If you are considering modular or prefab home, building with recycled shipping containers is worth taking a look at.
Good resource is the Residential Shipping Container Primer website. A SHOWCASE OF SHIPPING CONTAINER HOMES AND BUILDINGDS, AND A DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) REFERENCE FOR CONVERTING RECYCLED INTERMODAL CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS INTO BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE.
Lots of great example buildings, details, facts, and links to other articles...
Very nicely done; clean, bright, and an efficient floor-plan. Can you fill us in on what situation this is located in where it is permitted? I have lived full-time in small dwellings and would have no problem in this for some indefinite time as-long-as it was part of an economical lifestyle. I like the idea of an insulated roof-over, and maybe some insulated siding system. Glad to see and hear more on this unit.
Great floor plan and design, I do agree there is the problem of insulation, I have seen that there is a spray on ceramic insulation being used in some of these conversions. Power can easily be routed via conduit, view the other container home videos. Solar panels could easily be mounted to the roof, and or a generator. Once again nice set up, just that here in the Arizona desert we'd need some insulating factors, maybe even placing it under a corrugated canopy, this giving a covered patio too.
We're starting our youth members on container home projects for low income families right now! This is a great concept, and very affordable. Not to mention going green in the process.
There was a bathroom between the kitchen and bedroom. You can use regular insulation and vinyl siding (you use a high-tech adhesive to hold the siding on) or you can use the same type of spray-on ceramic insulation used on the space shuttle.
Mmmm, it didn't look like it was insulated which is not good and I'm not sure the layout works either, however the idea is very sound indeed, especially at the moment with the credit crunch and all, there are a lot of people unable to afford a place and $10'000 is peanuts compared to most places.
wash, a container is fine if you plan smelling like a sewer rat year round and when comes winter ,then you go freeze to death in the woods taking a shit
i wonder if it won't be too cold inside, it's just a metal wall.. i'd make put there some isolation material and then cover all the walls with wood or something else.. also make windows to bring a bit of light in there. good idea, however
I really liked your channel and this video. If you need any help getting this video exposed I use a site called tubeviews (dot) net It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position.
There is software im using to send atleast 30,000 text message a day advertising my online business...it is amazing. I think they have free demos to try as well.

a very good use of shipping containers. as the economy slows there will be more and more of these to be had. we need more affordable places to live that doesnt require a 30 yr mortgage.
very cool. however, i noticed that there is very little storage space in those things. i suppose you could get a second shipping container and use that for storage.
I work on ships, and the boat I'm on now, has living quarters for divers made from conex boxes like this. In Seattle, one of these containers can be had for $1500.
I keep wondering how much. I've never felt right about living in big-ish houses like i have all my life. I only need something about this big. Plop this on some land and you got yourself some land and a roof. Solar panels wind generator, and storage batteries. Your done. All without going to much in to debt.
The U.S. of A. is catching up. Well done. In Europe, containers are already used as temporary class rooms, offices and to accommodate asylum-seekers. Many construction companies even offer to built full modular houses out of them. The kitchen and bathroom in this prototype are too big though for the space a container offers.
There is an article about this project on a finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat today, 1st of October. Looks nice, good luck with your project! Do those steel walls echo much?
I would hope they can do that - buy more than one of these modulars, attach them together like lego blocks, etc.
I ought to call them and ask, because if they can, I would love to live in one of these (with at least 4 containers' worth of house - two on the first floor and two in the basement, and add on to the house like so as I earn more cash! =) )
Wood rots and gets eaten by termites, so I would rather have a house like this!
wow

no worries about radiation, and actually much healthier as most standard houses are prone to mold and bacteria buildup in the walls and floors.

What do you mean? We use cell phone all the time, what does it have to do with cell phone in a steel container?
