People didn't just come from Scotland or the North, the guy in orange vest dancing at 1.10 is Dave Wise from Lambourn, near Newbury! We would leave Newbury at 5pm, go by coach, car, rail to get to Wigan, spend the night dancing and return the next day and go to Southampton to the Centre Soul Club! We didn't realize how lucky we were at the time, and I miss the dancing, the friendships and even the excitement of travelling to Wigan.

I'm from just down the road here, and to think what the local Council Demolished there in '82 just fucking beggars belief. They'll spend God knows how much trying to attract investment, tourism, e.t.c. and they had it all here, already, for free, and demolished it...................and We pay Coucil Tax for them to make decisions like this........fucking retards.

@GBPaddling Yes I understand your sentiments. But you put your finger on the problem: "They" are in control, and for a movement like Wigan Casino to be, with it's old records found in America, no alcohol, non taxed drugs, no commerciallsm, it could not be allowed to exist long term. Like it or not, we and everything in our life makes money for "them", and whilst it was an interesting experiment, all lab rats are killed in the end.

@anotherblonde They didn't get in for nothing you know......there was a charge on the door, and it was used for other events. The other point is, it was a Historic building, if it were your building, the Council would've insisted you put it right, but the Council, being a Law unto themselves always seem to do as they please....and they demolished it, and put a Car Park there....... for Council Employees!! that was free for them, but the public had to pay for on Saturdays.........

Im sorry all harping on about how pure you are.Look at the lads entering the casino,mouths cant chew quickly enough all on amthetamines.I know i used to hitch from hemel and when the wolves coach arrived at knutsford services it was drop a few pills.Drugs were rife at the casino as everywhere northern soul was played.Nothing strange as house music etc had its amthetamine based drugs.

A little info on this vid.. Someof the footage was taken as part of the 'Something Else,' programme that used to run on BBC2. When we were filming Harry Green (manager of casino at the time)actually played Manifesto over and over again. I think it was the only record he could get hold of at the time. I helped set this up and hardly ever paid to get in thereafter. Ma Woods would scowl when Harry let me through.

I did it at all the events and sometimes I went to a club all week aswell as weekends...but had to pace myself.....eventually exhaustion kicked in and me and my mate would sleep for 2 days, I was on a natural high and needed no substance.....and watched my friends die of substance abuse......this scared me and I would never touch it..and I agree that we were minorities

i was there when tv crew came in,poxy lights on for most of night +some of the camera men were wearing pilots flying jackets,probably cool in movie circles but f'in weird to see ,as it was so damn hot,i tried to get in shot[sad git] ,front left by gents bogs/staircase was my spot .440 mile round trip for me+ well worth it,anyone remember going into mr ms early sat nite for a warm up before the niter? ktf p

Some excellent memories from where many friendships were formed that last to this day,and as for that stupid Spencer woman!the words Foxtrot Oscar spring to mind.

I was lucky enough to be on stage myself Paul CJ Fielding,Sandy Holt,and another guy in the dance champs,what a feeling,as Winstanley introduced us I just stood there,the smell the heat the atmosphere,and thought,Thank you god.Ilove you!for it was a truely stunningly wonderful moment in our young and developing lives!

I am sorry to tell that Peggy Spencer bint (speaking at 2:40)that I never grew out of it! I am dancing in this vid, top left at 3:01 - I still have my weekly spin around the floor 30 years later, as do many many people I know! KEEP THE FAITH.
