Its a shame what ATT does to this great phone. They limit everything we can do even 3g/hspa up/down speeds. but all can be fixed easily. Everyone be thankful we have a samsung. they are the easiest to hack, and the hardware is amazing once you install custom rom.
nevermind man i got it to work...thanks for the video..but you should make one walking people through how to do it and everything that is needed so they dont ge confused
you really helped me in rooting my captivate in another video. now I have a little problem. I have installed the leaked version of froyo on my captivate, so it has 2.2 right now. the problem is I couldnt root it since then.
Its cool what you did. But i hate AT&T for doing this to you guys. Rooting your phone just to download an app? That sucks. You dont have to do that on the Vibrant. Its the Captivate that sucks. Its AT&T for doing that. Get a Vibrant and use it on AT&T's network. That is what i would do. Good video though. At leas your really helping people out.
I watched your root vid and it was great. I now haved a rooted captivate. The problem is when trying to remove the restriction when i start typing chom 666 i start typing in the second 6 and it say permission denied. what am I doing wrong?
@bobg3723 thats a possibility, but just be care of what you install. Also at&t blocks certain apps from the market but those apps are on verizon/tmobile/sprint's market. this will allow you to get those programs if you choose.
I always google and get opinions on apps before i install them anyways so just do your research and you will be fine.
@johnnyzappone thanks JZ....I'm new to the Android Marketplace switching from the WinMo Marketplace and I'll deal directly with the vendor directly if possible.
The title is "how to," but there is nothing in this video that actually describes how to side load apps. This is a demonstration that shows that side loading works.
@2L1PS the instructions is below to remove the restriction at&t placed. To sideload your apps you have to adb install file.apk i have another video that covers this. sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for your videos dude... I was about pissed at AT&T after picking up this phone only to find out it was locked down more than iPhone was.
Once I ran this, I can install .apk files straight from dropbox as well. So I can use my PC to look for stuff I want and just throw it into dropbox. A little bit easier to browse that way.
Thanks for your videos. It's much easier to see someone tell you the steps than to just read them. Especially if you're new to android like I am. Thanks to your videos my Captivate is now rooted and the market only restriction is gone. Have you removed the AT&T bloatware from your phone yet? I've been hesitant to do it for fear that I would need to bring the phone in to be looked at and I wouldn't be able to get the apps back on.
@KILLhottytoddy yes i have removed most of those applications. I can do a video for you guys, the app you need to remove them is called titanium backup, there is a free version on the market and it will let you uninstall any att crap. but if you do uninstall be sure to backup the apps prior to uninstalling. Also make sure you uninstall just apps and nothing that the phone requires, you could potentionally render your phone useless, so just be careful.
@KILLhottytoddy yeah i removed them, but i did make backups prior using titanium backup. I also have a complete backup solution just in case i messed up my system files. I put the phone into recovery and it will restore to where i created my backup. I will make a video to cover this as well.
Couldn't u just put the apk files on the SD card and install them thru Astro or Root Xplorer? I don't know how AT&T phones work since I've been on VZW, but that's how i install my apps on my Droid. I'll be getting a Fascinate soon, so these vids have been helping me. But yeah anyways can't u just do it that way, for those who don't know how to do the command lines?
@RonaldRamsayII even when my phone was rooted i got a message saying you cant install non-market apps. At&t has it locked down, verizon lets you do whatever. this method removes that restriction, so after you remove the restriction you are able to install directly on the phone just like verizon. so this is a one time command line and you shouldnt have to use the command line after.
Looking forward to your tutorial on how to get things sideloaded. Rooting was easy enough. All tutorials right now are very un noob friendly when it comes to allowing sideloading. Thanks.
