Dandelion is both food and medicine. "Let your medicine be your food and your food be your medicine." - Hippocrates So what do homeowners do? They kill the dandelion with herbicides, poisoning not just the Dandelion, but everything else. Pesticides are not silver bullets. 1 in 3, sorry now it is 1 in 2.7 Americans will have some form of cancer in their lifetimes. Connect the dots.
make a nice sauce with oliveoil, vinegar, mustard and some spices. take the light green dandelion leafs. and a carrot chopped into small pieces. the best salad ever!
@hwiseman1 maybe you have me mixed up with someone else?-sure I can buy them at the grocer-but why when i can get them free and pesticide free in my own back yard- I also discovered Purslane in my garden growing-wow it's a delicious "weed"
@steviemovie Oh, sorry, misread your post to "afraid to eat them due to the chemical poison." I sprayed my weeds so I have to buy them. I don't know how long those poisons remain in the ground. I'd like to get them from the yard, tho.
@hwiseman1 that's ok-I wish I knew the answer to that question too-there is a spray ban in effect here in Toronto but I think some people find a way around it-cause they think not having dandelions is so damn important they will drive to Buffalo to get it-the poison-wow-really amazing where our priorities can be
@steviemovie yeah no doubt, i have done some landscaping here in the usa, and people will pay me to remove fully mature blackberry bushes from their yard.... imagine that eh? people also want you to spray their yard to stop dandelions and other useful herbs and food from growing.
@Azuremaidens The whole reason they are so nutritious is that their root goes very deep into the ground and soaks up nutrients that aren't available in the garbage soil we've left on top.
@acidfriend47 roast the root, crush up and use as coffee subsitute. eat the leaves as a salad green, make tea or a tincture. You can include the flower in the tea, you can also eat that and the stem.
I collect seeds during the year from my dandelions and grow them in containers indoors. My balcony is covered in dandelion sprouts at any given time of the warm months.
What's it do for damaged livers? A friend is struggling to find ANYTHING that might repair his liver so that he doesn't need a transplant. We've read various things, both good and bad, regarding dandelions and liver disease. Thanks.
Because older leaves tend to be more bitter, if you need to, you can place a cardboard box or some kind of board or cover over the dandylion plant for a few days until the leaves beging to turn a pale green. You will find them sweeter and tasty.
You want to use the roots before they flower or they start to get a bitter taste. We eat the whole plant. We've made flower fritters, syrup, coffee, pasta and salads with the dandelion. Can't wait to make the wine this year! It was first brought over by the first settlers as a quick easy growing food source. It's truly a wonderful plant that "roundup" would have you kill off!
its almost hard to take a guy who sounds like a gangster thug serious when he's talking about harvesting wild plants for their health benefits lol cool video though :P
@jw11432 he DOESNT sound like a gangster he Sounds like a person of color, maybe black (gasp oh my God - a black person providing you with health information in the year 2011) you just might die from a contagious disease by letting his voice fall on your ears........ be careful! OH are you saying anyone that is black is a gangster......and someone that sounds white or asian or mexican is not a gangster, but maybe a librarian? How sad is your observation and the thought processes of your mind.
@adancershear1 the fuck is wrong with you? there were no racial connotations to my comment, i was merely remarking on what i heard. ive never heard of any 'gangsta' type, whatever color they are, having an interest in homeopathic healing. you need to fucking relax and stop jumping to conclusions, you ignorant twat.
YOU'RE the ignorant one and you cant do your own inventory and accept the truthful criticism, but like a child downgrade other."ignorant twat" - YOU are the one that made the original comment, not me and opened yourself to TRUTH - check out your own heart...yes this WAS about homeopathic healing..YOU stereotyped this person's rich beautiful voice and decided out of your own IGNORANCE that he sounds like a gangster thug your mind's prejudice wouldn't allow you to take it seriously!
Best weed in my garden. I use them in my soups I make with my pressure cooker. Pressure cooker takes out the bitter flavor, especially if mixed with other foods in a soup. Thanks for sharing.
i got weeds that look like that but its kind of sharp with tiny bristles that looks like thorns but aint that sharp.. its in my front yard is that good?
Peace Lord. My brother threw this vid up, but yeah thats me speaking. Apples are one of the only fruits that are able to be mixed with vegetables. For an indepth explanation read Juice Fasting by Steve Meyerowitz.
@Mindpetals ....except the stalk ! It contains a white liquid and that usually means it's bad for you.
But yes, you can eat everything else of a Dandelion. A very healthy plant. Too bad so few people have knowlegde about which plants you can eat and the nutrients they hold.
@telescopereplicator there are exceptions as of plants with a white liquid, and those exceptions are the milkweed and the dandelion. It is harmless to eat the stem of a dandelion as all parts are edible and it is a exception to plants with a white liquid.
interesting thnx for sharing

I love them too-I am now running out in my own back yard-but am afraid to eat them anywhere else with un managed use of chemical poisons.
steviemovie 7 months ago
@steviemovie Buy them from your grocer. They have them bunched in the fresh greens' section. That way, you avoid the poisons.
