God, I was there. First visit in NY and the US, and I just walked right into Central Park. Yes, the loose joints, it is all true. Wonderful atmosphere, peace in the air, and a huge crowd, unforgettable. My parents at the time preferred to go on the top of the World Trade Center, I was bit scared of that building. What would happen if this thing came down? But at that time, nobody would have thought that. Peace was in the air, peace. Thanks Paul, thanks Art. I had the time of my life.

Paul didn't write the words. He put an old nursery rhyme to music. But you can't beat Art's gorgeous voice!

He wrote some of the words, building it around the rhyme. The lines with seasons in them "April come she will. May she will stay, June she'll change her tune," etc.,are from the original rhyme, but as far as I know, the lines between them are Simon's. Kind of like how in Scarborough Fair/Canticle, the "canticle" was written by him.

Also, Paul Simon's lines change the meaning of the song, as I believe the original song is actually about a cukoo bird (as someone else already said).
