The types are tied to the GEARS in ZG, not the characters. Silver is not Fly type, it's just that the gear he's using is.

I like Silver for having different abilities than Shadow and Sonic. He shouldn't be a speed character just because he's a hedgehog. A flight type fits better since he has levitation abilities. Superspeed in hedgehog characters is overdone in the series anyway. Variety is the spice of life and I actually love how they made Silver unique.

Nope, doesn't work at all. A hedgehog without superspeed is the same as if the introduced a kryptonian in Superman who doesn't get power from the sun. Unique is not always a good thing, it is sometimes but here it isn't.

Do we really need another hedgehog with superspeed? Then we'd have three characters who were exactly the same. Amy is a hedgehog too, so should she be as fast as Sonic? Sonic's speed is a superpower that's unique to him. Even Shadow doesn't run as fast. I don't see why his whole species should get the same power.

I have a theory... in Sonic 2006, his future had lava anywhere so he had to rely on modifying his powers for hovering... and by hovering all the time he gained no superspeed, that's why in Sonic Rivals, with the time alteration, he was now faster and psychic powers were different.
