One reason the arts unite people: It's interesting that in a few completely different cultures that I've witnessed so far... if you're wearing that kind of long flowy costume (the dress in particular)... the dance is so similar. It shows you that movement is universal. (it's a dance thing) I could take any gypsy and show them the 'bele' and they would get it no problem.

@gypsyforever19 I too am a gypsy (born in America) and wear traditional dress, I did not go to school, but I did go to church 3 days a week for 27 years, and was treated like shit by it's members, based on my dress and culture. :( It's sad, because outside of that church I have met so many great people. I believed the teachings of that church, which is why I went in spite of the way I was treated. I stopped going when they burned my house down. The members did not practice what they preached.

Which is very cool too. I got picked on a lot too. I had to go to school, one day. I wore a tie in my hair, they thought it was gang related and sent to me out of school for it. I even get in trouble to run barefoot.

@gypsyforever19 I am one, I know how it is. I wore gypsy clothes a lot. I learned that I was one by my grandma, who was form Romaine and I am also Hungarian. My grandpa was a Irish one too. Which is very cool too. I got picked on a lot too. I had to go to school, one day. I wore a tie in my hair, they thought it was gang related and sent to me out of school for it. I even get in trouble to run barefoot.

@puertomexirican hi there. i'm romanian and i would like to point out that the romanian people are NOT the same with the romani(gypsy) people. The romanian culture is very different from the romani culture, both great in their own way. Romani people don't have a country of their own, you can find them in many countries in est of Europe. And unfortunatelly many of them are just lots of 'pain in the ass' (thiefs and beggars). Anyway, i just wanted to specify the difference.

Well they have a lot of chances: the school is free, they can go to college or university without exam or taxes, they can get good jobs without exams, they are positive discriminated, but still they steal.

I grew up in a village where they lived in every house, my family shares the same DNA So I am not some one that doesnt live with them and trying to protect them, I grew up with them, I speak the language and know the culture, those that steal, we avoided them but we didnt hate those that beg. There was always a reason why they beg. You dont live WITH them, u live NEXT to them. I speak for the most but not ALL.

I'm glad that I didn't grow up with a prejudiced view toward gypsies, because their culture is fascinating :) I love how proud they are (the gypsies i have seen on youtube anyway). America has a lot of cool things, but one thing that it doesn't have is true culture. It is a "melting pot" where people tend to be ashamed of celebrating their culture. I wish I could live with gypsies for a week :) Haha

From what i know. Gypsies were orginally from norther India. They are hindu by blood, but after alot of time in europe , some have white blood in them.The word gypsy was supose to be a bad word for egyptians. Gypsies originated in India, as a nomadic tribe, they left and came into Europe via two ways, through Turkey into the Balkans, and also Egypt up into Spain. The name Gypsy is referencing Egypt, where narrow minded Europeans thought they were from

dude if ur going to ask an ignorant question at least do some research first, gypsies were like a cult but in a different way, originated in egypt ( i guess thats were u get the word Gypt from) spread through europe (first arrived in romania)different gypsies dances originated as they spread in europe (arabian belly dance) and now in 2010 u find about 5difference kind of gypsie dances which 1 of them is of course romanian gypsie dance, that pretty much explains it in the easiest way
