@iandeadramone1 Blonde dude shoved the skewers in his ears and hallucinated Ichi killing Takeshi and then killing him. In reality he merely fell off the building (we know this because he has no blade marks).

Some people here have said it is implied that Takeshi killed Jiji and Ichi to avenge his father. And in the end I believe Jiji is hanging from that tree...but it doesn't mention anything about Ichi so I don't know if it is safe to assume he was killed by Takeshi. Hope this helps a bit.

Ichi never killed Kakihara, kakihara killed himself he was just imagining if Ichi had killed him, that's why Jijii noticed Kakihara had no cut on his head from Ichi's kick after Kakihara landed on the floor. The HEAD that you saw was Takeshi's (IN KAKIHARA'S MIND), THAT'S WHAT KAKIHARA WAS IMAGINING Ichi did to the kid so he could fight him and have Ichi kill him. @scottlandsman Kakihara is the ultimate masochist, and he wants to die in a painful way and has sought to die in the hands of somebody like Ichi (the ultimate killer).

When Ichi breaks down and starts to sob like a baby, he gets disappointed, and realises he won't die the way he wants, so he stabs those metal things inside his ears.

While he is doing this, he hallucinates in seeing Ichi killing himt he way he wanted.....................

This is why you see the guy at 4:22 pushing his hair back, and you don't see the injury Ichi inflicted in Kakihara's hallucinated state. The film then forwards about 10 years in the future (at 6:12),and you see the bad guy hanging from the tree, and the young boy kicking Ichi to death, becoming the new Ichi!

i think takeshi was hanging on that tree, cause the director didn't give us the final battle. this movie for one had no happy ending. that's why u see the love juice in the beginning of the movie, instead of the end. but it doesn't diminish the film, it was well done. oh, and the nipple cutting scene. there was no cut. there is a sound of cutting and screaming. but no cut. just watch that scene again. so, no nipple was cut in the making of this movie. so relax.

I couldn't stand this movie. Every character was mad in some sort of sense. I liked the idea of the hypnotism but they didn't expand on that at all really. We didn't get to find out any reason why Jijii did everything he did. The plot was all over the place. Just a shitty excuse to make some disgusting death scenes. Its such a GUYS movie. If you think Saw is both boring and disgusting then you will probably agree with me that this movie sucked. Especially when they chop off that girls nipples.

It just seems like it is shocking for shock factor sake. This film was.... Entertaining, but personally for me, it was too over the top..

All of the characters were completely insane and had strong self destructive tendencies, of wanting to kill themselves or hurt themselves in various ways, everybody wanted to kill each other!! Even people in the same gang looked forward to killing each other..... This film left me very confused...

I love how that end scene with Asano sitting in the basement with chains is shot. Fantastic end to a great film.

Character of Jijii is the directors alter ego in the film. It is never said why he wishes the Anjo gang and Kakihara destroyed, his motives are unclear. He serves to manipulate the other characters and create the confrontations that arise.

Once Kakihara is dead, the film is over and both he and the directors purpose is fulfilled. Hence we see him hanged at the end.

I think Miike wanted people to wonder what happened at the end. It's not really clear. The guy hanging at the end is Jiji, some people think the person walking away is Ichi, after discovering about being brainwashed, and killing him. I disagree, I think it was Takeshi, avenging Kaneko. I don't think Ichi actually killed Takeshi, that was all just Kakihara's hallucination. As far as what happened to Ichi, I really don't know. Maybe Takeshi killed him as well.

Nothing is wrong with the ending. The point is that everybody is let down and all of this murder and mayhem and death is for nothing. Kakihara didn't get the amazing death he wanted (well, maybe in his hallucination) and Jiiji didn't get to control everything, since Kakihara killed himself.
