How could this song be not on the official OST from Pretty in Pink? It's wonderful. @DaisyDarling: I have seen this movie just two days ago for the first time. I'm on a John Hughes trip since I saw Dogma (not the first time, but more looking for small details). I'm now 27 years old and THAT'S how teen romance movies should be. Unfortunately the last 10 mins ruined it. It would be an 8/10 but with this ending only 6/10. It's like they had no more time. Breakfast Club didn't make this mistake.
It's hard to listen to for me because of the part when this plays in "Pretty In Pink"...I know that sounds pretty lame but i've loved that film for years and its always made me feel so sad when i hear this. When she's all humiliated and furious and heartbroken...Amazing piece of music.
@Goatmon Thank you so much for mentioning Mark Osbourne's film here! I too have learned about this song through his film, years ago. Bought the Low-Life album after that just for this song. I couldn't remember the name of the filmmaker nor the title of the film though, and I have been looking for it for a long time. Haven't seen it since 2003 or something. Thanks man!
Discovered this from watching the short claymation film "MORE," which I absolutely reccomend to anyone who wants to see something spectacular on YouTube. Wanted to hear the whole version of the song that provided the backdrop for the film...and I must say, I wasn't disappointed. This is music at its finest.
The word "Elegia" ("ελεγεία") is Greek and it means a short lyric melancholic poem with mourning content.Ιt used to be recited ans accompanied by a musical instrument called "lumen".
Some of New order's finest work is on this album, this song features on a episode of CSI where Grissom is piecing together evidence from a murder and it just fits beautifully, Outstanding track.
i know this song three years ago, and it always makes me feel weird, cool, and strange emotions, imagine stuff i´ve never seen and fall into deepest relaxing state, when i listen to it... one of my fav. sons :D
This music reminds us all of who New Order originally was, and where they came from. It has the same mood as a Joy Division song, perhaps more than any other New Order tracks. At any time I'm expecting to hear the voice of Ian Curtis telling his intimate despair to the world. Bernard Sumner was also the music director of Joy Division and only him knew how to resuscitate the inner soul to its perfection. Legends never die.
Played this song once to one of my evening school classmates when I gave him a lift home. He commented that it was a dumm sunday school song (remember this, 'Neil'?) Needless to say he never got a ride again.
Silly question but can anyone tell me what type of electric guitar and guitar effect New Order use, it sounds slightly detuned or is that the effect? Thank you.
MIRO1AS, try tangerine dream's ricochet. If you liked Elegia then you will definitely like ricochet :-)

I love this song, but whats so hard about putting it in one video so I don't have that flow-breaking gap in the middle? I've seen 30 minute videos on you tube, and that's with actual video.
For me it's the complete opposite. For me, I feel the melancholy, numbness and all that is wrong with this world. Great tune though, I agree. Simple, yet effective.
You know, I hear this song, and you know that image comes to me? Picture the end of a movie: a couple waltzing, sadly but lovingly, in the midst of nuclear fallout. They look into each-other's eyes as the radioactive ash falls upon them, burning the life out of them, knowing that their world is coming to an end, but also that their love will be eternal.
it actually reminds me of this cool short just go to my favporites and click cool animation with the brown guy in it. It a real good thought provoker.
KLillz, you are right, Joy Division were amazing but i still prefer the early New Order. It's like the beginning of 'Dance Music' for me. A decade ahead of it's time and still easy to groove to today
I also saw it on CSI this afternoon so I had to look it up here because they cut it off when it was getting good, but my memory imprint took me right back to Pretty in Pink, poor Duckie.
Ah me too Pretty in Pink !!! although it was so briefly played in the film but so captured the moment, yeah poor Duckie, Poor Andie too at this point, takes me back soooo many years ago...
I would say that Power, Corruption and Lies was New Order's best album, but their very early stuff was also brilliant. Their music was revolutionary and way ahead of its time. Try their early stuff, you won't be disappointed :)
I first heard this on an episode of CSI. Doesn't anyone else think that some inspiration of this had to be from Ennio Morricone's work in Once Upon A Time in the West?
gotta be about 10 years ago on sci-fi channel a show called exposure had short films and i saw "More" i was so awe-struck when i saw this masterpiece. It just makes me feel like im drifting away into the darkness to the unknown. very erie feeling but oddly reassuring. totally mind blowing.
Definitely awesome! The song and the tone of the animated short fit together quite well. Somber, solemn, and somewhat disheartening similar to the Moonlight Sonata.
Why is this song released as only 4:55 seconds? Thats the version I got from iTunes... I had no idea that there was a longer one. Where can I buy the longer one?
my gosh...this is such a great song, i find myself starting it over from the beginning after 2 minutes into the song just to hear it again, i forget it is 17 minutes long.....its so powerful...., imagine knowing you made such a masterpiece. it really is a lovely lovely song! and its from one of my favorite 80s movies pretty in pink... =]
This is one of the most genius and greatest song ever!! I just can´t stop loving it!! I´ve listen to it everytime I´m feeling down, and it helps. This is a true onor to Ian Curtis and his life from his old band members in New Order.
I wouldn't say the devil. These sounds are genuine, not buttered up for the mass-market, but ironically it was played at a pivotal moment in the film Pretty in Pink.
I'm not huge into the band... But I really like this song... Do they have any other tracks like this? Or are they all like that "You Spin Me Round" new wave upbeat sound?
"Avalanche", the last track on "Republic", is a lot like this. Also, New Order's first two albums ("Movement" and "Power, Corruption and Lies") have more of a depressing sound.
If you think New Order is a "You Spin Me Round" type of band, you haven't gone deep enough into the band. Sure they seem like that at first but even their upbeat new wave songs are different than others. Take "True Faith" for example. Upbeat music but listen carefully, it's rather sad.
I generally am not a "You Spin Me Round" type either but New Order is so NOT like other bands.
I had this song on tape years ago and think I have still got it. If my memory serves me right this was released on casette and the release was simply called FACT 150C
A non-corrupted version does exist out there on the internet, as that is where I got it from originally. However, the measures I went through to get it were extreme. As far as I know, the only uncorrupted version readily available on the internet is the one I have been giving people.
I have been looking for this song for years since i saw the short film MORE - Happy Products.
Thank you!

Very sad, but I find "Atmosphere" to be sadder.

Movement is fantastic.

If you think New Order is a "You Spin Me Round" type of band, you haven't gone deep enough into the band. Sure they seem like that at first but even their upbeat new wave songs are different than others. Take "True Faith" for example. Upbeat music but listen carefully, it's rather sad.
I generally am not a "You Spin Me Round" type either but New Order is so NOT like other bands.

damn its corrupt :@

A non-corrupted version does exist out there on the internet, as that is where I got it from originally. However, the measures I went through to get it were extreme. As far as I know, the only uncorrupted version readily available on the internet is the one I have been giving people.
