This is why this plane should be the one for European forces to buy instead of the too small-too expensive-too late A400M! Dover did not get them until later. Charleston AFB got them first, then McChord, Then Travis, Then Dover Then McGuire comes in Last since they had the best C-141's in the fleet. I have some great up close and personal Pictures of when there were only 10 C-17's in the entire World. Back in 1999.

What is the point of reporting on the arrival of these planes to KDOV when 80% of the footage used is stock... the closest mountains to Dover AFB are approximately 450 miles away, you see many vehicles being offloaded from the recently arrived planes (which would not occur at this base in particular), and I assure you Delaware does not have palm trees.

@KrosWyred When I shot this, I was restricted as to where I could go and what I could shoot. The plane was empty when it arrived so there was nothing to off load. The Air Force and the manufacturer provided me with the extra footage. It would be a little boring to hear these guys talk about this plane's capabilities and just have a shot of it sitting on the tarmac. I see you don't have any videos posted. I've been producing video professionally 30 years.

c-17 is nic, but notice the "if it had to" bit about landing on dirt strips. If the c-5 is the cadillac of the cargos, and the c-17 is the corvette, then the c-130 is the harley. It can go into the dirt strips on a whim, you can fill in holes in the flight-line with rocks and theres no problem. It holds enough, still fast (j-model) and provides a decently comfortable flight as far as military flights go. For my money, 130 is where its at.

Dover AFB use to be the base of all bases and it's practically shut down due in part to the C-5's being reassigned. The C-17 Globemaster III takes the slot of light cargo aircraft while the C-5 is still the heavy cargo lifter. The C-130 mentioned is being upgraded in California and still flys today where if it were compared to Navy vessels, most are on the bottom of the ocean. So be very glad that you still have a job.

LOL, it's strange to see a pilot comparing a C-17 with a Corvette! Maybe compared to a C-5, but I doubt the C-17 has much on an F-15! Now THAT is a Corvette. Does the C-17 have thrust reversers? It seems like it must, to land on short strips like that. Although I wouldn't try it on that dusty-ass dirt strip, not unless you want to ruin the engines. I notice that he doesn't say whether it can land on a strip that short LOADED. And he doesn't say it can TAKE OFF again, either. LOL.

They also use these for Med-Evac. I was Med-Evacced from Iraq and flew on one of these to Germany. They aren't really to bad. A lot better ride than the C-130 >.>
