I can't recommend the Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Programme strongly enough. (Link is in the video description.) They're literally the only thing standing between these wolves and extinction. They've been vaccinating both wolves and local herders' dogs against rabies, periodic epidemics of which have halved the wolf population in the last two decades. Without the EWCP, the species would be dead. Full stop.

I love their red coats, they're so beautiful. It would be a real shame to lose a wolf cousin. If these wild dogs go extinct, the Ethopian people are going to have a fun time trying to control rodent populations, not.

@basenjiguitar You are kidding right? They have no resemblance and your video confuses Basenjis with Tjesms, not to mention the lion hunting crap or that they supposedly don't bark. All dogs bark, but not all to the same degree. There is nothing cat-like about the Basenji, they are fundamentally canine.

@105km There is no evidence that these wolves contributed to the domestic dogs. There is one case of interbreeding I heard of but that was it. Kelpies and Border Collies have that behaviour from Grey wolves, despite what many people think Grey wolves hunt small game as well, I have seen pictures of rodent hunting up her in Germany.

It seems similar for sure, but most hunters stalk this way. Even house cats and lions do a similar stalking behavior before making a kill.

nop, only in the Ethiopian highlands. Its range and population used to be biger, but now, like the Walia ibex and other animals, it has been pressed to the edge
