Second, I agree Obama has no place talking directly to kids, but the victims here will be the schools and specifically the teachers. My child stays home because before, during and after the speech, teachers will be the ones discussing it and doing the lesson plans with our kids. At this point, the discussion is moved by "personal" opinion of the teacher, not me.

Some teachers are recording the speach to show at a later date. Also, they will be hanging pictures and messages on the walls written by the children, for future reference. Tuesday won't be the end of Obama's parade. I barely know what to do except to start homeschooling. That's definitely on my mind. We just have to teach our kids about politics, about Obama's plans for us, that he's crooked just like most people in our government. I am getting so sick of this.

Bubba, thanks for the video. Couple things....most people consider school to be child care and won't pull their kids out. Second, I agree Obama has no place talking directly to kids, but the victims here will be the schools and specifically the teachers. My child stays home because before, during and after the speech, teachers will be the ones discussing it and doing the lesson plans with our kids. At this point, the discussion is moved by "personal" opinion of the teacher, not me.

I must say this has gotten me going, that is to be sure. People certainly are quick to talk about manipulation, but to this point I can only find an ironic subplot to these continual posts. It is the equivalent of sending chain letters into the community telling people not to watch a movie, that has not even been released yet. If there is a method for educating the citizens, surely a better practice can be found then Pre-judgment.

So if someone wanted to show your child an R rated movie, and you didn't want him/her to see R rated movies, regardless of what they are, shouldn't that be your choice?? A lot of people don't want Obama's message to get through, regardless of what it is - they don't like him or who he associates with, they don't like what he's done or what he plans to do, and no sensible person would blame them for that.

But I'm not saying it shouldn't be my choice. That's for a different argument. I'm saying it is manipulative for others to tell me I have to choose before I view the movie myself. Certainly my decision making will not in any way be downsized by watching the movie. There is nothing to lose from it. If there is an opportunity to judge something before deciding whether my child has the maturity to judge it then...why not?

Well I don't know. I personally think that Obama has pulled so much crap that people just don't want to hear him anymore. He's shown himself to be woefully unprepared for the presidency and it's just one embarrassment after another. Plus it's so random that he just suddenly decides to address the school kids - I mean, it really seems like a ploy for approval ratings to me. Just my opinion, I don't like Obama, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Well his approval ratings are certainly at their lowest, but they started pretty high. I believe 55% currently approve of him.
I'm sure there's plenty of mindless meat puppets who refuse to judge him on anything but his smile, but as for myself I think the term "pinch of salt" is best served as the maximum amount of attention this "Obamas message to the schools" should ever get. At least until a text of what he is going to say is released.

It seems odd that the parents would send their kids to government schools if they feel that way, however. I don't know what the other options are, but parents should have a choice to send their kids to private schools instead of paying taxes to the thug-factories the public schools operate.

But isn't that just the other side of the argument from what I see now to be the general view on this video? You alluded earlier that the script will be released before it is shown in schools. Certainly everyone including yourself can be as passionately confident then. To be so now on the other hand, is certainly an unnecessary position to take.

The gist of the message is pro Obama..as are the trappings and "lesson plans" desiiminated for teachers to spend hours educating kids on how they can "help Obama". That is inappropriate in any US school system. Its like a 10 story picture of mao on the street. I know about the lesson plans because my wife is an 8th grade teacher who has the lesson plans. The President could give the best speech ever given to school age children. A speech that could later be demonstrated to have inspired millions of kids to make better grades, for example. A lot of people do not believe it is the president's business to be addressing school kids. It's their choice. Accusing them of being hate-filled is a bit dishonest. Some people have disagreements about the place of government in their lives. I would suggest they home school their kids if they feel so strongly though, considering that it's the government they are turning their kids over to for 'education'.

There was no such uproar when Ronald Reagan spoke to school kids in 1988. This is all about trying to delegitimize and discredit Obama. The people threatening to pull their kids out of school, simply don't accept Obama as President. That's what this is about. If Reagan were in office, they'd be eagerly anticipating his address.

If you don't want your children to be exposed to the speech, then yes, the content is irrelevant. Some situations do involve absolutes and some don't. In this case, it's the parents' choice whether or not their kids should hear what Obama says.

The schools are there to teach not force kids to listen to the president. It's manipulative, controlling crap, regardless of what is said. dont get me wrong, Obama is a corrupt and evil puppet like the rest of them, and some horrible things are going on right now. but I dont see this specific plan as too insiduous. so he's going to encourage kids to stay in school, and its not like every school in the country will show his speech, and the message isnt awful. yes they are encouraging teachers to ask questions, yes it has the potential to be used for propaganda in some cases, but i just dont see it as the harmful thing that you do.

I just dont how ONE SPEECH about going to school (which does NOT increase gov control - its just a series of statements) is a huge problem. How on earth is Obama choosing to give a speech on education on television that is directed at children "handing education over" to the government? There is no power shift involved there. Do you know that both Bush and Reagan gave similar speeches?
