Do you have any videos that is just like this for the Spot lights, but animated? I want to make 4 different colored lights (red, yellow, blue, green) that are animated.. To insert into Virtual World "game". Im able to get the "spotlights" down, from watching this video, but unsure about the animation part.
@gyrfalcon23 YVW. So, you upload AVI? Not mpeg2? If you do, do you notice a quality difference on YouTube? My final renders are in AVI raw, then I go into PowerDirector and produce a BD 1920x1080 mpeg2. It always looks great in media player on my desktop. But I always get paranoid watching the early release as they are still processing it.
Do you think I should just upload the AVI? They are GIANT files though, and, as you pointed out yesterday, they take a while to get up YTube...
@gyrfalcon23 Yeah, but uploading an AVI takes forever. I was just trying to upload the avi clip of the "Epilepsy Test #2" that I just uploaded as an MPEG2, but I was watching a BlenderGuru at the same time and Firefox crashed. It had been uploading for about 20 mins and was 17% done. Am I really being dumb to upload MPEG2?
I'll try uploading the AVI again to compare and see how it looks...
While I can rig and animate a character, nodes still escape me. Guess I'll have to dedicated a day to it. As a side note, that Lux render turned out pretty damn well. Another thing I'll have to dedicated a day to. SLG is fun, though. Much easier for me to play with than Lux.
Hey, that was a really clear, and easy-to-understand tutorial. I really appreciate that. I watch every BlenderGuru tutorial I can, and he's great, however he uses nodes in everything he does and goes really fast through the nodework. I think this may be the first time I've ever seen anyone really explain nodes carefully. I think I get it.
Thank you again for doing this one! You rock! I have a 1500 page Blender manual, and in the nodes section he keeps calling them Noodles. Mystifying old book.
HaHa! You beat me to upload. I'm just finishing the second part of my render. Oh well. I guess tomorrow I can do one with what i learn in here! At any rate, thanks for the GREAT TUT! :D
@gyrfalcon23 Well sure! Sometimes I think that the people who have taught me the most about Blender, regular Blenderheads who just do a tut about something they thought was cool, don't even realize how valuable that can be.
Blender changes fast. Books aren't very helpful, as they are out-of-date before I read them. But YouTube and the online community is very real-time learning. It's a science now, with people across the planet sharing their knowledge, pushing the envelope. It's exciting!
@gyrfalcon23 Exactly. It isn't like the old days where Newton discovers Calculus, then throws his papers in a trunk for a decade, and then Leibnitz discovers it independently in another country. Science was SLLLLLOOOOOWWWW back then. But now, someone can discover something, post his experiment or results online, and it can be seen an hour later by someone on the other side of the world, who was trying to figure out the same problem. "Standing on the shoulders of giants" with jetpacks on!
@gyrfalcon23 Haha! Supercool. Hey, there was an article on BlenderNation about Facebook. You can send a job in to be rendered on Facebook using all your friends' extra computer cycles. The guy did a demo in the vid, and it took about four minutes to render a vid that would have taken much longer. I don't use facebook, I've always considered a massive timewaster and too nosy, but if it can renderfarm that's a DAMN good use for FB! You should check it out. I'll link the BN article if you want...
@gyrfalcon23 Well, if you think it would be of use. I haven't tried it yet, but I've been producing animation lately "the right way," (as Price puts it), using a folder full of PNG images. And that's usually how they want it at farms. Took me a while to get that through my head.
Tell you what, I'll try out the FB farm and see how it goes. Then I'll let you know if it's worth worrying about. Seems a HUGE waste of computer resources if FB is just gonna be about playing "Angry Birds."

@CrossFireRadio you want to animate the spotlights directly?
gyrfalcon23 2 months ago
@gyrfalcon23
Yes, I want the "spot lights" to move around, (Like you would attach the image to a ceiling of a club or bar, and move around.
Know what I mean?
CrossFireRadio 2 months ago
@CrossFireRadio if you look up a simple animation tutorial, you can use the same techniques to move a spotlight around

Yeah. That really is a sweet forrest render.

@MartianStories i found a list of file formats and codecs, you can use that to make sure your mpeg files are using the h.264 whatever thing

@101blender thanks for the compliment! was the tutorial any help?
gyrfalcon23 7 months ago
@gyrfalcon23 I would say so. Of course, to get the full depth of the compositor, I will need to experiment with much more than was explained here.

Hooray for nodes! (and very helpful explanations!)

@gyrfalcon23 Oh yeah! I was wondering about that one! I think it's great. Ivy gen?
How long did it render?
MartianStories 7 months ago
@MartianStories i love that tool :)
four hours, but i connected all the computers in my house together over wifi to work as a renderfarm, a total of 7 processor cores working together
