This is the best Jane Eyre adaption to date. They capture the relationship between Jane and Rochester extraordinarily. I swear I never thought it could be done so perfectly until I saw this series.
@Waifine Yes, I LOVED this adaption....and I've seen them all.
But being a huge fan of the novel, I found that this version 'modernized' the tale a little too much...which is not neccessary for a book, which was already way ahead of it's time.
@saske204 Actually I thought that film was exceptionally poor. It may have been relatively faithfull and the settings were perfect, but on the whole i felt that the acting was very low :-(
yep when i read the book it was said that mr.rochester to be an 'ugly man' and jane to be plain....but when i read the book my general assumption was better...i mean it is the way how ppl look at it....even in the movie..they did show her as plain and mr. rochester to be something else than a dashing man..
He is to good looking and she is too pretty! All of the movies are the same! They are good at making Rochester not so handsome but never at making Jane ugly.
So far in this adoptation goes Jane and Rochester have the best chemistry i think. However instead of bringing in such important characters like Ms. Temple or exploring the friendship of Jane and Helen, they make a lot of scenes that were not even in the book such as Jane having an actual conversation with the guests at Thornfield Hall or Jane becoming a teacher of the poor kids after she left Rochester.
No movie or musical is ever going to be like the book! I am dissapointed with all the movies! They are not good at finding a extremely plain and yet sorta ugly Jane. It does not show enough of the chemistry! Also most miss the important details!
i love jane eyre! it is my favourite book as well as my favourite programme! i love this song as well! could someone tell me what this song is called and who it's by please?! thanks!
hehe ya it came out in masterpiece theater thats wher ei saw it, but im sure uve seem it by now hehe, this was a great version i saw some of the 1996 version as well, unfortunately i have never seen either version completely, i always miss parts and have only had the chance to watch each once.
To me Toby's surpassed Colin because the part is so passionate. Darcy is more of a wet blanket. I think Colin's very attractive but Toby has the edge for me and I also think he's a better actor than Colin (only just but enough).
I love that there are loads of Jane Eyre clips on youtube - I can drool at the delicious Toby during my lunch break...
And that scene after she saves him from the fire and he pulls her close... mmmmmmmm
I agree with tracy37 never did I think that Period Sex God title would get taken away from the delectable Colin Firth but Toby is edging ever closer and there's still two episodes to go!
i love love this adaptation. simply marvellous. ^~^

My god this takes me back. I remember this being advertised back in 2006, and I remember anxiously awaiting it as it is one of my 5 favourite books.
This version does the book great justice, I feel that Charlotte Bronte would be proud of it.

What you mean? In the book Jane became a teacher of the poor girls after leaving Mr. Rochester.
mmanja 4 years ago
you're right, my mistake, although they did not include Ms. Temple in this virsion which is a shame.

That's okay :) I didn't know that, I haven't watched the whole series. That really is a shame :|

Having seen the first episode all I can say is Colin Firth has at last got a decent rival in Toby Stephens for Period Sex God title! LOL!
