This is terrible! Doesn't sound like the studio version at all!
No, wait. This is awesome because it's not the same thing as what's on any album! If I wanted to hear the studio version, I would've just grabbed my cd. I never get tired of hearing Zeppelin/Page & Plant live because they're always doing something new.
Makes a pleasant change. FFS these guys can't keep churning out the same stuff for 30 years! Can you imagine how dull that would be?(for us and them). If I saw this live I'd be pleasantly surprised by the new angle, long live LZ
Why are people hating on the different riff that Page uses? and saying that he was too doped up to play the original? It still kicks ass.
Jimmy admitted himself his Heroin use if anything made him better at guitar....
And the point of this is that its part of the Unledded era. The songs were meant to be built around a different frame, for instance "Levee Breaks" sounds so much different then the Led Zeppelin version but I think it sounds just as good.
"Hey Jimmy, you ready?"---"Sorry boss, I'm still too high on heroine." --- "Okay Rob, we're gonna do the shitty version. You're gonna do the same thing, but since Jimmy too doped up to use the fret board, he's just gonna use the wah pedal to cover it up. Oh, also we're gonna have a second guitarist who isn't going to be audible at all." --- "Okay."
No one here has an ear for real rock or appreciation for MASTERS OF ROCK respected the world over.. Friggin whiners and illiterate want to be rockers go listen to boy george and F*uck OFF...
I started playing guitar because of them. Recently I wrote and recorded some songs. If you want to hear how Led Zeppelin-inspired music sounds 2011 style click on wisztrock. I think you'll like it.
Michael Lee (RIP) is what made the Unledded special and this so great. No one can replace Bonham, but his sound was so "full" compared to all others who tried. Makes me grit my teeth every time I listen.....
Is this the only video of this warmup thing? I hope they have a bunch of the eventual BluRay release of the 02 gig (right zeppelin.... right?) whenever the hell that comes...
@06mgibson Michael Lee, the drummer on this version of Black Dog, was an Epileptic. He died in a Hotel room, alone, of an Epileptic fit. No drink or drugs were in his body, and he did not choke on any vomit.
RIP Michael Lee (19 November 1969 – 24 November 2008)
@gunggerdin1 That really stinks. He was amazing, I gotta say if Jason hadn't wanted to take part in a LZ reunion, he would have been my choice based on his Page-Plant work.
@gunggerdin1. Michael Lee was a consummate showman --- this performance proves it! His contribution to this visual capture is nothing short of brilliant. I must echo your wish for him to rest in peace. RIP Michael Lee.
@gunggerdin1 Amen. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss. He was FAR more interesting than the rest of the band, at this point. His demise is truly tragic. My prayers go to his family and friends.
I will have to say that time has passed and everything changes, Im sorry to say this but today there are many options for a drummer, the legacy of Bonham has arrived and there can be a Led Zeppelin without him, we are to spirtually to stuck up.
Every live perfomance is different from the last or the next. If I want to hear the same thing over and over again, I listen to the record, tape or CD. The studio versions have their place but live gigs are like hearing it again for the first time. Just sayin'
What the hell was that? Didjeridoos moaning, and replacing the signature riff of the song with an E and a D barre chord? Led Zeppelin are my favorite band of all time, but this...this is lacking and bizarre, I'm sorry. Why these guys would do this to their own song, it's just beyond me. Maybe that's all they have left, I don't know. Or maybe it's just me...I don't enjoy it when a mega-classic song is dumbed down so radically, not even by the original band members.
i think my ears are fine....I saw the real zepp 9 times during the 70's.......this isnt zeppelin.....and respect my opinion cos I totally respect yours.
Yes I may agree... Althought for me is a project that as revival Led Zeppelin - as many others (they sing Zeppelin songs and do not make trash of them). The point is that Led Zeppeling the band is off but we can still feel their presence everywhere and don't need any of the original musicians alive for that!
@Henazzzzz Yea the drummer is awesome...infact I think he did almost a perfect job in replicating Bonham's thunder drumming...but sadly he passed away a few years ago...he died pretty young just like Bonham did ...a sad coincidence...!!!!
Plant's lost a little range, but still pretty nice. I missed the classic riff a little bit during the verse, but overall this is a pretty cool unique version.

Even if JPJ was playing bass, it wouldn't be Zeppelin. Never can replace Bonham, although you can get pretty close. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were the bread of Led Zeppelin, and JPJ was the peanut butter holding everything together. Having Bonham was equivalent to the difference between making a peanut butter sandwich yourself, or eating one your mom made for you as a kid. He just made it perfect, for no apparent reason.
@Valcarion: Sorry, the Four Quarters shows in 1995 were much much better than most they had delivered live in 70s which were often lousy+unconcentrated sets (without doubt due to booze & drugs) - something which Robert Plant even admitted in German "Rolling Stone" magazine recently. And Jason Bonham is an equal rival to his late father, if even not slightly better sometimes. This here + the whole Unledded - Four Quarters - DVD is very dynamic stuff, otherwise i would have almost forgotten them !
@Valcarion there is an apparent reason he was good ,he came from the school of drummers from the 60's that were influenced by Motown most notable Benny Benjamin . Bonham magic came from the way he hit the drum ,tuned his drums the way he used to lag /lead the beat and his producers Andy Johns ,Eddie Kramer etc.
Coverdale /Page version kicked way more ass then this weird version. Drummer was great though. I don;t understand Why the other Guitarist was there. Since when does Page need backup.

@decdetdes2 Men at Work and Goanna do it pretty well. I wont lie, Robert Plant singing live is annoying, and this versionis a real kick in the teeth to the original.
@Utubeisreallyshit. i know so many people are not crazy about this version. it is definitely different. i think i like all the various elements of it: the syncopated rhythm, the didgeridoo (!) and again, the killer drummer --- i will try to find and listen to the other versions you mentioned. thanks, for the information. [btw. happy new year!]
the drummer with the incredible ability and showmanship was Michael Lee --- such fun to watch! he was obviously having the most fun on stage that day/night.
@nathan13is13 I know that. I'm talking about the fact that they should've just let it go when Bonham died. I should've specfied future tense about that. Sorry.
Plant never had a voice for live shows. He blew his out early in his career, & who wouldn't, singing that high with no falsetto? I'm sorry, but this sucks. Son or no son, Bono Sr. is the only drummer for this band.
Erm, how is this a Led Zeppelin reunion?

Sorry.

tears for plant voice...page with no sharpnes....but they are still mine...:)

Plant never had a voice for live shows. He blew his out early in his career, & who wouldn't, singing that high with no falsetto? I'm sorry, but this sucks. Son or no son, Bono Sr. is the only drummer for this band.

I'm so sorry that Robert has lost his wonderful voice... what a pity

This Page and Plant, not the led reunion, ffs I'm so sick of badly researched tagging.
