Creatures of Leisure? The Reg Mombassa style was already well developed by then. really clever animations. Forget digital stuff ; you had to be a real animator then with real skills. Great song.
When did the spirit get lost? sometime between the latish 70's and the early 80's?....Perhaps sometime after the death of Keith Moon, Terry Kath and John Bonham.
Of course I'm in America and my understanding is that they were somewhat biger in Austrailia, so I'm not realy certain. Anyway they've always been a pretty well-kept secret here in the states.
Mental As Anything toured the States during the early 80's and MTV did play their videos during its infant years. Their single 'If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?' is still a well-remembered pop tune over in the US, although I don't think it ever became a national hit. Although they had about 30 hit singles in Australia, the rest of the world considers them a one hit wonder due to their only international hit 'Live It Up'.
For every Men At Work, there were 25 bands better than them.
Of course if it didn'y happen in America it didn't happen at all did it Skulldini... lol wake up yank these guys might not have been a hit for the media-fed population of America but they were iconic for us here in Australia and had plenty of hits in our top "40". My only advise is expand your mind beyond the borders of your own country!!!
3vilJesus, I can see what you're saying, but I don't think Skulldini was implying that Mentals lack of US success dictates their level of quality. He did end his last line with 'but that's not really important, is it?'...
Mental AS Anything happened in the US on two separate occassions. They got play on MTV during the early 80's and managed to perform one song on Solid Gold. In the US, MAA were just another non-local act passing through.
love em seen then over 7 times lost count , even at the 2000 olympics
