  • hola :)

  • Ton Koopman is Dutch!! Thumps up if you like the Netherlands or if you're Dutch!! :3

  • Busdriver- Imaginary Places

  • This is the best version of this piece far above German or English versions of it. Germans tend to play Bach too fast, stiff and soulless and Britons are too classical to being able to understand baroque music. There is also a great Jordi Savall's orchestra version of it.

  • mejor la pornchestra ;)

  • These guys are awfully dressed-up to play a song whose title means "goofing around."

  • Tori Black brought me here...just saying

  • /watch?v=hWhLUfvRHBc (Y)

  • pornchestra!

  • @justbill86 jajajajajajaja buen comentario jajajaja XD

  • Check out the "Pornchestra" with Tori Black hahahahaha

  • In ancient German, "Badinerie" means "Bad-assery".

  • @LFCzeppelin8 This suite is in the manner of a French Ouverture. All the movements have French, not German, titles. "Badinerie" is related to the French word "badinage" used in English to mean playful repartee or banter.

  • @1banders Thanks for the edification! I hastily assumed that, since Bach was German, the title was in German.

I'm British but in Shanghai atm, and listening to Bach is my only refuge from the crazy streets. It's an audio bubble of bliss.

  • sooo familiar...

  • The first instrument capable of dynamics was the clavicorde!

  • most difficult flute part of all the suite's movements, and well done!

  • @S0ulB Yes it is. But this is a cover, right ?

  • its very very very nice to heard music for the instuments who herad the composer when he wrote music

  • @skarlatospanagiotis Ton Koopman isn't that old

  • I did not mean edition in this very case, but in continuo-dynamics

  • In Continuo playing you can make thin stuff and it is not so loud. Perhaps harpicord player uses edition notation where stuff is already written out? Continuo player can play only one note: bass. And make dynamics, ha

  • Way too fast

  • why is it Bb minor here? shouldn't it be B Minor?

  • @S0ulB it might be because in german B is B flat and H is B natural so they might have thought it was b flat but then if i think about it the score should say what the key signature is ummm sorry i dont have a clue why its in b flat

  • @S0ulB It's just the tuning :)

  • The piano was preceded by the clavichord, which had full dynamics but wasn't loud enough to be used for a public performance.

  • Esta es una definicion del Barroco.

This is a real baroque definition

  • Love the miniature... piano thing.

  • perfect...

  • la prima suoneria della nokia!

  • what brand flute are you playing... love it...

  • one word: WOW.

  • Greatest piece of music ever!!!

  • With Freud on the keys and a compact bunch of devoted musicians: Top notch!

  • very impressed. awsome job. sounds perfect and fancy

  • 0:00

  • That's why I'm so proud to be a Dutchman! Yes, this man is Dutch! I'm play the flute for one year now and the flute is an amazing instrument! 23 people are just jealous!

Thumbs up for the Dutch people, people who plays an instrument and how like this music!

  • One of my favorite musicals.

  • TAlento Musicaal! ♪

  • no comment ( i love it )

  • Lenin playing the flute ... weird ... :D

  • @letarsier59 And Gorbatchov playing cello...

  • @letarsier59

So you don't know Hazelzet, and you don't like period instrumentaions.

    That's indeed a shame.

  • gee wiz what kind of flute is he using? that GORGEOUS!

  • @XxLongLiveEdwardxX He plays the "Flauto Traverso".

  • 23 dislikes are idiots.

  • This is rock and roll for classical music!

  • I'm here because the 4th Doctor played this on his reed flute in "The Power of the Kroll": beautiful piece.

  • 23 people never had a Nokia!^^

  • I love the harpsichord!

  • Oh my God!!!!! Is absolutely fantastic! Congratulations!!! Bach was really a big genious!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I heard the Suite one week ago in a concert.

    I prefer the version here!

Though fast-played, there's no stress, unspectactular playing, excellent!

  • I love this version! Please tell me what you think about my version. Thanks!

    watch?v=VjsJAyPDf1k

  • i like Ton Koopman's harpsichord

  • LOL same flute as in imaginary places - busdriver

  • @andollio1337 yes this is the sample from.

  • So is this the way it was ACTUALLY meant to sound? How do you determine the style of something done over 300+ years ago?

  • @tristan01101 from secondary sources.. ie. 18th century writings about a musical performance.. or methods published in 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Or just studying the music.. there is a logic why a musicians plays like he/she does.

So yes and no. But maybe it was something like this :P. The point might be that it should SOUND convincing.

  • Busdriver - imaginary places :D

  • I'm just here to hold your hand when you die.

  • is this a full size baroque orchestra?

  • @violinistx100 how to determine a full size baroque orchestra.. there are many sizes, usually descripted in the (printed/written) music that how many of which instrument should be present in the performance. From some literary sources I would remember a range of some ~3-100 (or more) musicians depending on how much money the one (noble/church) paying the musicians had and wanted to spend on music.

  • @Narriz oh, ok! Thanks :)

  • I just wanna hold your hand when ya die...

  • I really love how haunting the acoustics make this performance.

  • Hard Core!

  • @minasgekos The harpsichord player has no control over volume, as all the strings are plucked at the same velocity due to the mechanics of the harpsichord. The first dynamics-capable keyboard instrument was the piano.

  • @MCMorrise you are correct, the harpsichord has no inherent dynamic control - unless you have a double manual instrument - which Ton does not have here. However, we can fake a lot of dynamics and depending on you capabilities, quite successfully too! Don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but I think you'll find that it was indeed the Clavichord which has a wide range of dynamic control as well as a technique called "Bebund" - a vibrato!

    Best wishes,

    Anthony

  • @MCMorrise on a second glance - it is a double manual harpsichord, whoops!

  • @2880aham Oh yes, I did forget the clavichord ... oops! :)

  • @MCMorrise and that is why the piano's original name was PianoForte, because it could play both Piano and Forte

  • @sigsoundfan Which, as we all know, derives from the Italian clavicembalo col piano e forte - literally, harpsichord with soft and loud.

  • @MCMorrise clavichord...dynamics from FFF to PPP, all within the realm of pianissimo.

  • @fagottehautboy The clavichord was already mentioned by @2880aham in the comments 3 months ago ...

  • @MCMorrise my bad, i'll be sure to go back through the comment thread with a fine-toothed comb next time before i even think about trolling on youtube.

  • @fagottehautboy Well, if you're commenting on something that was done 2 months ago, expect it to be replied to already. What I normally do before I reply to someone is that I look at their name, press view all comments, then ctrl+f, type their name, find their comment, and woolah! Now you're able to see if there has been anybody who commented to him or her yet! And to see any arguments people may or may not be having. It's really rather easy, and it saves lots of time too.

  • @MCMorrise yes!...the "Piano" or "Piano forte" (full name) was the first keyboard dynamics intrument.

"Piano" (means soft in italian) "forte" (means hard in italian).

Nowadays we use the short common name "Piano"

  • @MCMorrise i think the first was the organ... but i dont know! =)

  • @MCMorrise Not true - the clavichord, for one, is capable of dynamic playing.

  • brilliantly executed

  • The Harpischordist was rockin' out there. :-)

  • Let's blame the sound engineer. Personally I feel the balance is good between Koopman's cembalo, the flute, and orchestra. @Eddissimo

  • imaginary places

  • the most beautiful work of JS Bach

  • is the flautist wilbert hazelzet?

  • @MsLomba94

    yes it is him. amazing...

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!! What Armony.... what Music!! this is musiC!!

  • the harpsichord have a problem...the sound always have the same force minasgekos then the player can´t regulate the sound

  • Comment removed

  • Harpsichord is too loud. He needs to press the keys lighter.

  • @ncotler

not quite how a harpsichord works, haha

  • @zhdtak :-p

  • @ncotler Harpsichords have no touch sensibillity like piano.

The forte or piano effect was gotten by dupplicating notes.

  • Is an wonderful performance! just amazing!

    I love this suite :)

  • which instrument he play ? is like a flute

  • @jejejerororo it's called a Fife. :)

  • @jejejerororo its a baroque flute

  • is an amazing preformance i have seen!!! about this, always there are people wanna make bad reviews"well done.!

  • I want to be that Harpsichord Player. 0_0

  • Great music !

  • What a nice rendition!!

  • This video and song is really good. I wish I could play that song.

  • Check out Busdriver's "Imaginary Places", a GOOD rapper who uses this quite nicely.

  • beautiful....

    congrats...and thanks.

  • The harpsichord is too loud within the ensemble :S

  • @bbussal oh great now we have a fucking music critic in out midst, stick to frying burgers in Mcdonalds why dont you?

  • Comment removed

  • @Vespasian12345 for some odd reason you think your opinion is superior to mine, I can think whatever I want, and can critique whomever I wish, failing to recognise that shows just how immature you are kiddo, and Mcdonald's burgers are grilled not fried.

  • Ton Koopman plays very well but he is a little bit bizzare

  • Simply AWESOME!! Any negative comments about this piece shows you know nothing about great Classical music. If you don't like the piece that's your right but to post STUPID negative comments only makes me want to punch you in the face.

  • @rhino2005 i know what you mean, i love all music from metal to classical to jazz but negative comments really bug me

  • @1963jpman Totally agree my asian friend

  • at 1:12 theres a C major arpeggio on the flute followed by B^C B^C, but in my score its written B^C #A^C... has anyone seen an score like that?

    also in the part from 0:06 to 0:10 he plays D^#C^D D^#C^D B but my score is written D D D D B, and ive seen people playing D^#C^D D D B (and thats how i play)

and everywhere you find that rhythm, the guy in the video plays the note, drops half tone and again the same note, while in the scores i have found, its a straight line with four notes.. what now?

  • those baroque flutes sound SOO GREAT!!

  • why?? why so fast?? let it flow, they should get a ticket for that

  • This song was playing in suicidemouse.avi backwards (piano version), and it sounded creepy >_<

  • Anyone know what DVD this performance is from? I would like to buy a copy!

  • This is classical music at it's best. No beating this.

  • Magnifique !!!

  • BAROQUE flute, no lip plate, so stop bitching the lot of you..... harder to play without a lip plate...

  • LISTEN TO THE HARPSICHORD!

  • @powerml2 Yngwie Malmsteen did a metal version of this ...maybe someone others did...but i know just his version

  • @Coui0112358 But I do not mean a whole cover, if not the first party to interpret a part of a song his own. I'm pretty sure it is a power metal band

    Thanks anyway

  • @powerml2 mago de oz creo

  • cool, my favorite song

  • Can't hear the flute!!!! Dx by the way, what kind of flute is that?

  • @bowlerhat347 its a baroque flute, yes its a strange flute because don´t has keys in the holes
