Thank you for your comment. I look at it this way. Lee Eun Mi does tend to be most critical and that's fine but she mostly implies negatives only especially to Baek. It has gotten to the point where her criticisms became just a self-centered hypocritical brag. She shouldn't ignore the genuine quality of individuals when judging. The viewers knew her intentional scoring was unfair and that led to her mentee's disqualification.

She has to be harsh on them, its her job. does that answer all your questions? i understand many singers have that nasal voice and many believe it adds to their charm. If they want to do it a certain style that cooresponds to the song then sure but in this case his song selection doesnt match a nasally voice.

The guy is the definition of Kim;s ideal *beaty* that hes looking for, He fixed his nasal voice a lot and made one of the largest efforts among the competitors. i wish him luck since he is personally my favorite. He's had a hard life and now is his chance in the sunlight, hopefully he makes it count
judge said because he is using his nose to sing, he cannot pronounce very well and the sound is very bothering. and this is really true. thats why judge showed him how she wants him to sing in the middle around 2:45 and she said she found a person who can sing easiest out of the contestants and have great talent, but the problem is that he is using his nose. and he still couldn't fix that. but i still like him and want him to go up.

Kim tae won is only judge who sees deep and beyond. His tretcherous hardships in the past and experiences found himself strength of wisdom see the quality of his pupils like no other judges did. "Song, you've already accomplished a miracle." Indeed he did as KTW predicted over and over.

She said that Beak had one of the best singing ability amongst all contenders which is rare but his singing technique that's heavily nasal was wrong and he needs to fix it. That's what she said. Was she wrong? NO, She was RIGHT. KTW took Baek as a mentee but agreed with her and worked hard to fix him.

It's about who they want to work with and how much change they could bring. KTW's mentees did well better than other mentors's. Lee Eun Mi, Shin Seung Hoon and Kim Yoona are top singers.

I am not 100% sure they are going to be the judge the participants but I'm pretty sure the "Living Legend" will talk about "nasal sound." Baek's case he was imitating and that was worse than singing nasal. There are many great opera singers who had nasal sound. Joseph Schmidt, Sherill Milnes,Franciso Araiza,Alfredo Kraus....etc. They are wonderful singers with a nasal sound.

The kid need good foundation to build his instrument. This is completely different argument. For lady judge to make that statement is inappropriate in this case because half of pro pop singers use mixed nasal singing.

If you begin with these mannerisms, all you'll ever be is a good copy singers. That's what she's critiquing on. And many vocal coaches and professional singers agree and won't allow people to do that at their early career.

@Xentradi97 Mixing nasal singing is wrong in classical singing, if you sing opera that is. In pop world it's free. Pop singing require superficial amplification which is opposite in opera. Well....today's world demand more volume so most opera theaters use superficial amplification. What's unique about pop singing is it's more free. One can mix nasal, heavy vibratos, distorted throat sound...what ever beautiful or annoying vocal sound to influence the audience.

Amateur singers gets too focused on mimicking and copying that, they miss the real point of singing, which is to voice the sound that can communicate emotion to the audience. @steakopera She's one of the most respected female pop singers in Korea who can sing live better than anyone. She was the only Korean singer to be invited by Las Vegas to perform. She has over 3 decades of experience in singing and performing. KTW also a legend in the business. Many amazing singers went through him.
It's wrong for a lady judge to criticize his nasal singing. Choi yong pil used nasal sound in his singing and look how popular he was. So was Kim gun mo. I actually think his nasal sound make his voice colorful. After all this is Pop. She shouldn't confined his ability and versatility.
@steakopera Choi Yong Pil and Kim Gun mo weren't just nasal. They each had very distinctive color to their voice. And unfortunately such singing style is a passe. This singer has a good voice and good color tone but he tries too hard to imitate rather than develop his own voice. That's what judges are criticizing. He's a diamond in the rough.
@Xentradi97 Nobody can sing just with nasal sound alone, can they? He was mixing the nasal sound. So did CYP and KGM. Problem I had with the lady judge was what she said, "The way you sing is wrong." I disagree with her and this is the reason why Korean pop singers these days sound all alike. All tried to sound R&B and so is this judge. I've heard her sing few times. I remember her face but I don't remember her voice and this is K-pop competition, not specified in any genre.

That could cause controversy because a lot famous singers have used mixed nasal in the past and in the present day. There is no right or wrong in Pop singing. Mixing nasal is perfectly fine depending on the song and if it's more meaningful.
@steakopera Actually there is right and wrong. Too much technique and embellishment oriented singing does not move people. Yes you're right there are pros who do that. But their base is solid to start out with. And some, they've found audience somehow with no telling how long their career would last. You mentioned Cho Yong Pill, his singing technique changed alot over the years. He was one of the pioneers who tried to experiment. He wasn't always nasal.
@Xentradi97 If CYP didn't mix nasal sound in "Dora wayo Busan hang ae", it would have sounded dull. What makes CYP so special is that he sings with intensity of color and rich emotion. He is not about technique. That's why the listeners are so moved.
@steakopera CYP had a long career. Listen to his songs before that. He first learned how to sing properly without any nasal or anything. He even learned Pansori to open up his voice. He didn't try on the nasal technique till much later. What these judges are critiquing on is bad habits of up and coming artist whose voice aren't grounded in solid foundation yet. They do not know how to voice their feeling to move people but just imitate techniques.
@steakopera They can try, experiment and do techniques once their foundation is solid and strong. It's an extreme bad habit (and lot of Korean young singers and professional singers do it unfortunately) focus on techniques. This kid's true voice color and talent was buried because he tried so hard to imitate his idol Kim Kyung Ho. The judges are telling him not to do that and find his own voice. They are right 100%

Pop singing in Korea or regardless where it could be, whether it's nasal or not nasal...... if the singer has the ability to deliver the quality to the audience to feel delightful or soothing or what not..........that is what pop is all about. John Lennon had a nasal sound from when he made first recording until his death and people loved him. This kid has a foundation and potential to be better than the lady judge. So it wrong for her to say what she said.
@steakopera Suit yourself. All the examples of nasal voice you've mentioned are established legends who have been tested throughout a long career and forged their own style. This kid is just starting and YES he's imitating Kim Kyung-Ho without having his own distinctive color or style yet or knowing how to move the audience. One can sing very well and become a good imitators or be a good singer. Imitators sing in lounges. Real singers sing on stages. That's the difference.

@Xentradi97 LOL. You speak so highly of the judges. Kim tae won is just a show freak, O.K. I like him. He is funny. Other pretty girl is not known for singing but dance music and very creative though. I love her. She is so adorable. Other lady judge, I just listen to her rendition of "I have a lover", and she doesn't have much appeal on her voice. She sounds ordinary without special or unique talent. No wonder I don't remember her voice.
@steakopera Kim Tae Won is also a very respected musician and knows when and how to recognize a good voice. He led rock group Buwhal and was the front man to pick all the singers that came and went. I don't know who the pretty girl is. As I said, you're entitled to your opinion but most people and the music world will disagree with you. Which is fine. Are you a musician who has earn the right to say these things? I don't think so. So are we supposed to take your opinion over theirs?
@Xentradi97 O.K KTW is wacko but I notice as I've watched and listened to his comments and advices he does have the experiences and philosophical point of views but wacky too and I like that. He does have distinct understanding in music different from others. I don't have any issue with KTW or really any judges in particular. I just felt the lady judge made the comment based on her own confined belief whether.
@steakopera After all, if you or I knew better than those judges, we wouldn't be debating over on youtube but to the face of contestants or busy doing our music projects. @steakopera see that's where you're wrong. I'm not generalizing them simply because they are on TV. Those two judges are artists who's been doing what they've been doing for all their life and extremely well respected for their work and accomplishments. They are pros with life time of experience that you and I don't have. And classical singing is very different than pop or Jazz. I don't think you know who these people are really.
@steakopera Simply put, you don't dismiss an advise from a Michelin chef if you're an amateur cook with an aspiration and a long long experience ahead of you. That's arrogance. And reason why many young talents fail to blossom and fail. If he's smart and humble, he'll listen to what she said. That's all I was trying to say.
@Xentradi97 I do have considerable understanding in singing that is classical singing. I know how the vocal mechanisms work. I don't profess myself to be equal to many great singers and when I listen to pro and amateurs I know what to criticize or not. Don't make me laugh.

The judges are professionals who have been doing this for their entire lives with numerous respecting audience and fellow singers. Their opinion matters. I disagree with their critique sometimes as a matter of opinion but I wouldn't dare say I'm right and they are wrong.
@Xentradi97 I much prefer the way he sang the first time. It had more feeling whether he was imitating or not. The second time, after lady judge told him not to use nasal had no feeling, I just hear the technique and it sounded to edgy.
@steakopera Your entitled to your opinion. I'd go with Lee Eun Mi who's the lady judge you've mentioned and look her up while you're at it. It's like an art student telling Picasso that his critique is wrong. Well some people are like that I suppose. Many people don't like Simon Cowell and love to hate him. But fact of the matter is, he's right and knows what he's talking about. That's why they are where they are.

Thank you for your comment. I look at it this way. Lee Eun Mi does tend to be most critical and that's fine but she mostly implies negatives only especially to Baek. It has gotten to the point where her criticisms became just a self-centered hypocritical brag. She shouldn't ignore the genuine quality of individuals when judging. The viewers knew her intentional scoring was unfair and that led to her mentee's disqualification.

@XxDavo93xX no matter what accent, they want to hear a clear lucid voice. Nasal is a natural flaw in his singing. She has to be harsh on them, its her job. does that answer all your questions? i understand many singers have that nasal voice and many believe it adds to their charm. If they want to do it a certain style that cooresponds to the song then sure but in this case his song selection doesnt match a nasally voice.

The guy is the definition of Kim;s ideal *beaty* that hes looking for, He fixed his nasal voice a lot and made one of the largest efforts among the competitors. i wish him luck since he is personally my favorite. He's had a hard life and now is his chance in the sunlight, hopefully he makes it count

judge said because he is using his nose to sing, he cannot pronounce very well and the sound is very bothering. and this is really true. thats why judge showed him how she wants him to sing in the middle around 2:45 and she said she found a person who can sing easiest out of the contestants and have great talent, but the problem is that he is using his nose. and he still couldn't fix that. but i still like him and want him to go up.

@Xentradi97 Bologne. So did the other competitors and two of Park's pupils were gone. Park eun mi didn't chose him for her pupil. In fact, no mentor wanted him except Kim tae won. Kim tae won is only judge who sees deep and beyond. His tretcherous hardships in the past and experiences found himself strength of wisdom see the quality of his pupils like no other judges did. "Song, you've already accomplished a miracle." Indeed he did as KTW predicted over and over.

What we argued about was whether Lee's critique on Baek was right or not. You said she was wrong. I said she knows what she's talking about. @steakopera Lee passed Baek in the first round and continued to pass him instead of failing. Listen to what she said first round if you got ears. She said that Beak had one of the best singing ability amongst all contenders which is rare but his singing technique that's heavily nasal was wrong and he needs to fix it. That's what she said. Was she wrong? NO, She was RIGHT. KTW took Baek as a mentee but agreed with her and worked hard to fix him.

It's about who they want to work with and how much change they could bring. KTW's mentees did well better than other mentors's. But that doesn't in anyway make other mentors inferior as a singer, performer as well as critics. KTW can't even sing. He's a song writer and a guitarist. Lee Eun Mi, Shin Seung Hoon and Kim Yoona are top singers.

Singers tend to influence others only with what they experienced. That shouldn't be the priority here. KTW is not a good singer and that works in his favorite here and sees beyond what other judges(singers) could not see.

@Xentradi97 LEM criticized Baek's nasal sound. LEM did not pick Baek for his mentee. LEM raised her hand for Lee tae won but she was turned down. LEM gave KTW's mentee, Song a score of 7.0. shows her inferiority. Two of LEM's mentees disqualified and left with one and soon to be disqualified as well. Everything LEM did work against her because she is just a singer no more.

No argument from me that KTW is a great mentor. And he was very good of him to pick the mentees he picked. But again, that doesn't make other mentors LEM, BSH, KYN, SSH inferior mentors. Come season2, there's no guarantee KTW's mentees will always do better. You've got something against LEM, fine. Doesn't change anything.

@Xentradi97 Well..Lee eun mi got what she deserve and the same goes for Bang. It became even more clear what their intentions were and audience knew it too. Giving 7.1 and 7.3 on Baek's performance were madness. Park needs to grow up and realize she is just a singer not a mentor. Her last mentee shows the result. They should pull her and her chair and put them in the audience where she belongs and you need to stop encouraging Park for more than what she really is.

@Xentradi97 You are probably aware but I just found out Cho Yong Pil and band Greatest Birth are going to appear on the next episode. I am not 100% sure they are going to be the judge the participants but I'm pretty sure the "Living Legend" will talk about "nasal sound." I predict CYP will not be as critical as LEM about the issue as if it's evil thing to do even for a young singer. I believe some nasal sounds are annoying but not in this case with Baek. Ciao. steak.

Baek's case he was imitating and that was worse than singing nasal. There are many great opera singers who had nasal sound. Joseph Schmidt, Sherill Milnes,Franciso Araiza,Alfredo Kraus....etc. They are wonderful singers with a nasal sound.

If you begin with these mannerisms, all you'll ever be is a good copy singers. That's what she's critiquing on. And many vocal coaches and professional singers agree and won't allow people to do that at their early career.

I am no less than the judges in the panel. You can laugh if you want. Those judges are musicians but entertainers at the same time. You don't see the real artist behind a camera. I am not saying the lady judge was wrong in everything she said. Big names can give false advices. Some advices(negative) need to be filtered. Some of them are bossy and they think what ever they say could turn into good medicine. You need to differentiate.

@Xentradi97 Mixing nasal singing is wrong in classical singing, if you sing opera that is. In pop world it's free. Pop singing require superficial amplification which is opposite in opera. Well....today's world demand more volume so most opera theaters use superficial amplification. What's unique about pop singing is it's more free. One can mix nasal, heavy vibratos, distorted throat sound...what ever beautiful or annoying vocal sound to influence the audience.

Amateur singers gets too focused on mimicking and copying that, they miss the real point of singing, which is to voice the sound that can communicate emotion to the audience. @steakopera She's one of the most respected female pop singers in Korea who can sing live better than anyone. She was the only Korean singer to be invited by Las Vegas to perform. She has over 3 decades of experience in singing and performing. KTW also a legend in the business. Many amazing singers went through him.

It's wrong for a lady judge to criticize his nasal singing. Choi yong pil used nasal sound in his singing and look how popular he was. So was Kim gun mo. I actually think his nasal sound make his voice colorful. After all this is Pop. She shouldn't confined his ability and versatility.

@steakopera Choi Yong Pil and Kim Gun mo weren't just nasal. They each had very distinctive color to their voice. And unfortunately such singing style is a passe. This singer has a good voice and good color tone but he tries too hard to imitate rather than develop his own voice. That's what judges are criticizing. He's a diamond in the rough.

@Xentradi97 Nobody can sing just with nasal sound alone, can they? He was mixing the nasal sound. So did CYP and KGM. Problem I had with the lady judge was what she said, "The way you sing is wrong." I disagree with her and this is the reason why Korean pop singers these days sound all alike. All tried to sound R&B and so is this judge. I've heard her sing few times. I remember her face but I don't remember her voice and this is K-pop competition, not specified in any genre.

I'm sorry you disagree. But if I was in his shoes I'd listen to her. The Kpop singers sound alike because they sing with decorative technique trying to imitate rather than use their real voice and color to move the audience. That's what she was critiquing him about and she's right.

That could cause controversy because a lot famous singers have used mixed nasal in the past and in the present day. There is no right or wrong in Pop singing. Mixing nasal is perfectly fine depending on the song and if it's more meaningful.

@steakopera Actually there is right and wrong. Too much technique and embellishment oriented singing does not move people. Yes you're right there are pros who do that. But their base is solid to start out with. And some, they've found audience somehow with no telling how long their career would last. You mentioned Cho Yong Pill, his singing technique changed alot over the years. He was one of the pioneers who tried to experiment. He wasn't always nasal.

@Xentradi97 If CYP didn't mix nasal sound in "Dora wayo Busan hang ae", it would have sounded dull. What makes CYP so special is that he sings with intensity of color and rich emotion. He is not about technique. That's why the listeners are so moved.

@steakopera CYP had a long career. Listen to his songs before that. He first learned how to sing properly without any nasal or anything. He even learned Pansori to open up his voice. He didn't try on the nasal technique till much later. What these judges are critiquing on is bad habits of up and coming artist whose voice aren't grounded in solid foundation yet. They do not know how to voice their feeling to move people but just imitate techniques.

It's an extreme bad habit (and lot of Korean young singers and professional singers do it unfortunately) focus on techniques. This kid's true voice color and talent was buried because he tried so hard to imitate his idol Kim Kyung Ho. The judges are telling him not to do that and find his own voice. They are right 100%

Pop singing in Korea or regardless where it could be, whether it's nasal or not nasal...... if the singer has the ability to deliver the quality to the audience to feel delightful or soothing or what not..........that is what pop is all about. John Lennon had a nasal sound from when he made first recording until his death and people loved him. This kid has a foundation and potential to be better than the lady judge. @steakopera Suit yourself. All the examples of nasal voice you've mentioned are established legends who have been tested throughout a long career and forged their own style. This kid is just starting and YES he's imitating Kim Kyung-Ho without having his own distinctive color or style yet or knowing how to move the audience. One can sing very well and become a good imitators or be a good singer. Imitators sing in lounges. Real singers sing on stages. That's the difference.

Other pretty girl is not known for singing but dance music and very creative though. I love her. She is so adorable. Other lady judge, I just listen to her rendition of "I have a lover", and she doesn't have much appeal on her voice. She sounds ordinary without special or unique talent. No wonder I don't remember her voice.

@steakopera Kim Tae Won is also a very respected musician and knows when and how to recognize a good voice. He led rock group Buwhal and was the front man to pick all the singers that came and went. He does have distinct understanding in music different from others. I don't have any issue with KTW or really any judges in particular. Those two judges are artists who's been doing what they've been doing for all their life and extremely well respected for their work and accomplishments. They are pros with life time of experience that you and I don't have. And classical singing is very different than pop or Jazz. I don't think you know who these people are really.
