  • Holy fuck.

  • Am I the only one who truly appreciates the acoustic guitar at the end? I love it. Favorite part.

  • Comment removed

  • @ReevesTheKnight Yeah, it rally fits the song. Reminds me a bit of the end of Advent.

  • White faced, Haggard Grin...this Serenity Painted Death.

  • the Old Opeth didn't get enough respect. And im pretty sure Opeth was the first band to use screaming and regular vocals

  • 2:12 holy shit how did he do those sexy pinch harmonics

  • 18 more people were going to like this, but then took arrows to the knee.

  • Akerfeldt is the Metalborn!

  • @DzagielAreq no chance

  • White faced, haggard grin

    This serenity painted death

With a halo of bitter disease

    Black paragon in lingering breath

  • those 2 riffs are GODLY

  • opeth are depressed dream theater and they both suck.

  • @Lord4rk Says the the guy who clicked on an Opeth video.

  • @SiK0Fuzz1es one of my nerd friends is obsessed with this shit so i wanted to see what it was about ;)

  • @Lord4rk then what do u listen to?

  • Back when Opeth were good

  • @goldenhoovez there still good

  • @DzagielAreq this riff sounds like Confessor

  • who plays the solo at 6:14

  • @Lekiwi33 Peter Lindgren. he's gone baby gone now

  • @OAwArenAwAkeO Mikael plays it not Peter

  • @Lekiwi33 Mikael plays that solo

  • SUHFDBNJKDSBNVJKFBGUDFHBJJNBGU JIZZ

  • click here 6:14 to the greatest solo of all time.

  • ammonia of the cock my friend

  • 2:28 - I mishear this as "Would you hate to hold a penis feast, in my federal corporate paper ammonia?"

This either says something disturbing about me, or Opeth was trying to send a message far more controversial than the religious stuff in this album...

Maybe an insult to the immoral nature of people in charge of powerful companies, saying that if Opeth were a big part of some industry, these people would gladly attend a penis feast to get into Opeth's good-books, or 'federal corporate paper".

  • @Tho7masPenguin White face, haggard grin this serenity painted death

  • why is the ending so "cutted"?

is it possible nobody noticed that?

  • Only thing I don't like about this song - the abrupt ending at 9:10. Srsly, WTF?!!! First time I listened to this song, I thought that was an error on the CD! Came her to download it off Youtube...and it's on here as well. Oh well, at least it's not rly an error! BTW, I hate the 14 motherfuckers who liked this vid and ruined the 666 thing, AND the 18 sum-bitches who disliked it...

  • @deafghost52 idk if 10 motherfuckers disliked this video in 3 days but i think you ment 24 lololol

  • @deafghost52 haha liked* sorry

  • The impossible challenge: Finding a bad Opeth song

  • @BinaryPill

    Slither

  • Mikaels vocals at 5:52 are incredible. Certainly one of his most aggressive performances.

  • from 4:27 to 5:00 the drumwork reminds of that on Dream Theater's 6 o' clock track

  • @rotvalo Sounds more like Tool to me.

  • wow 666 likes exactly.

  • @Gumby3030 i know, i didnt press like cos i dont wanna ruin it

  • @kegs666 aww its too late somebody else already did. well im gonna like it now too dammit.

  • 5:30 AMAZING

  • Maybe Opeth's best song!

  • I love this song so much...just wish it faded out rather than cut off. I always thought my copy was fucked up...guess not.

  • 6:15

    My reaction

"PULL ME UNDER, PULL ME UNDER, PULL ME UNDER I'M NOT... wut?"

Almost that exact same melody shows up in Pull me Under by Dream Theater before the chorus

  • @Langtw Except Dream Theater sucks on Opeth's big death metal dong.

  • @Langtw The first four notes o.O

  • im a opeth fan. even im not into being a fan of something.

I just wanna say this solo is amazing. my fav solo in opeth songs.

    6:15 where the solo start

  • 3:15 what an awesome rhytm guitar, lead guitar is eargasmic also!

  • 1:27 FUCKING AMAZING /m/

  • "from the bowels of SIII-IIII-IIII-IIII-III-IIN!"

  • Es una de las pocas bandas mas o menos nuevas que recomendaria todos sus cds porque es uno mejor que el otro.

  • 1:25 - The start of the greatest riff ever played.

  • @RedBarchetta47 I love it ass well^_^

  • @RedBarchetta47 The chorus riff shits on that one

  • @RedBarchetta47 uhm... not so great XD

  • @RedBarchetta47 Oh hell yes. This riff changed me forever.

  • @RedBarchetta47 the riff after that is sick as well.

  • what a band, they´re just complete in all aspects

  • decapitated* mispell :0

  • When I want to listen to music, I pop on some Sylosis, maybe some Devildriver... listen to a little bit of Destruction and Decapitation... when I want to listen to Art, I listen to Opeth, and have my mind blown. Theres something about opeth that differs them from anything Ive ever heard. A song is a song, its either enjoyable yet repetitve, corney and cheesy, or an average forgetable tune. An opeth song is beyond anything that another band could create, its timeless, beautiful, and full of depth

  • @GeglashTheBabyStompa

I sorta feel the same way. They're probably my favourite band in a lot of aspects. But believe me, timeless classics are everywhere...ya just have to look for them =]

  • I always wondered why does Serenity Painted Death end like it cut off....

  • @Daver869 So true

  • @Daver869 because it ends with melinda's death. Death is sudden.

  • @NecroVMX @NecroVMX

it doesn't end with Melinda's death. She is killed in the middle of the song, (if indeed she is), it ends with his imprisonment.

  • @Lordofdeath127 They describe he having her throat cut in the middle of the song, I'm assuming it takes her a bit to bleed out.

  • @NecroVMX

not to mean pedantic but, I don't think so. The protagonist then falls into a rage and goes on killing people in the village " Each and everyone would die at my hands" until he is captured "At last, weak and torn, I went down" and imprisoned, waiting for his execution (next song). He even becomes unconscious in between "Came with the moon, The wayward in conscious state".

So I really don't think that it took Melinda the whole night to die...

  • @NecroVMX I was under the impression she was hanged? (Red line round her neck...)

  • @JonathanSchwetz he was hanged (which is why the last song talks about the hangman) the red line around her neck refers to the fact that they cut her throat

  • @NecroVMX I know that he was hanged, but I always assumed that line was a reference to her being hanged as well, I'll have to listen through the album again.

  • @Daver869 Pull Me Under does it too!

  • 3:16 that riff ...

  • Man i forgot that this was their best album. Of course, at some point I say that about all their albums.

  • This band can do no wrong

  • Stop commenting, and start listening to the music!

  • i feel like the Guitar solos are like lyrics in their own right!

  • @firesquare16 better than lyrics

  • @firesquare16 "Sex! Win! Dragons fighting robots! Chuck Norris kicking a baby giraffe in the back of the face!"

  • @CrypticC62 holy shit it works!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA

  • @firesquare16 Lyrics, wasted time between solos!

  • @Hexenhammer0 Its meant to cut off like that, a lot of people dont like it but Opeth seem to like abrupt endings to songs (they do it on Closure as well)

  • Songs from a yester day...I wish popular music was this sophisticated and enlightened. I play many of opeth's songs when my students are working to show them quality music...

  • @wrsamson Nice, I had a teacher once that put on stuff like Queen, I liked it, but if he put on Opeth, I'd like it much more :p

  • i'm gonna hunt down those 15 people that disliked this and fucking murder them!

  • 2:42 Delicious

  • WORSHIP!!!

  • chorus make lsd effect. run thru my head..

  • Haha, funny, Bathory. You're cool!

  • @robynnh77 no u fakk u

  • @BathoryHordes

haha, oh I see...you're 14. No wonder. That's baby talk.

  • @robynnh77 You don't fakken talk to me like that, sensitive boy is sensitive on youtube too.

  • I KNEW it was you!!

  • @robynnh77 I did too!! :O How is that possible...?

  • 2.47 - 4.23 is god-like music. Some of the best i've EVER heard. Anyone who doesnt like this must be deaf ...goddam genius!

  • @s1monove

I randomly wake up at like 5 am, turn on my computer and listen to that very part. I don't think I'll ever get used to its awesome-ness. Not super complex, yet just unbelievable

  • @snilakan you have great taste mate!!!

  • absolutely fantastic, still life and blackwater park

  • The Best Metal band out there!! This is one of their best songs!

  • 1:36 They TOTALLY re-used this riff in Reverie/Harlequin Forest, except they made it sharper and simpler.

  • @ErnilEnNaur

Maybe, but it's not uncommon for bands to do that (AC/DC)...I mean, it's their riff, they can use it to their hearts content, for all I care.

  • @ErnilEnNaur It's not exactly the same, but yeah, that's true.

  • I can see this band gaining led zeppelin status among the metal community

  • @brianz1214 They already have, but only amongst the ones with any taste. Opeth isn't really widely accepted in the "metal community"...I mean, he sings.

  • @robynnh77 It's partly because they have softer parts that last for a lengthy amount of time in an already lengthy song. You need patience if you are going to listen to Opeth. Some people can't handle the lengthy build ups into heavier sections, and instead just grab a Bloodbath CD.

  • @Xanhalac

I agree...I have the patience for the songs, and good things come to those who wait. Opeth is great.

  • @robynnh77 They suck ass

  • @BathoryHordes Saying Opeth sucks ass is like saying Nickelback are awesome. It's a fallacy.

  • @robynnh77 There are so many people who "Appreciate metal" that are under the misguided impression that singing is stupid. It makes me really sad to see people like that. I appreciate all forms of music. That's why opeth is so perfect for me: They drift from super soft acoustics to death metal. I like everything in between. :)

  • @MrTestMusic I agree, Opeth is perfect for me, too. Actually it took awhile to warm up to the growling. I love the parts where he sings over heavy riffs/beats...creates nice dynamics, rather than just having it shoved down your throat.

  • Ha, I like Opeth, but reading comments about how many dislikes is annoying. so just to piss you off, Im gonna clikc the dislike button. Weeeeee.

  • @cornnutsmaj7 yeaah dawg I do that shit too! especially on this underground ass tracks with less than 100k listens, like who gives a shit the fact that someone even found this video indicates that they like Opeth lulz.

  • @cornnutsmaj7 14 more people have the same thinking you have

  • @cornnutsmaj7 wow.....just wow

  • R.I.P. Melida ..if you know what I mean

  • The drums in this song... Holy Shit is all I have to say. So tasteful, groovy, and brutal all in one song. Drumming Perfection.

  • @FeedThemCake what else could u expect from Martin Lopez? to bad his health got in the way and he had to leave =(

  • 2:10 - 2:45 epic riff

  • Comment removed

  • Uma das melhores músicas do Opeth, com certeza

  • The 8 People who disliked this song should have a Serenity Painted Death.

  • 8 people who disliked this should die

  • @Satanicblackmetal You should die. The last thing we need on this earth are ignorant close-minded people who thing that what they like or choose is the best.

  • @KarimBoctorAwad ...says the guy who called Lady Gaga shit.

  • K-how great multi-dimentional band

  • i love this song. the vocals sound so full of pain and rage in the beginning and the instrumentals are so dramatic. it goes so well with the emotion of the lyrics. just breathtaking.

  • fucken epic song and very poetic lyrics on all this album

  • 5:52 made me shit my pants

  • seen them twice... played this the first time sooo crazy love them

  • 3:27 amazing riff

  • Fantastic up!

    Epic fuckin' band right here.

  • Yessss! Opeth is da s**t.

  • @roblmcdowell I think you mean *the shit.

  • i haven't heard much opeth but i got this album because it was really cheap and i have to say every song is amazing. best opeth album i have heard so far. i love the mix of vocals and how it changes as it goes on.

  • @anymetalwilldo You should listen to more progressive metal then...I'm sure you would enjoy it.

  • @TheHalluzination i do listen to prog metal but mainly prog rock. i love porcupine tree, Pink Floyd, dream theater and tool. its just opeth iv not listened to much off.

if ya can point me into any more good prog bands to tell.

  • @anymetalwilldo Ah you have good taste. Hmm a couple I would recommend would be Orphaned Land and if you like Porcupine Tree you will probably enjoy Riverside.

  • @TheHalluzination riverside sound awesome from what i have heard so far. but not keen on orphaned land. thanks for introducing me to riverside.

  • @anymetalwilldo Most underrated band in the world right now I think.
