part 1. A nod and a wave to let'em know you are ready and good to go to fire it up. Adjust fuel to change over to nitro while holding brake lever. Body is lowered and latched. Ease off brake and give her some power for burnout. Let off throttle and apply some brake. Stop. Put in reverse. Release brake and start to back up. An attempt to open hatch for smoke but no time. Gotta watch your back-up person to align car in rubber tracks you just laid down. A little brake. Stop. Put in fwd.
part 2. Crew opens hatch to clear smoke. Close visor and turn on helmet air. Release brake and ease up close to pre stage line. Stop. Release brake and ease into pre-stage. Stop. Go to full fuel. Release brake and ease into full stage while holding a little brake to keep from rolling out. Floor it on last yellow while simotainiously releasing brake. Drive thru . Get off throttle, hit chutes, grab some initial brake. Kill fuel supply. Open visor, blow da hatch, get out, and breath deep.
Doing it isn't the hard part. Doing it in the right order at the right time is the tough part. You cannot deviate what-so-ever. It is unforgiving. P.S. I forgot about the "Pro" tree....you leave when you see yellow, not last yellow....SEE what I mean? I just got fired!
Great quality footage, shows every step of the madness. Love how much his chest is heaving when the body is about to go down, and that sweet sound of the full load of fuel going rich when he pulls the pumps on :-)
The one on the left if you are sitting in the car is the fuel pump lever. The one on the right is the hand brake, and basically the only brake they have. The clutch and gas are below his feet... other than that there is a parachute button.... it's pretty simple in there.
That looks a lot harder than I thought. That has to be one serious adrenaline rush :-)

When I saw and heard a Funny car at Santa Pod for the first time I just thought to myself "Fuck me that is POWER!"
I was just amazed at the diameter of the input shaft but the noise will never leave me! I can't wait to go to FIA at Santa Pod in 2011 :)
