  • hi hellisforheroes.yes you r right depends on the musicians playing style n attack.for some your set up could b perfect for others buzzy.a tecnician cannot go too low (string vibratons along with the metal frets) !!!

  • @mightymartino I kinda have to agree with this..

  • @mightymartino if you take me serious or not, idk. I'm not saying 8 turns, just twice around makes a difference, just try it both ways and listen, pretty obvious and simple to test. thanks

  • The 10 in radius spec refers to the back of the neck, not the fretboard, scary someone who is a professional at the factory doesn't know that. Also without a couple of wraps around the peg, even though they are locking, you are losing a lot of tone- there is no quesion.

  • @benrms02 what on earth are you talking about? how does the 10" radius refer to the back of the neck? And the whole point of locking tuners is to take away wraps, this DOES NOT kill tone, infact too many wraps aroung the peg will produce more overtones, so the concept of locking tuners used by companies for many many years now is in fact to improve tone. Orkie is one of the best guitar tech's in the world so i find this post a bit LOL.

  • @hellisforheroes alright I was mixed up the fretboard has the 10 radius. If you put 2 turns on a locking tuner it sounds a lot better than no turns. I have tried it both ways several times on a strat.

  • @benrms02 lol i did wonder buddy! it's different on certain guitars, with fender for instance with vintage tuners, 2/3 turns is needed just to lock the string in which saves you loads of tuning issues! (i'm a geek, been a guitar tech for 10 years to some big bands ha, so i can ramble for hours about such things...)

  • @hellisforheroes If interested try putting a couple turns on vs just the half turn you get from tightening, tunes better, and sounds better. As a guitar tech, do you think strats can be set up with as low of an action as prs or shorter scale guitars? Seems like I had to have more neck relief to get a good tone, which translated to a higher action than I liked. I was told at the shop it might just be "that" particular strat I had, which was mexican.

  • @benrms02 it'd be a first time that relief has affected tone, that sort of issue is more down to your playing style! But yes strats can be turned into low action dreams with little relief, being mexican it'll lack the microtilt system so it's best to put a thin shim in the neck to change the angle slightly. I've worked on many strats and turned them into stupidly low action'd guitars without loss in tension

  • hey! is it possible for you to give me the hight that my strings should be in millimeters? im playing a PRS SE CU 24. How much the bass strings should be and off what fret. Thanks :)

  • @deathblade7 it'll depend on your neck relief, but if it's set rightly i'd put the bass side at 1.4mm, and the treble side at 1.28mm, this is measuring from the 17th fret :)

    (i love being a guitar tech/geek)

  • Hii....my first string breaks allot....even new string breaks in a day or two......what can be the problem....!

Is it that i am installing it wrongly or what.....if i were installing it wrongly then other strings should also break...!

    Please help....

  • @mehulpanditful what guitar is it? to me it sounds like you've got a sharp edge over your bridge saddles or along the tuner, do you find it breaking in the same spot? best thing to do is invest in nut lube, and run it over the nut and the saddles, or get a lead pencil, and run it over the same places with the tip, stretch your strings out and see how it behaves after that!

  • @hellisforheroes Thank u for replying. I have an Ibanez RG 350 and the string always breaks either from the nut or behind the nut where the string leaves for the bridge....! One more thing....what should be the distance between the string and the fretboard for a low action....i wish u mentioned it in this video...! - Mehul

  • @mehulpanditful haha, why does everyone think this is me in the video! Definitely pop to your local guitar shop, and get some nut lube, planet wave do it or you can buy Nut Sauce, they all do the same job, but don't use loads! you only need the smallest of amounts on where you're using it!

as for string height, depends on how you like your neck relief as such, but with ibanez's i tend to set the neck at 3/64" + 00.4" (1.2mm) on the bass side, and .006" (.15mm) on the treble at the 17th fret

  • @hellisforheroes Thank you Mr.Hellisforheroes....that was useful to know....Namaste....

  • Hii....my first string breaks allot....even new string breaks in a day or two......what can be the prablem....!

Is it that i am installing it wrongly or what.....if i were installing it wrongly thrn othe strings shoulg also break...!

    Please help....

  • After using my trem my G and low E strings go sharp, i had the guitar setup, the slots widened, i replaced the whole trem system with the mann made one, i put nut sauce on the saddles as well as the slots and they're still going sharp. If i do a small bend on the string it'll return back to pitch.. very confused by this.. is this normal?

  • Thanks for the Video

  • how far should the bridge set screws be from the bridge plate? as seen in 2:20. I'm replacing the bridge in my PRS and don't know how far to set the screws from the plate for the knife edge to work properly

  • what's the tool your using to tighten the tuners / stoptail piece? is it an input jack plate?

  • hey i have a couple of questions.. i have a CU24 and i find my trem arm a little stiff to use, it currently has 4 springs on 9 guage strings.. if i wanna lighten up the arm action 1) is it just a case of removing a spring and adjusting the claw screws? 2) will this modification affect my tuning stability? thanks

  • @opilus 4 springs? no wonder it's a bit stiff lol, i'd definately go for 3, that's what I use on my CU22, how long have you had 4 on it? it should be ok once you've got the claw in the right position, just make sure you stretch your strings out again, or if anything put a new set on there afterwards so the tension adjusts itself appropriately. should be fine :)

  • ok man thanks! and what about the buzz I got on the 6th (bass E) and a little on the 5th string, I have to change the action?

  • 2) When adjusting the truss rod, I m trying to do it as John Ingram says "almost touching the strings" when I place my fingers at the last and the first fret, 1 and 22, but I see that the 21 fret touches the string, it' s ok like this?

  • @panatha1308 yeah that's ok, your supposed to sight between the 7th and 9th frets ideally to determine the neck relief :) just think of the gap being no thicker than a business card

  • NEED YOUR HELP GUYS..

    1) When I play upstroke picking, the tone of the guitar is very weak. When down-stroking, the guitar seems to be function alright. I play with same dynamics from the picking hand, and tried to play with more power when up-stroking but the result was the same. The sound was still weak, not the original as when down-stroking.It happens to all the strings. The guitar is a new Sunburst 22, 57/08 pickups all original.

    thanks for your help.

  • @panatha1308 without hearing what's going on, it sounds more like it's the pickup heights that are affecting your tone, if anything.. head over to the Birds & Moons forum and ask the folk on there :)

  • musicman, sounds it to me.

  • dude, I gotta say it... was that a fart at 1:32 ???

  • @musicman0414 hahaha yes that was well steep man!!!

  • What happen if I don't bring my guitar for a setup?

  • @Aqualeader5 it'll end up playing like absolute rubbish!

  • @hellisforheroes Will it eventual say "F this" and run away

  • hey hellisforheroes, like the way you setup. questions: how typical is it that a new guitar will need a truss rod adjustment? also, regarding seasons, is a truss rod adjustment something that will need to be done on most electric guitars i.e. in the summer & winter. final question what is the best way to keep a guitar, on a guitar stand, or in the case, and upright or on the ground? also what is going on between the wood & the metal truss rod when you make adjustments? is too much adjusting bad?

  • @up2space woo lots of questions, right i'll try to break them down!

-new guitars needing a setup depends on the brand really, PRS for instance very very rarely need a setup from the factory, whereas the likes of epiphone and squier could probably do with one, but most people will buy a guitar brand new and still adjust the truss rod to their own playing preference :)

  • @up2space

-seasons..personally, i set my guitars up every 6/8 weeks, as far as truss rod correction goes, i just check my neck regulary to make sure it's still straight, obviously within the summer you might find the neck moving a bit with the moisture in the air, so again.. definately check and correct in each of the seasons!

  • @up2space

-as for where to leave the guitar, personal preference! there's no danger in leaving the guitar on stands or hanging, infact i've got 9 guitars all hanging on my wall, and another 4 that are on stands on the floor, it's all good! just make sure you don't use cheap stands that might affect the guitar finish

  • @up2space

-over adjustments on a truss rod are baad bad bad. basically, you can quite easily snap the rod which will pretty much ruin the guitar completely if your heavy handed, it's best to only use quarter turns each time you do make an adjustment, obviously, don't be too delicate but at the same time, don't use a fast, heavy hand too. practice makes perfect with this and after a while you'll notice the difference in playing with the right set up!

  • Help me

    i have a classic guitar

    i cant play that thing

    it has a low sound

  • huh? first time i see an arched top prs with bolt-on neck (4:59), anyone knows what model is this?

  • @Gr3nth

    nah it's just a ce22 :)

  • i restrung my prs but when i try to tune it the bridge comes up and just screws up the tuning how do i stop the bridge from coming up?

  • just keep adjusting the springs on the back until you got it right o.o

  • it's all in the spring tension, your strings are pulling too much on the bridge and the bridge/trem springs aren't strong/tight enough.

  • no tripod = fail

  • Very cool clips. Thanks for these. How are the set-ups from the SE SCtrem gtrs?? I'm curious about the 6 trem screws and the "slot" you mentioned and the amount of relief there should be on the SE gtrs.

  • thats such an awesome finish, what model and finish is that?

  • it's a CE22 Maple, finished in emerald green :)

  • now how much would one of these cost me

  • depends where you are, in the UK they cost about £1600ish, if your in america, they're alot cheaper!

  • also, all I can find is this guitar with a quilted top

is that one a quilted top and you just cant tell cause of the camera?

  • Wow

lol i've got a Stratocaster and its tuning part sucks. this is just one turn and the new snair is on

with my strato it takes years lol

  • thats why i play PRS Guitars ;)

  • That's why i wanna have a PRS, i'm looking for it and saving money for it, but i can't find a shop in Belgium where you can buy one. Not even in Piens, pretty famous with us, should i order it? I think you've got some knowledge about this stuff so ^^

  • PRS seem to be the only company these days who always have consistancy in their quality! i used to work in a major guitar shop, having 30/40 prs guitars pass through my hands (was the guitar tech for the store) and each guitar was perfect. they're faultless! they are the only guitar brand i would order from without having to play the guitar before buying it

  • I'm thinking of ordering a c-24. Dude, you know a lot of PRS, thank you!

Piens is a huge guitar, drums and other instruments shop, but i've never seen a PRS in there and believe me, i know it like my pocket.

    Anyway, thanks for the tips

  • ever heard form a company named MUSICMAN?

  • I have the same problem. My new SC245 won't stay in tune. I'll check out the forum as well.

    Thanks!

  • If it's a new guitar, make sure you've stretched out the strings if you've changed them since, sholudn't see any probs with quality control! PRS set the standards in that

  • Great vid mate.

I have a 1 year old PRS CU 24 and it sounds ok when playing open chords but terrible when playing up the neck. It never really stays in tune. I have stretched the strings and makes no difference. Any suggestions or web sites that may be of help.

    Thanks.

  • talk to the guys over at Birds & Moons, it's a PRS Forum of many very well knowledged fans, google it :)

  • Thanks for posting this video. Guitar setup is not as easy as some might think it is. It can be painstaking.

I have a Gretsch guitar with a floating bridge and tremolo. I have never really been able to get this guitar to stay in tune for very long. Any suggestions on how to deal with the floating bridge on these guitars?

    Thanks again.

  • it could be a few things really, firstly.. make sure when your fitting new strings, that you stretch them out repeatedly so they're gonna be more stable, also if the guitar's old, consider replacing the trem springs, if there's still a prob, take it to your local guitar tech for help, or by email me if there's a more serious problem!
