped. I was scared too after looking at a article showing how to do it... I wanted to see it being done on video (lol) so I figure if I could have used it to help with the fear maybe someone else could so Im glad it helped :-)

  • Beware as removing the orange sticker Sony puts on the touch panel/LCD can remove the LCD screen coating when you remove it. Sony is aware of this but isn't making any public announcements warning consumers to beware, nor are they changing their practice of applying this sticker onto the screen for marketing purposes with the new cameras in the box.

  • @KyriosIasonas Thats good to know, I wouldnt recommend messing with the touch screens anyway as the glass will hinder the touch function but yeah hopefully they redesign these

  • Wondering whether the new NEX5N will have the same issue.

  • @halo2pc I didnt read anywhere saying it was a new lcd so I would expect it to have the same problem for some. I dont know for sure though and since its still new people probably have not had and used theirs long enough to see the issue.

  • thanks for the info. i thought i was a dirty old man but turns out sony made a shitty product

  • Many thanks for posting. I was beginning to think I was a freak to get my screen so blotchy and dirty. I took it to Ritz camera and they said there was no screen protector on and that I must have dropped something on it. I was horrified. I came home, searched the net, saw what you and some others had done. I set about unpeeling and it went exactly as your video. I now have a very clean view and am waiting for the new screen protector to arrive.

  • @poogymom Hey Im glad it helped. Thats the main reason i posted the video because when mine went bad I was freaking out (lol) and I would have loved to see a video of how easy it was, it would have calmed me down a bit if nothing else.

Thanks for taking the time to let me know :-)

  • I've never had a problem with any of my Sony products and their reaction to my LCD problem really impressed my. That said, thanks for the video; for those in countries where Sony isn't as nice as here, it's a cheap and seemingly efficient fix. Thank you

  • Sony Australia has replaced the LCD Screen on my NEX-5 free under Warranty even though it was 5 months out of warranty

  • @wjburt3002 That was nice of them, I guess Sony US isnt as nice (lol) just from where Im standing Sony US doesnt back the customers as I would think they would.

  • I was wincing as you were peeling back the sony covering. It really sucks that after paying for such an expensive item that one then has to perform surgery on it only a year later. Do you think the damage caused to the screen could have been avoided by using a protective glass or plastic covering from the start?

  • @elementlead1 Hey thanks I was a bit scared too, I didn't know how it would go but I was luck to have seen a article on doing it but no video showing the process so yeah I was a bit apprehensive (lol) My theory is that it was caused by heat, sunlight etc as we had gone to the beach and I use the camera allot, with that said though none of my other cameras have ever done this so its still a bum deal but Im thankful it only cost me around 8 dollars to fix.

  • my dad has this problem, thansk for the help!

  • @hurricaneofizzy No problem, I hope it helps.
