  • "Also, do not wear sandals while you're doing this..." I didn't need that tip... I'm a man. I don't wear sandals.

  • Thanks you rock...I like your down to earth teaching style...it helps folks like me who resist

  • great video i realy enjoy it

  • Where can you find a curved awl like that? Checked your site but it wasn't on there, nor have I been able to find any anywhere else.

  • Hi, To help out some of your viewers when it comes to sharpening an awl, they might paint the awl with a permanent marker. Then as they sharpen it, it's easy to see where they are sharpening, and where they aren't. Works good when sharpening a knife also. Just paint along the edge with a marker, and you can easily see where the stone is touching the metal.

  • Safety tips were great, it seems like total common sense, but really, it's only common till you draw blood 20 times and have the sense to think about it. Great little series, keep 'em coming!

  • Super safety tips Thanks !

  • Awl $ saving tips.... Take a 2" piece of round dowel (or a nice rounded section of a bed post or similar... a scrap one!) drill a small hole in it, drip epoxy in hole and tap in from the base a small finishing nail of about 2". Allow to set up.

File tip up nail sharp, and store in a cork to protect from tip.

    EASY!

  • Re the safety... I thought ahead and bought some of those silly metal finger tip things when I saw them at the 99¢ Store!!

  • if you put the needle through your finger, could you sew it back up using the methods your have shown with leather? :)

  • great thanx for the advice.

  • thanx for the great tips, i really enjoyed it. i have trouble trying to figure out how to property hold a straight awl at the right position...do you have a video of that.

  • Hi, don't rock with it, just poke it through straight. It just takes a steady hand and a little practice.

  • We are glad that you were able to get something from this video. We are hoping that people can use these videos to learn something and start doing projects on their own.

  • Thanks for the safety tips, helps me alot ;-)
