I am 59, and I have just started playing around town in culver city at coffee shops. I played "HELLO IN THERE" and people went wild, young and old. He was a Master.
The "DEAR ABBY" singalong was also popular, I am lucky enough to sing like him. sm
I have enjoyed John Prine music for nearly my entire life. I agree, he is a national treasure. To all of us that are aging gracefully, John has captured our youth and our lives through is songs. He has made my life's journey a bit easier than it would have been otherwise. I add him on my list near Woody Guthrie.
I saw this tour in Evansville, IN and it is still my favorite concert ever. I have seen The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen with the Seeger sessions band, John Mellencamp several times, The Beach boys, Stone Temple Pilots, and too many more to name. But this three man show was absolutely incredible. There is not a better pure song writer in this age, or maybe ever. John Prine should be declared a National Treasure.
Prine's consistent ability over the years to reach out and through the facade of the ego and directly touch the heart is way too much for the largely shallow and narcissistic society we live in. He is one of the few, a gift and those whom recognize this can rejoice in his gift.
I have been working in a nursing home for 3 years. Many of the old stories of abuse, neglect and danger are mostly stories from the past as regulators and inspectors are here all the time making sure we are in legal compliance BUT the worst abuse I see is lonely people WITH local family who won't come see them. I take my time to get to know as many as possible and befriend them even though many are dying but they still yearn for human caring and connection. Please see them while you can.

We just got home from seeing John Prine at Mt Baker Theatre here in Bellingham, WA. He was amazing. This song was very powerful tonight as was Angel from Montgomery...to name a couple of dozens done.
It is absolutely unbelievable that there are only 531 views on this site; John Prine is the most incredible talent of the latter half of the 21st century; his first album blows away everything else that was out there, period--the only thing close: Michael Smith's Dutchman (Steve Goodman's version). That actually is the best song of the 20th century
Yeah, seeing John and Steve on stage together was the absolute best. And I agree that The Dutchman is the best song of the 20th century. I know my brother would agree, so that makes three of us!
@carljj22 I agree, I think I was 17 or 18 when this was first released. Has brought a big lump in my throat since then.........EVERY time I hear it. I'm 55 now, and saw Prine on Elvis' Costello's show last week. He did Lake Marie and he looks awful. but still amazing!! Y'all got good taste!
HE is THEE original!! She is a copycat!!! It sucks that commercialism pays. John Prine has been TOTALLY RIPPED OFF! Sad, really. I am a homecare nurse and firmly believe that "the BEST stories are told at the feet of the elderly". We will all, somday, be "old". Say hello.
i love it

So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."
