i just installed some new subs and a new 1000wtt mono amp and for some reason my aftermarket stereo has started to go static sometimes its so bad i cant understand what im listening to.My stereo never once gave me a problem until now. Could it be that my ground isnt on right or if thats not it what other things could it be.
Plzzz help me!!! i have a VR3 400watt amp and a SDX-audio sub... everytime u turn my car on a red light comes on istead of a green one!!! idk if i need a bigger ground or what? maybe a bigger power cable, i just know i am about to give up any help will be GREATLY appriciated!!! (i have a nissan 240sx)
@EverydayAvenged1 Use a volt meter to check voltage (Maybe you need a new battery) Check your fuses as well. If not ask a ProAudio Store im sure they'd be happy to help :D
@EverydayAvenged1 Red light is your amp going into protect mode. There are a few reasons this may be happening - Poor ground, power surge, incorrect fuse, poor power cable or could even be the amp is faulty (this was the reason my last one wouldnt come out of protect). Borrow a friends amp or put your amps in a friends car to rule out the amp/connections.
best place to ground u amps to is the strut tower in the rear and under the bonnet under one of the bolts just remove the paint first and to the engine the strut towers are connected the the thicker part of shazy witch will allow better transfer in stead of through thin sheat metal thats tacked togeather and spot welded
i need help. no amp will turn on in my car unless i bridge power from the power input to the remote input on the amp. all my connections are solid, and ive checked them 5 times over. everything worked fine for the first month and then it quit. now i cant find a solution. please help or offer advice? thanks
Wouldn't one screw and a washer make a much cleaner non fucking retarded looking installation? Sure ground is important your right, but your a fucking idiot. 3 screws really?
Can i run the ground wire from my amp to the capacitor with other side to the chassis. Basically, what i am asking is isn't that considered grounding both together? Is that okay though? Thanks
the best ground you can do is to attach your battery ground under the hood straight to the alternator body and run another ground all the way back to your amp from the neg post of the front battery. steel has alot of resistence so it is not as effective as copper as a conductor. whatever size your power wire is, use the same for the ground run. the alternator casing is the absolute ground for you car, not the chassis.
Was this guy an irish? Does he know any more weird things to do? who drills holes in the car just to ground amp? and even three times fuck sake dumb man. Maybe next time weld it somewhere. thats the best solid connection then will be.
@MarQuisHunter1 in stead of shorting it out and ruining your amp the electricty will pass through the ground wire (if something goes wrong) and into the metal of the car and out not damaging anything
You can verify that you are not drilling into anything important my getting a punch and hitting the area with a hammer, and if possible, feel underneath.
Thanks, i been wondering why my ground hasn't been working. I thought I was using the wrong size coffee can or dirt. I even switch to potting soil and my amp didn't turn on.
that was awful. you want it to be grounded to the frame of the car, so like in the trunk you can use the strut tower. that would be much better. you got zero gauge wire which is good, so do it right. not that dinky little screw or screws. ground to the frame of the car.....
@toxicsask I drilled a hole through my car, and drilled a 1/2 inch hole through my frame and connected them to the fram with a 5 inch bolt, its on there so tight, and I got to bare metal, there is nothing better then my ground, it is the heart of my vehicle, I didnt want to deal with this seatbelt shit where its iffy, I used 4 giant washers, 2 spring washers, and a lock nut

Nice hack job on that ground! Although I'm not suprised to see this coming from ED. Going to a seat belt mounting bolt or seat frame bolt would have been a much better high current connection that that worthless sheet metal ground. If your screwing high current 0ga to sheet metal you need to stop what your doing, sell all your tools and pay someone that knows what they are doing. ED is CLEARLY not the place to get quality work done, unless you love Best Buy grade hack and slash installs.
@rebel4055, I'd bet if you did, it would be a better gound than what's in this joke of a "how too ground the proper way" video... No doubt.
AND it would be a better thought out & quality installation than the work done by these Best Buy rejects.
It's funny they actually posted this vid in all seriousness. Goes to show what kinda company Elemental Designs is. Hackers with expensive sub par equipment.
"Do not ground your amp with screws" this guy is retarded, bolt the ground to clean metal, and look before you drill, the seat belt bolt is a great spot if you clean all the paint off
if i had my amp and sub installed by best buy should i be good and what would i do if i wanted to change everything like a new amp and three subs am i gong to need all new wiring please help
Some of those best buy installers don't even know how to wire a woofer for corect ohm ... But if your worried about the wiring just trace the wires back and see what kind of job they did .
the way i go it is i grind tha paint on both sid's of the metal them with a 1" bolt put it thro the top and on the bottom under the car/truck another 0awg from ther to the frame so it gose from the frame to the bolt to the amp ground on the other side
I agree, the seat belt bolt does most likelt meet up with the chassis. I would think the better place though is a ground connected directly to the chassis is best.
The seatbelt nut is the best possible ground connection because it is welded to the chassis, and you can tighten the bolt with more force than you would do with screws and a electric screwdriver.
i have a truck an the red light protection mode comes on but when i try to ground it to somthing metal that light would come on again or no light would come on, i tired grounding it to the seat belt it work for a little while then just stopan i tired grounding it to the frame an tht did not work wht do u think i should do or get, needed help, cant bump?

Fuck i learned the hard way. I accidentally drilled a hole into my gas tank but i had it repaired. He states in the video not to use a seat belt bolt but i just cleaned the paint around it and put my grounding there. Check my vid out.
hey i have a sony 1500 watt amp with 2 12" subs and the little red protection light goes on in the amp when i hold a ground wire down. NO matter wat ground i use the red light stays on causing the subs not to work.? Do i need a new amp or somthing?
bolt your ground wire in not hold it down...if you still get protection mode light check your terminals make sure all your wires are clean in the crimps and no stray strands of wire are misplaced from your ground, Battery positive and your Remote in
also check to make sure that your not using a cable coming from the positive side of the battery that is rated over the wattage of the amp, i see people do that alot
If the ground is poor, commonly the first symptom will be clipping/distortion. Many amplifiers will return to protect mode when a large current is required.
I agree with everyone the installer guy is not using our perferred methods that work. I am not for sure but it might be how he has to do it to keep the boss man at bay but if I was the customer I could have a damage claim and an ass chew'n for the boss man to pay for damages.
No, you can not just use any bolt. If you do not have a good chasis ground, then your amp could overheat, you could have voltage issues, or unwanted sound interferance. If you want these things to happen, then go ahead and use a seatbelt bolt as a ground.

That's just a example of where to do it in this car. It will not work in every single vehicle. Make sure your not drilling into anything that is going to hurt the vehicle :)
This guy is a joker!First off what the hell is wrong with a seat bolt. That is already a good ground.Second off if your running that big of wire you you need to bolt it down. What is up with the 17 screws on the connection. Can they not afford lock washers.Stay away from these guysUnless you want your shit destroyed.
seat belt bolts are perfect to use as a ground. seat belt bolt mounts are engineered to take years and years of tugging. second, do as the guy up top did and sand it down, besides you'll have to do it anyway.
i did the installtion myself for my car what i did was on the trunk bar there was holes so i got a nut n bolt and i screwed it in, i dont know why people pay close to 100 dollars for something they can do on there own. i even installed the remote turn on .
now at which point did you mention to check if you are drilling into the gas tank or a wire behind the sheet metal??? FOR WHOEVER CARES, ALWAYS CHECK WHAT YOU ARE DRILLING INTO! AND ALSO WHATS BEHIND IT!
what i have to do if i have 2 amps and i want to use both in my car but i have only 1 pair RCA cables coming from radio. how can i use then both amps? does both amps work if i connect RCA cabels from radio to first amp input and other RCA cables from first amp output to second amp input?
Screwing an earth terminal down like this isn't the best way to do it either. I have actually gone the extra mile with my installations and actually mounted a proper earthing post and used conductive paste (used in a lot of electrical applications) to create a better earth. Use decent nuts too as well as flat, star, and spring washers to ensure a better connection.
actually if you think you need a capacitor(dimming headlights, etc.)before you add another battery you should upgrade your wiring and invest in a H.O alternator. Adding another battery is just putting more strain on an already overloaded charging system, and not the best remedy for the problem.
So many people upgrade with large caps and batteries when they still have the stock engine grounding system. Most factory cars are rolled off with just a few 16-10 gauge grounding cables from the block to the body. This should be the first upgrade in any audio installation.
As for using the seat belt bolt. I am running about 1.8kw rms and have no issue what so ever. I have also tested the system with an oscilloscope (CRO) to check the sine wave. Theres no evidence of a problem yet
caps dont add more voltage, they just stiffen up the line so your amp can make a big hit and not have to suck the power down a wire like a little straw... caps can discharge a hell of alot faster than a battery. honestly a cap is better than a battery to stiffen up the bass hits.
if you have 1 battery and want to add more, adding a bateery does not allow more power, it just allows longer running time without turning on the car. So i suggest any1 wiwwht a system from 500-1000 watts + to get a capacitor hope this helped !
if you have more than one amp, and for example they are about 600 watts each. Run a 0 or 1 gauge to the back, get a fuse box or a distibution block, from there it splits from 0/1 to 4 and 8 gauge which can be run to amps. If you have a setup like that dont forget a capacitor!
If you use multiple amps, can they all be wired to the car battery or do you need more batteries? And if you need more batteries, how do you link them up so they are charged? cheers
lol @ my buddy grounding his amp to plastic...wire touches a screw.. thats all.. then he wonders why it sounds like ass.. "oh maybe i better get a new car"
i just installed some new subs and a new 1000wtt mono amp and for some reason my aftermarket stereo has started to go static sometimes its so bad i cant understand what im listening to.My stereo never once gave me a problem until now. Actually your right. I've asked 20 different people about this. Don't do this on your car.

*dzzzzz* through the gas tank.. oops *BOOOMM* loll.
triangleround 3 years ago
That's just a example of where to do it in this car. It will not work in every single vehicle. Make sure your not drilling into anything that is going to hurt the vehicle :)
elementaldesigns 3 years ago
what vehicle is that in?
DrEVOIII 3 years ago
like the gas tank or gas line

if you smell feul its just a leak meaning you cant fill your car up to the top every time

This guy is a joker!First off what the hell is wrong with a seat bolt. That is already a good ground.Second off if your running that big of wire you you need to bolt it down. What is up with the 17 screws on the connection. Can they not afford lock washers.Stay away from these guysUnless you want your shit destroyed.
baggedout81 3 years ago 8
your an idiot.
seat belt mounts get tugged at. they have paint underneeth them from when the car was sprayed. then asembled.
flyingears2002 3 years ago
seat belt bolts are perfect to use as a ground. seat belt bolt mounts are engineered to take years and years of tugging. second, do as the guy up top did and sand it down, besides you'll have to do it anyway.

i did the installtion myself for my car what i did was on the trunk bar there was holes so i got a nut n bolt and i screwed it in, i dont know why people pay close to 100 dollars for something they can do on there own. i even installed the remote turn on .
Jplatano87 3 years ago 2
i did the same thing but below the trunk arm, scraped off some paint and i was good..

put some elbow grease into that drillin monkey!
alannn02 3 years ago
now at which point did you mention to check if you are drilling into the gas tank or a wire behind the sheet metal??? FOR WHOEVER CARES, ALWAYS CHECK WHAT YOU ARE DRILLING INTO! AND ALSO WHATS BEHIND IT!

what i have to do if i have 2 amps and i want to use both in my car but i have only 1 pair RCA cables coming from radio. how can i use then both amps? does both amps work if i connect RCA cabels from radio to first amp input and other RCA cables from first amp output to second amp input?

where to connect ground at home?
ymca122333 4 years ago
if you are using a convetor get the ground that comes with it the possitive
classicsanchez09 4 years ago
Screwing an earth terminal down like this isn't the best way to do it either. I have actually gone the extra mile with my installations and actually mounted a proper earthing post and used conductive paste (used in a lot of electrical applications) to create a better earth. Use decent nuts too as well as flat, star, and spring washers to ensure a better connection.

well.. if you are a profesional installer you should know almost every car and know that there's nothing behind that metal.. and
601176005 isnt what your saying the same thing that he did? its still the floor
23lebron23ricako 4 years ago
and at what point did the installer check what was behind the metal?? mmm

I would never use screws in my opinion!
I did the same (grinded of paint) but then drilled a hole through the floor and bolted it through.
601176005 4 years ago
That was pretty crappy. Lockwashers on the screw do a better job than three holes in the floor! Cheaper, too.

hey can you guys show a video on how to hook up an extra battery as well as a cap
mybassislouderthanu 4 years ago
actually if you think you need a capacitor(dimming headlights, etc.)before you add another battery you should upgrade your wiring and invest in a H.O alternator. Adding another battery is just putting more strain on an already overloaded charging system, and not the best remedy for the problem.
faircloth5150 3 years ago
Very true!
Sethjxl 2 years ago
please do not get a cap. Add a second battery for best results.
elementaldesigns 4 years ago
caps dont add more voltage, they just stiffen up the line so your amp can make a big hit and not have to suck the power down a wire like a little straw... caps can discharge a hell of alot faster than a battery. honestly a cap is better than a battery to stiffen up the bass hits.
donflannery 3 years ago
How many songs have only one big beat? Your cap wont hold much of any storage for amps. I'll use on on my head unit, but pointless for amps.
But blow your money away.
TheInstinctz 3 years ago 3
if you have 1 battery and want to add more, adding a bateery does not allow more power, it just allows longer running time without turning on the car. So i suggest any1 wiwwht a system from 500-1000 watts + to get a capacitor hope this helped !
paintballer1414 4 years ago
if you have more than one amp, and for example they are about 600 watts each. Run a 0 or 1 gauge to the back, get a fuse box or a distibution block, from there it splits from 0/1 to 4 and 8 gauge which can be run to amps. If you have a setup like that dont forget a capacitor!
paintballer1414 4 years ago
keep these typa how u do shit vids comin..great work!!! :)
quietstorm666 4 years ago
will do :)
elementaldesigns 4 years ago
If you use multiple amps, can they all be wired to the car battery or do you need more batteries? And if you need more batteries, how do you link them up so they are charged? cheers
fuckitdoit 4 years ago
How did you manage to screw straight through the car floor? lol
fuckitdoit 4 years ago
self tapping screws my friend. 641.792.2501 has the goods.
