To obtain the pole, give Taro a gift each day until he reaches 2000 Friend Points. The next morning as you are leaving your house, the old man will have the Fishing Pole for you. The earliest you can get the pole is Spring 10 of your first year.

I don't know if you should make a new file. Only if you want to.

@dtank58 It is possible to get that high in the game in a short amount of time without cheats, you just gotta know what you're doing right off the bat. I'm still trying to get the hang of crops and such, but I've already figured out the heart system, so I got great friendships with my animals and they're giving off S rank products and winning all the festivals in the first year (With the exception of cat....). Denny was also already at red heart by the time Winter started.

@immortalraven17 The church is by throwing a gift in the Goddess Pond a few days, and Alisa and Nathan will move in. There is no library in the game, but if you mean the upgraded mansion of Regis and Sabrina, that's because I unlocked all the miner sub-villagers.

Yes, you can always buy a new a feather. Remember to ship the blue feather. It's part of the shipping list. Once you give it away, you can't buy another.
