  • Excellent video. I love the twist he used "graham cracker crust"....One of the many pleasures of being a chef or great cook. : ) I've always made mine with the traditional buttery crust...but I'd love to try this. Excellent job!!!!

  • I was born and raised on sweet potatoes and more importantly sweet potato pie, so I always knew there was a difference between yams and sweet potatoes.

    BTW Real sweet potato pie is made with reg. pie crust.

  • Oh no! You wrapped them in aluminum foil? You NEVER do that! The natural sugars don't carmelize! You cook them naked skin on, the skin will protect the meat of the sweet pot and the result will be much sweeter and you won't have to use so much sugar.

  • I wonder how many pieces of egg shell did each of his guest get to crunch on! Any good cook, and he's a chef (?) would know not to crack eggs on the inside of bowl! Actually , each eggs should have been broken separately in another bowl, just to make sure they were good before adding them to the sweet potatoes!

  • @puddingpan1 Cracking them on a flat surface also prevents egg shells in your food.

  • ...maybe I just think this because I can't stand the smell of lavender, but sweet potatoes taste NOTHING like lavender. Blegh.

    Also, the difference between Sweet Potatoes and Yams is largely arbitrary. Until fairly recently, "yam" was an alternative term for sweet potatoes, because "potato" had a stigma to it (it was a poor person's food, and they're kinda ugly).

    Then we noticed that there were genetically different strains, and re-titled one as the yam and the other as the sweet potato.

  • I tried the graham cracker crust, and really enjoyed it ! I even liked using brown sugar better. Though I use sweet and condensed milk when I make my sweet potato pies. Very tasty !!!

  • In a way I feel that a graham cracker crust suits sweet potato pie better than a traditional pie crust would. Maybe it's because I associate graham crackers with s'mores, hence marshmallows, and since sweet potato casserole is traditionally prepared with marshmallows, it has a general fondness for s'mores. I'm not about to add chocolate to a sweet potato pie, though :)

  • @v0zbox Real sweet potato pie aren't made with marshmallows, but they are made with traditional pie crust.
