  • Now that you have the Silver Reed SK280, do you still continue to use your Bond Knitting Machines??? What do you plan on doing with the (3) knitting machines currently under your bed?

  • @HJKelley47

I do still use the Bond occasionally. I was going to sell the machines that are under the bed but I think I'll just hang on to them for now.

  • Hi there. Is this the machine you bought some time ag in 2008? The one that was all yellowed? This one looks in good condition, just wondered if it's the same one, and if so how did you get it looking so good! I left a mint condition 700K in the attic when I moved house 17 years ago. I've now managed to replace eveything via eBay and as well as cleaning the equipment up etc., I've been refreshing my memory with your videos! Thanks!

  • @trulytango

Yes, it's the same machine. I can't remember what I used to clean the plastic, probably just some household cleaner. That machine is now stored under the bed along with the 321 and the 302 as I bought a brand new machine at the beginning of last year. I wonder if I'll ever use them again.

  • @susyranner2009

A brand new machine? Lucky you! What did you get? I hope you continue to upload your videos - there's so much info in them. Such a great set of resources - thanks again!

  • @trulytango

    I got a Silver Reed SK280.

  • Thank you for posting this! I am new to knitting machines and I can't quite figure out the punch cards yet. I am glad you figured out another way.

  • oh wow i didn't even think of that lol. thank you ever so much. i just love the instructions and details you give. I have been through many videos on youtube but when i came across yours by chance i absolutely loved them. this coming from a man who knits lol.

  • Hello there I have a question. when i fair isle knit on a knitting machine do i read the fair isle charts right to left then left to right or do i reverse the fair isle charts so that i go from left to right since the backside of the work faces you? i am totally confused. can you help me? thanks in advance.

  • If you turn the chart upside down and work it from the top to the bottom, the design will come out the right way round.

When you're working through the chart, always start from the same side when you're arranging the needles, no matter which side your carriage is on.

    I hope this helps.

  • Incredible! Your video clarifies so much about knitting with contrast yarns.

  • Susy, thanks again for your excellent video. I tried to do this method with my knitting machine that used two colors, pulling the needles out by hand for a 36-stitch pattern, and it was a nightmare. It would have taken days and days just to do the front of one sweater, plus I lost my place often since the pattern was complex. So I decided that for any pattern bigger than 24 stitches on my punchcard, I would just knit by hand or try to design a new punchcard for 24 stitches.

  • Thank you! Another great video and very helpful. You must be reading my mind - you're always a step or two ahead of me! How do you do that?!

I had been wondering how to use a specific 24-stitch pattern on my 12-stitch punch card machine. Now I know how - thank you so much!! You've opened up another new world of possibilities to me. Thanks, Lela

  • Susy, you are awesome!!! I have learned so much from watching your videos :)

  • trying my way and tell me what happen with you

    my machine singer 740

  • Thanks Mariam, I will definitely try doing it the way you described.

I'll post the results here and also on my blog.

  • I tried it the way you said and it works perfectly - if only I'd known!

    Thanks, Mariam.

  • @susyranner2009 did you try it on the same machine as in the video? I've have the same machine as you and I tried to do it Mariam's way with no success.. I wonder what I'm doing wrong :(

  • @chickenkarma never mind! i took my carriage off the needle bed and looked underneath it, there was a little lever thing that was preventing the needles in D position from being knitted by the second color. It totally works now, Woohoo!!!

  • @chickenkarma

Mariams way is much quicker than mine isn't it?

  • @susyranner2009 faster indeed! haha I was slaving over the machine trying to find a better solution since my machine didn't come with punch cards. I had actually already tried this combo through my trial and error sessions. If I hadn't come on here and seen that it had worked for someone else i would have given up. My carriage was set up all goofy. It must have been from the previous owner. I'm soo happy I can knit fair isle now without falling asleep! :D

  • thanks susy

but there a way easier than this

    russel levers >> ||

    cam lever >> fair isle

    side levers >> O

and push the needles like what you did

set tow yarns like fair isle set up

it take long time for found this way

and you Deserve this help hahahha
