if this piece of crap can be uploaded to YouTube, why not the classic (and arguably more faithful) 1968 version starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey? or the 1936 film version starring Leslie Howard, Norma Shearer, Edna Olivier, Jon Barrymore and Basil Rathbone? I had to see this sorry excuse for a film in school, and hated every minute of it. Juliet blowing her brains out with a gun? Romeo on Ecstasy? Mercutio in drag? Juliet waking up just as Romeo is dying? That and more inconsistencies
@AncientHistoryBuff it's called artistic interpretation. i personally loved that they were able to modernize this classic not by changing the script, but by changing the world around them. the gun that was named longsword...the prince that became the chief/commissioner of police...mercutio, romeo and tybalt fighting on an actual stage? the list is endless and pretty damn clever. i hate seeing ppl redo the same thing over and over again in film. this was truly diff't while the integrity remained.
@realrafafan, i strongly disagree. i think the modernization process of a classic play [or novel] set in ancient times is stupid and disrespectful to the author of the original work. Mercutio dressed in drag at the Capulet's old-accustom'd feast? Juliet blowing her brains out with a gun? The word "Sword" on a gun whilst Benvolio says, "Part, fools; put up your swords..." Romeo on Ecstasy? the balcony scene culminating in a lust-filled kiss in a pool? The list goeth on. All that is...ewww.
@AncientHistoryBuff Get off my page you hater. If you can't stand this film, then why are you constantly responding under each part???? The definition of insanity is repeating an action and expecting a different result you crazy man. I have done Shakespear a service by introducing his work to thousands of new viewers who otherwise who not have even heard of him. Also stop arguing with little girls, it makes you look like a creeper. PS the play was written in 1591, hardly ancient times.
@threetailedfox1 The movie helps alot with the visuals. Try to read a clockwork orange and then watch the movie. The visuals can help tell a story just as easily as the words.

"Why, then, O brawling love! O loving hate!
O any thing, of nothing first create!
O heavy lightness! serious vanity!
Mis-shapen chaos of well-seeming forms!
Feather of lead, bright smoke, cold fire,
sick health!
Still-waking sleep, that is not what it is!
This love feel I, that feel no love in this."
