Cenk never said it wasn't going to cost money to pass the health care reform. But once we get a system like that in Denmark, the Netherlands, etc, things will be cheaper. These countries spend less per capita on health care than we do, their people live longer, and have a lower infant mortality rate than we do. Not only is their quality of health care better for more people, but it's cheaper as well. And while no one can deny our economy is in the tank, theirs are at least slowly growing.

Actually socialized medicine IS less costly. In Canada, our unit cost (yes it sounds weird but they try to measure it this way) for treating diseases is significantly less. Look it up.
@alexsaves of course it's less costly when the system intentionally denies access to certain procedures and life-saving operations. ask yourself why so many come to the US for surgery if the Canadian system is so good -- they were denied access to it at home! Likewise, the availability of things like expensive MRIs and other imaging systems are relatively rare in Canada while they are littering the landscape in the US. Of course it's more costly here!

Unfortunately, and I doubt you would disagree, but medical rationing is necessary or both our systems would collapse. People can't just go to a bazillion doctors whenever they get sick until they hear what they want to hear. People often go to the US simply because they want to get treatment from a specialist that happens to live in the US. We're a small country with fewer specialists.

Is it possible that that money would not go to hiring a single person, and instead be used for personal enjoyment and recreation? Companies are in business to make money. If they could make just as much money by not hiring a single person, don't you think they would? Your argument seems a bit naive.
First of all someone ignorant of the facts of an issue calling someone else naive I find incredibly amusing. Secondly, and more importantly, take half a second to do any research and you will find that historically no matter what the tax rate on the rich or on corporations the US revenue stays at roughly around 19% of GDP. So all other arguments aside increasing the tax rate a few points doesn't accomplish your goal regardless of how the person/corp would spend it otherwise.

The rich dont provide jobs, the businesses they own create jobs. And firms exist to employ they exist to make profit. Making the poor and middle class pay a higher rate of tax then the rich lowers effective demand for commodities therefore slowing down trade.

Tax breaks are totally unfair (which are what the right wing people think are fair). I believe either the same taxes should be there or the rich should pay about .5-1% more. Likewise, the availability of things like expensive MRIs and other imaging systems are relatively rare in Canada while they are littering the landscape in the US. Of course it's more costly here!

Unfortunately, and I doubt you would disagree, but medical rationing is necessary or both our systems would collapse. People can't just go to a bazillion doctors whenever they get sick until they hear what they want to hear. People often go to the US simply because they want to get treatment from a specialist that happens to live in the US. We're a small country with fewer specialists.

First of all someone ignorant of the facts of an issue calling someone else naive I find incredibly amusing. Secondly, and more importantly, take half a second to do any research and you will find that historically no matter what the tax rate on the rich or on corporations the US revenue stays at roughly around 19% of GDP. So all other arguments aside increasing the tax rate a few points doesn't accomplish your goal regardless of how the person/corp would spend it otherwise.

The rich dont provide jobs, the businesses they own create jobs. And firms exist to employ they exist to make profit. Making the poor and middle class pay a higher rate of tax then the rich lowers effective demand for commodities therefore slowing down trade.

Tax breaks are totally unfair (which are what the right wing people think are fair). I believe either the same taxes should be there or the rich should pay about .5-1% more.
