@portfolioclub I just dont think it's right to give kids a superiority complex at such a young age. People can exhibit intelligence in a variety of different ways. I agree that some children might be ahead of the curb on an academic level, but to put them in a "Gifted" class to me reeks of pretentiousness and elitism. If the name was changed (e.g. "alternative" education) I don't think it would be as bad.
Being gifted is mostly relevant up to teenage years. After that, you will have normal intelligence like anybody else in the world. It's not something permanent. I know someone who did extremely until until about age 20 then went back to regular intelligence. What I mean by "Regular" Intelligence is the fact that they go a normal pace at learning, thinking etc etc. Being gifted isn't something that's permanent.
@ElementalMonster54 u mean that a kid that learn 3 languages before 10, and than 2 more before 17 will not be able to learn anymore after that person is over 18(and I mean in less than 6 months), or have an IQ of 165 at the age of 22 by being tested in a foreign language? U must be confused, gifted person will always be gifted even if that gifted person will stop using his/her skills. Gifted that always learned skills on his/her own will always be able to do it, ALWAYS.
@LexieDeaves I was a gifted child up to age 3. I knew how to count up to 100, read very well, knew how to calculate hard mathematical equations. But until then at the age of 7, everything went DOWN HILL and i mean DOWN HILL which then i was diagnosed with ADD. By this time, I have an IQ of 95, before it was well in the 100's. Then my psychologist told me that this cycle of being "gifted" isn't always permanent and can transition to other problems later in life.
@ElementalMonster54 In my country we dont have ADD and I've read a lot about it and have to say, still working on figuring out why people made those conclusions. Your psychologist were not educated right about gifted people, 95 is an IQ of a normal person, and I know many people that have GPA of 3.0-4.0 and IQ of 90-110 Also IQ's are not accurate,I did research and found out that some people get IQ test score of 120 when in real life it can range from 90-110 :) You were a smart kid I gotta say,
@ElementalMonster54 :) and thx to u for not criticizing my reply, also for over looking my mistakes; I tend to forget to check. Moreover a lot of psychologist are wrong but because most of them are not educated right about gifted and talented, we can't really be mad at them since we all make mistakes.
@ElementalMonster54 but not only gifted people are smart. Gifted isnt someone who knows everything. You've learned simple things in early life, and you could be gifted and it will never change but at IQ of 115-125 it is less noticeable in adult hood because its not just about learning. People can't lose IQ points, its not true, you can't just become stupid from getting older. If you learn skill you will always know it and you will always be able to learn new skills, even when ur 90 :) Good Luck
@ElementalMonster54 Absolutely, Lexie. It's called asynchonistic brain development. That means an imbalance. It can be stressful, which is why we are addressing it in our schools. It is a brain chemistry issue. It is not a "better than" issue. Hugs! (btw....everyone is gifted in certain ways...which is why we have different programs....like athletics for example)
I hope all gifted children feel inconvenience in their lives. Who has the right to claim one kid is better than another. Separating kids like this is segragation and Black people hated it and so do normal kids. I hope gifted children get shipped to Africa so they can be "Gifted" (Autistic) elsewhere.
@djkidtich umm most of the gifted children feel inconvenience in their lives because they are not understood by a lot of people! Learn about gifted people before saying stuff like that. And why Africa, can u even make sense?
a gifted person tends to have increased motivation, unusual interests, good communication skills, good problem-solving abilities, an excellent memory, be curious, quickly grasps new concepts, good reasoning skills, be very creative, have a sense of humor, very strong responses to stimuli in five areas: emotional, intellectual, sensory, psycho-motor, and imagination, and have a strong sense of their own difference and failures plus other emotions similar to these
@lXxrawrxXl Gifted kids process information faster. They aren't smarter, they aren't any better than anyone else. Most people call me a nerd because I can answer questions quickly and I really hate it. Gifted kids also have incresed chances of Sensory Processing Disorder (which I also have) and they are extremely sensetive and dramatic because they can 'feel' what the other person is feeling.
Love listening to the kids talk about their own intelligences.

@LexieDeaves Thank's for the very well thought out response. I'm also pretty sure my psychologist was wrong and she probably did misdiagnose me.
