i really don't understand when people think how quickly a computer boots makes it better. all that means is you have a very very simple setup. a good portion of boot time is detecting/configuring hardware. on a fresh install of windows 7, my computer (with a quad core 3ghz cpu) takes nearly a minute and a half to boot up but i have 4 expansion cards, 5 drives (none in raid), and a vfd screen. my computer is much more powerful but it cannot possibly boot faster without a faster hdd (or sdd)

What exactly does this test prove? That a bogged down Mac can start just a wee bit faster than a bogged down PC with a different RAM?
@ftdj Very close, since Apple makes their own hardware it probably functions better than lower-end hardware (I'm guessing) on the laptop. Plus laptops tend to run slower than desktops too, but anyway, my original point, start-ups don't tell which OS is better, just which starts up faster. :P

@ftdj The bootup time doesn't show you what the operating system is capable of. For instance, I can make my own animations, 3D games, program, play games, just minutes after opening the box. With a Mac, you can't do any of that. Windows does more, that's indisputable. But to many people OSX looks much nicer, and feels great to use. No complaints there.
@ftdj Not the same hardware. The laptop probably had a 5200 rpm hard drive while the desktop has a 7200, as is standard. The RAM speeds are probably different as well. Desktops tend to have a higher cache in their hard drives and processors. The bios are way different as well, and PCs tend to have slower bios. This is a fresh install of seven, while his copy of OSX has been well used. There are more differences, but these are the ones that matter here. So no, different specs, hardly even similar
I just noticed how clean mac looks compared to windows. I am not really saying thats a good or bad thing. Windows is more eye candy, but mac has speed.
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger- no security problems, older look, but updated annually.
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard-no security problems, up to date, only requires 1GB of RAM for all the good looks and multi-tasking
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard-no security problems, same leopard look, new 64 bit support, less than 8GB of required hard drive space for all three, whereas windows requires about 9-25. Just making a point
Right now i'm at 563mb PF, just on msn and google chrome.
when i play MW2 it can reach over 1GB, so recommended 2GB RAM at least
however, if you wasn't playing games.. you're not really going to find programs that are that memory demanding, and you're hardly going to buy a mac for gaming lacking DirectX and all.. :P

Hello everyone. I'm trying to figure out why Macs are so expensive and if they are that much better then PCs. So watch my (Mac vs. pc) video and comment about what you think.
I think Windows and Mac are the same speed. Windows doesn't start automatically when you turn on your pc.the computer's company logo turns up,and then it load up.Macs are the os and the computer,so it's open as soon that you turn it on.
I would like to also point out that the Mac can run 2 os's at the same time so think about the computer you buy. I for one like PC's and Mac's, both are good computers and os's. So stop the "Mac vs PC" videos because they are a waste of time and effort. This message gos out to the people who keep arguing about what is better.
@PRCkevlar I don't think the US Gov or the Police has a law about it but I think it will void your warranty and your OS license because it may be seen as a modification so at the most they would probably not support it if you chose to do something like that. Companies sometimes get ahead of themselves saying things are illegal because they dont make laws.
my PC is currently running linux,solaris,win7,windows visa and mac and i doubt a mac could do all that, i think its good people debate about different os's as it lets people share there ideas with others etc

You can't really compare both of the software because you have both of them running on two different Computers. One of those computers could have a better or worst Proccesor/CPU/GPU. As well as RAM and Data integrated into the PC.
if you ran both software on the same laptops then we will see a different story here.
For me, Ubuntu is the best. I tripple boot all three major OS's on my laptop, and have found it to be the most trouble free and capable for a programmer like myself. Plus that 12 second boot time is unrivaled by even OSX, unless you put it on a SSD.
I have to disagree with mssicctv, there are tons of media editing programs for PC only that are way better rated than the ones for the PC. And Mac users are the stupid ones, that's why they by computers that are not customizable and "easy to use". PC may be not as intuitive but I can make my computer any way I want it at any time with no effort.
I bought my first mac 6 months ago since I have bought another .. It took a little getting use to simply because windows has you so messed up you don't realize how much more a computer can do until you have a mac.
Mac is superior the only reason pc continues is because so many people use it so all the software is first made in windows.. That is going to change.

I run cs4 .. I have it on 3 puters 1. q6600 8 gig ram running w7 ultimate 64w/upgrade grafics card, the other a e8200 w/4gig ram running xp pro w/same upgrade drafics card. I have a Imac 24 2.4 w/4 gig ram running LS guess which one I don't find my self using to do cs4 work..the w7.. I'm very unimpressed with much of what windows has done since xp pro and the huge amount of problems I've had even w/ w7 which I got as a pr.. 4 months ago.

You do know that the Start up BIOS and POST is half the start up battle hardware can effect BIOS and POST, there really is no way to test start up speeds, Unless you can have both start right after BIOS.
The only reason macs don't get viruses is because they are not as common as windows computers. When macs do become more widespread in the market people will start making viruses specifically for macs, and they will get infected just as much as windows. People that think macs don't get viruses will be proven wrong soon.

hey guys the mac is over priced and you're mainly paying for the operating system. you can get a really powerful pc for the same amount of money as a mediocre mac. yes windows pc operationsystem is glitchy, but as it ahs already been stated it is soo compatible and if your like me and constantly have mini hacking projects going on linux and pc are key for this. and now that you can very easly get mac os x on any intel or amd pc, with a dual boot system the pc rules over all. Just had to buy a PC laptop for my ex-wife's father a couple of days ago. Bought Sony Vaio as it was the most OK design-wise but still is it terrible to even hold this plastic shit after gorgeous Macbook pro. Vista sucks so much - as it asks you all the time to confirm if it is really you. All the tests of Windows 7 are incorrect as you have to launch it with an anti-virus program on and all the other protective stuff - then it becomes really slow. Hail Mac!
Sorry, but just because you went and brought a cheap liitle laptop (probaly £300-700) that was poorly designed (not everyone has the same tast you know!), doesn't mean you can say all pcs are worse than macs, because all macs as built to the same quality, but many different companies make pc's so there for they will be different build qualities. In my opinion, macs are an expensive computer bought entirely for the os x. OS X is just a flashy Operating system built primarily to look good, but its compatibility with many of the programs you can download nowadays is terrible. Windows is a cheaper, glitchier os, but it is compatible with just about anything. Linux is the way to go if you know anything about computers and programming because it is the most customizable os if you know what you are doing.
in my opinion y used to be a PC fanboy but know i've tried mac on 2006 and nothing compared it used to be just a flashy operating system but know with 10.6 thing have changed in my opinion OS X its the best Windows its good for hacking and allilegal stuff but for the rest OS X...

It makes me sad to hear judgements on stuff you don't know shit about. Do not fear what you don't know, do not judge what you don't know about. Macs do cost a lot of money compared to Windows or Linux, but quality does cost money in this case. In the case of Linux, quality is free.
I'm not a Mac user, nor have I ever touched a Mac, I will not judge without trying. I've tried Windows and Linux, and Linux wins for me.

Vista: bad compatibility, ran games slower, used too much memory.. looked good but even more buggy than XP
Windows7 however has the looks of vista + more.. AND it preforms better than XP
Faster booting, better compatibility, uses less memory, supports DX11, no longer buggy..
I think Windows 7 should have changed the looks a bit, people are scared to try it....

Notice at 0:59 windows 7 beats the mac, by loading a program after loading some gadgets, before the mac finishes loading the desktop icons!!!
Take away the gadgets and that start up program on windows 7 and you have a clear winner. :D
OR somehow have the mac load a program AND the dashboard upon startup, just to be fair to the WinPC.

Tell me how you cam to the conclusion that the mac was 5 seconds quicker???
Look closely and focus on the details, such as the desktop icons, menu bar on mac and the gadgets and startup program on the WinPC.
It is very clear that even with Win7 having to run the gadgets and load that startup program, it still came out triumphant over Leopard. :D

You can't really compare both of the software because you have both of them running on two different Computers. One of those computers could have a better or worst Proccesor/CPU/GPU. As well as RAM and Data integrated into the PC.
if you ran both software on the same laptops then we will see a different story here.

For me, Ubuntu is the best. I tripple boot all three major OS's on my laptop, and have found it to be the most trouble free and capable for a programmer like myself. Plus that 12 second boot time is unrivaled by even OSX, unless you put it on a SSD.

I have to disagree with mssicctv, there are tons of media editing programs for PC only that are way better rated than the ones for the PC. And Mac users are the stupid ones, that's why they by computers that are not customizable and "easy to use". PC may be not as intuitive but I can make my computer any way I want it at any time with no effort.

I bought my first mac 6 months ago since I have bought another .. It took a little getting use to simply because windows has you so messed up you don't realize how much more a computer can do until you have a mac.
Mac is superior the only reason pc continues is because so many people use it so all the software is first made in windows.. That is going to change.

I run cs4 .. I have it on 3 puters 1. q6600 8 gig ram running w7 ultimate 64w/upgrade grafics card, the other a e8200 w/4gig ram running xp pro w/same upgrade drafics card. I have a Imac 24 2.4 w/4 gig ram running LS guess which one I don't find my self using to do cs4 work..the w7.. I'm very unimpressed with much of what windows has done since xp pro and the huge amount of problems I've had even w/ w7 which I got as a pr.. 4 months ago.

W7 owns Ubuntu, i've yet to try Mac though, I used Ubuntu for nearly a Year on my laptop, then one of my friends found a nice Hacked W7 Ultimate Torrent, i couldn't be happier

You do know that the Start up BIOS and POST is half the start up battle hardware can effect BIOS and POST, there really is no way to test start up speeds, Unless you can have both start right after BIOS.

The only reason macs don't get viruses is because they are not as common as windows computers. When macs do become more widespread in the market people will start making viruses specifically for macs, and they will get infected just as much as windows. People that think macs don't get viruses will be proven wrong soon.

hey guys the mac is over priced and you're mainly paying for the operating system. you can get a really powerful pc for the same amount of money as a mediocre mac. yes windows pc operationsystem is glitchy, but as it ahs already been stated it is soo compatible and if your like me and constantly have mini hacking projects going on linux and pc are key for this. and now that you can very easly get mac os x on any intel or amd pc, with a dual boot system the pc rules over all. Sorry mac :-P

Just had to buy a PC laptop for my ex-wife's father a couple of days ago. Bought Sony Vaio as it was the most OK design-wise but still is it terrible to even hold this plastic shit after gorgeous Macbook pro. Vista sucks so much - as it asks you all the time to confirm if it is really you. All the tests of Windows 7 are incorrect as you have to launch it with an anti-virus program on and all the other protective stuff - then it becomes really slow. Hail Mac!

Sorry, but just because you went and brought a cheap liitle laptop (probaly £300-700) that was poorly designed (not everyone has the same tast you know!), doesn't mean you can say all pcs are worse than macs, because all macs as built to the same quality, but many different companies make pc's so there for they will be different build qualities. Therefore you cannot compare them on looks and feel, especially as a mac book pro's price tag is £1,149.00!

Ok the os makes up for it you say, but to be honest for what i usually do with my pc, hack, game, chat, program word proces etc. pc are better for if you spnd the same £ on a pc as you have on your macbookpro, the only thing that macs are beter at are being simple to use and designing if you're not vry computer smart. and as i have already said you cn easly hv a mac os on a pc tht argument is thrown out the window!

In my opinion, macs are an expensive computer bought entirely for the os x. OS X is just a flashy Operating system built primarily to look good, but its compatibility with many of the programs you can download nowadays is terrible. Windows is a cheaper, glitchier os, but it is compatible with just about anything. Linux is the way to go if you know anything about computers and programming because it is the most customizable os if you know what you are doing.

It makes me sad to hear judgements on stuff you don't know shit about. Do not fear what you don't know, do not judge what you don't know about. Macs do cost a lot of money compared to Windows or Linux, but quality does cost money in this case. In the case of Linux, quality is free.
I'm not a Mac user, nor have I ever touched a Mac, I will not judge without trying. I've tried Windows and Linux, and Linux wins for me.
