ne one remember the black moon jimi did but the tape was over written by some one. does ne one remember jimi rambling on for 20min. its called closer to the truth sum one 1 removed it thought :( that was also on the black moon book
JH performed a paid gig before 1970 in Berkeley - I was there.
The anthem not done then. The walk thru and banks of speakers ( and blowing them out) was done.
In 2010 , Encinitas Calif. I spent an hour with Dick Dale ( Surf music originator along with Paul Johnson b4 Beach Boys) he-articulately disclosed how he resurrected JH off the low end of Sunset Strip junk bars in the early 60's. DD recognized some raw talent and taught JH some more and performing attributes. The rest is History.
@4113randy Taking drugs doesn't make you instantly a bad person, it makes you a person who made bad decision in life. No matter what you say Jimi Hendrix was a legend and his name and music will live forever... Jimi Hendrix died from drowning to red wine and many other things, there was no drugs involved that much, research more.
Love the Wes Montgomery style octaves. This was a wonderful intrumental. I was pissed off with the lousy camera work & edting on the Woodstock version. I just wanted to see Jimi, especially his hands. What do we get ?
Camera work as if filmed by chimps then a cut to all the crap on the ground. Jimi was surrounded by fucking morons.
@SaypheZonE Jimi was surrounded by clueless non musical dickheads out for their own image or how much money they could make out of him. There were a few exceptions such as Eddie Kramer the producer of Electric Lady Land.
talking about being gracious...Jimi was the most gracious person I have ever met but that is another story>>>Well the Allen twins were also known as the Ghetto Fighters and were friends of Jimi and Fay (Fayne) before Jimi was famous....I knew them as Arthur and Albert but they now have muslim names. Buddy Miles knew Jimi way back as well when he was with Wilson Pickett and Jimi was with the Isley's...which is of course where Ernie first met Jimi. As for Billy....well he is such a gentleman
@jumasultanedwards Im a bit awestruck you've left a message on here. It must have been an incredible experience to know Jimi Hendrix and play with him. I wish we could hear more of your work on the Woodstock performance as they edited the sound. I hope you carried on with your music and are still playing and recording.
I did not have much contact with Mr Jefferies but he always had dark glasses and a camel hair coat on and was almost like a mafia guy in his persona. Jimi had a love hate thing with Michael......and Michael definitely pressured Jimi to tour too much to generate a lot of revenue that disappeared via the Bahamas and the infamous 'Yameta' connection
I was due to be on this tour, but Jimi's manager Michael jefferies wanted to go back to the experience. When we played at woodstock michael was furious that jimi said it was gypsy suns and rainbows and he wanted all the other guys other than Jimi and Mitch placed out of sight to the back of the stage... Peace, Love and understanding JUMA
@jumasultanedwards What was Michael Jefferies like? I have heard quite a lot about him, never seen any actual footage or audio of him, but I have heard he was not a good person for Jimi to have had in his life and that he stole most of Jimi's money.
@jumasultanedwards You were gracious enough to share your insights re. JMH for a project of mine circa 1995, which went to galley proofs but was snarled in issues with publisher and estate. Your analysis, that of the Allen twins, Buddy Miles, E. Isley, Bill Cox, et al. is essential for constructing a more complete and contextualized portrait of JMH, especially re. his ethnic/cultural rootedness in African/black American national culture (amongst an array of influences). U R highly respected!
Does ANYONE know why he named this song Villanova Junction ? I had once heard it was a reference made to Vietnam War time and a location over there. Been waiting 40 years for this answer. If you can tell me please email me: texasmusic@ymail.com
There is a version of this song that used to be on youtube. It was removed. I can only imagine his family had it removed as they wish to release it in the future. I am aware there is a lot of stuff he has recorded which won't be released for a long time. Family making cash. Anyways ... the youtube posting was "Villanova junction rare studio recording" anyone know what i may be on about?
@pbstratocaster I believe that's a common misconception because the only time I can remember him tying these lyrics together was at the Isle of Wight. To me, Midnight Lightning is a different song all together. It was common for him to blend the "keep on grooving" theme to many different titles at the time.
@VoodooKush Excactly. "Calling a long distance - on a public saxophone" is used on the original album-opening song ( vinyl ) from Isle of Wight. THIS (midnight lightning) track/song however, is NOT on the dvd concertfilm (Blue wild angel), from IOW. And thats a shame, coz many people dont ever get their hands on the vinyl album. Why this particular track is extrated from the film is to me a puzzle.
There is no more footage. We're lucky there is any at all. The guys who filmed the show were off their heads on drugs. They messed the whole thing up. They couldnt focus the cameras. Hear My Train A Comin is 12 min long but the camera guys only got 4 mins of it.

@pobinr yea its amazing how many videos don't show his hands. They would rather show Noel Redding jamming on bass.

You'll find a slowed-down version of this on the "L.A. Forum" Bootleg double album.
It's fucking harrowing! A total room-stopper

Anyone got an idea what Jimi actually meant with that title?
I've got not a even trace of an idea...
Thanks for your thoughts!
smartcorner 1 year ago
@smartcorner My take is that it was a girl from the villa nova college,an old flame,a brief encounter,...call it what you will.
PBGSURFER65 10 months ago
@smartcorner It's quite possible that Jimi never gave it this title and that it was added by someone after his death.

Love Jimi to the end and beyond into the next world. :)
I have read that the entire performance at Berkeley was filmed.
